The "Excellence in Column Writing" has returned to the little ship that could, MRTITO.com. One thing that makes you appreciate writing on LordsofPain.net (parent site MRTITO.com) is that I'm one of many contributors. Here on MRTITO.com, it's just me... Not easy, folks... Hopefully, I've performed a decent enough job of providing content for you to enjoy. I'm still formulating ideas on what to provide besides a daily wrestling column.

I do have some Royal Rumble themed columns lurking around in my head and a good Top 10 that I've begun to write.

ANYWAY - A few weeks ago, I believe, one of my favorite all time NWA/WCW and WWE managers, Jim Cornette, had this to say:

Jim Cornette to Slam Magazine, December 2011 (transcribed by LoP's Daniel Pena:
"Nobody's qualified to replace McMahon," says Cornette. "Vince is one of a kind, a guy who will never come along again.

"Triple H is a student of the business, but he's still got his own little quirks. He's Vince's son-in-law, and he's being groomed for the spot because he thinks in large part like Vince McMahon in terms of what a star is supposed to look like: a jacked-up bodybuilder. So, some things are not going to change. He's probably going to bring a more youthful approach to it, although [Triple H is] in his early 40s. So, he's not exactly youthful—but Vince is 66.

"So, no: nobody's qualified to replace Vince. [Triple H] might do an okay job. But, personally, I think when General Patton [Vince] passes on, I think they're in trouble. [WWE is] always going to exist because they have a lot of money in the bank and they've grown into such a global company, but I don't think there's going to be any giant ground broken or revolutionary things done after Vince is gone."

For one, I agree with Cornette that Vince McMahon is "one of a kind". There will NEVER been anyone like Vince McMahon. The way he grew the WWF in the 1980's and then brought the WWF back to life in 1997 to see the Corporate power known as the WWE today.

THAT SAID - Vince McMahon, with multiple hats on right now as the CEO, Board Chairman, and the "final say" on everything with the in-ring wrestling product, has had a rough few years with due respect. Ratings, buyrates, and attendance have dropped for the past 2 years and backstage chaos on "what to do" has only made things worse. There has been enough money lost over the past year to warrant some internal criticism of Vince McMahon's handling of things.

The past 2 years have been chaos with Vince testing out new wrestlers and then quickly going back to the ol' John Cena/Randy Orton horse whenever he's scared to elevate someone. 2011 has been crazy with CM Punk naturally rising via fan support but Vince was hellbent on Alberto Del Rio being the champion no matter what. It's said that Vince McMahon's eyes light up whenever he watches Del Rio on the screen.

Cornette sort of takes a few swipes at Triple H, but truth be told, Triple H HAS tried to present new ideas to Vince but they appear to been rejected or mishandled. Triple H was reportedly big on bringing back the Cruiserweight and Tag Team divisions strong within the WWE's midcard. Well, Sin Cara later for the Cruiserweight Division and a slow introduction of Tag Teams... What's happened is that the WWE is half-assing it.

And speaking of Triple H, just look back at his Chief Operating Officer angle. That was supposed to eventually feed into Vince McMahon vs. Triple H. I don't know what's worse... A Vince/Triple H "dick measuring contest" or ditching the COO angle as fast as the WWE did.

Eventually, the great ideas run out, even for Vince McMahon, the greatest promoting mind of all time in wrestling. He's getting older and he has a lot of Grand Children to play with. He could continue to watch over his WWE baby by being the WWE Chairman of the Board, but have some trust in Triple H & Stephanie. Sure, I hammer them often, but for all I know, they have many great ideas that are getting nixed by a very stubborn Vince McMahon. Without strong competition for the moment, Vince has time to try this out.

But in all honesty, Vince isn't retiring. Being backstage at wrestling events and ruling them with iron fists is all that he knows. Good for him, as ageism exists everywhere and someone of an older age having their choice as to "when to go" is a great thing. But the WWE product is suffering.. New ideas are needed to freshen things up.

So just chill... Till the next episode!
