I agree with Vince McMahon 100% on his decision to disallow CM Punk to appear in a UFC Fighter's corner the night before the Royal Rumble. In fact, I would back Vince McMahon's decision even if it's a permanent one...

Next Saturday night (1/28), UFC presents its second live event on the FOX network from Chicago, Illinois.

Champion CM Punk was scheduled to appear at the show and accompany Chael Sonnen to the octagon for his fight against Mark Munoz. That is - until WWE Chairman Vince McMahon stepped in.

The news of WWE's champion appearing at a major UFC event the night before the Royal Rumble got a lot of people talking and was reportedly an arrangement set up between Punk and Sonnen themselves. Punk confirmed to MMAfighting.com on Friday that Vince squashed the appearance.

CM Punk's fans are going to cry about this one, but at the end of the day, Ultimate Fighting Championship IS a competitor of the WWE. It's currently an alternative Pay Per View to purchase among WWE's fanbase and UFC's growth has hurt the WWE in exposing how staged the WWE's results and fighting is. UFC is real, legitimate fighting. Punk showing up on UFC and being allowed to show up on UFC legitimizes a valid competitor to the wrestling industry.

There could be a chance that UFC and the WWE could work together in the future on cross-promoting, but right now, UFC is a legitimate threat to the WWE's younger audience and also the idea that staged fighting can still exist. WWE's recent decline isn't just because of weak WWE Creative Teams but because the Pro Wrestling Industry is being rejected as a whole.

Vince HAD to do it. He's competing against UFC for teenage and young adult dollars and he knows that with UFC now on FOX, UFC has become a stronger threat to the idea of pro wrestling. If CM Punk complains, that's fine, but realize that Vince McMahon cares more about keeping Punk employed in pro wrestling than Punk will ever realize.

UFC doesn't deserve the free acknowledgement. Good job, Vince!
