--------------------

I hope everyone is gearing up for the New Year. 2012 should be a very interesting year, all around, and we'll see how correct the Mayan Calendar is... Speaking of 2012, please check out my 2012 Pro Wrestling Predictions column which is sure to be an entertaining read.

What doesn't entertain me, however, is how the WWE scapegoats individuals for their own management's shortcomings. Previously, it was reported that Zack Ryder was "demoted" from the 2nd hour because of a dislike for his quarterly ratings. Then, the WWE was beginning to question CM Punk's WWE Title reign and the ratings surrounding it (3.0), despite the previous months with John Cena and Alberto Del Rio as WWE Champions, ratings were still low (3.0). That, and Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena headlined the 2nd worst selling Pay Per View in WWE history, Vengeance 2011.

But now, the crosshairs are on announcer Michael Cole and how his heel play-by-play is burying wrestlers too much. The argument is that certain wrestlers haven't been "as over" as they should be because Michael Cole has thrashed them on commentary. It appears that Daniel Bryan is an example cited, as Cole's heel character has been all over him since last year. I'm sorry, but wasn't one of Daniel Bryan's best promos when he was responding to Michael Cole before the last Tuesday Smackdown? Wasn't it nice to see Bryan taunt Michael Cole after winning the title?

Let's not blame the fact that Daniel Bryan was fired for the WWE after choking someone with a tie during the infamous Nexus attack, and furthermore, it's not Cole's fault that they've buried Bryan on the Smackdown roster. Also consider the fact that Daniel Bryan is the Money in the Bank winner and who exactly has that helped lately in terms of getting over and looking credible? He cashed it in after Big Show fought a Chairs match.

With Cole, how is he different from heel color commentators? Where was this outrage of "burial" on Jesse Ventura, Bobby Heenan, and the heel version of Jerry Lawler during the 1990's? They HAMMERED faces, non-stop, and nobody considered them "burying" talent. In fact, Bobby Heenan would openly mock wrestlers and Jesse Ventura went directly after Hulk Hogan (as did Heenan).

This is just another example of the WWE Management not blaming themselves for the product's downside. AFTER ALL, Vince McMahon is in Michael Cole's headphones... Thus, for some of the absurd things that Cole says, there's a McMahon filter...

So just chill... Till the next episode!
