The WWE has a HARD SELL on their hands right now, should they choose to push Big Show vs. Daniel Bryan match-up. It's quite probable, given how the storylines had Big Show encouraging Bryan to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, Bryan then cashing it in after Big Show won the World Title, and then from Big Show's almost tearful response on RAW to Bryan's move. The question is this: does the match-up look credible.

It's a simple matter of physics, to quote a foul mouthed elf from the movie Bad Santa. The World Champion, Daniel Bryan, is listed at 5'10", 210 pounds. Big Show is a legitimate 7'0" height with a reported 485lbs weight. Weight wise, two of Daniel Bryan do not equate the volume of the Big Show and we're looking at more than 1 foot shorter in height. Wingspan wise, Big Show's arm to arm length completely overwhelms Bryan.

Thus, how am I to believe that Daniel Bryan should even be able to compete against the Big Show?

In a real fight, Bryan has no chance. Big Show's power and weight would completely overwhelm Bryan and I don't think Bryan could even hurt the Big Show with blunt force from kicks or punches. That, and Big Show's wingspan stop all attacks. Bryan would have to swing upward in a fight, but he's had to get through Big Show's arms first.

This makes their match-up very difficult for me to even consider. To see a 7'0", 485lbs Big Show having to sell for a guy more than half his size is, well, ridiculous. Mark Henry, in contrast, is actually a credible opponent against the Big Show because Henry's absurd strength allows him to physically harm the Big Show. Daniel Bryan's 5'10", 210 pound frame shouldn't be able to realistically harm the Big Show.

Things have been made worse by the WWE telling you that Bryan needs a gimmick to defeat someone like the Big Show. At the TLC Pay Per View, Daniel Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to pin the Big Show after Mark Henry brutally attacked the Big Show with chairs and a DDT on the chairs. Thus, it's already been set in motion that Daniel Bryan needs special help to beat the Big Show.

Now, the WWE is going to attempt to have Daniel Bryan "overcome the odds" against the Big Show. I expect the same booking that Rey Mysterio has seen when he's chased after larger wrestlers, and ditto for Spike Dudley when he was going after the late Mike Awesome. Except Daniel Bryan IS the champion and there exists an image issue because Big Show, on paper, looks like he should butcher Bryan easily based on weight and height.

WWE better figure something out to make Daniel Bryan look credible against the Big Show. In other words, they need to figure out how a 5'10" 210 pounder could actually harm a 7'0", 485 pounder. They might need to watch some Chris Benoit tapes. I know, BAD example based on the horrible human being he turned out to be, but when Benoit wrestled taller wrestlers. When Benoit had to wrestle someone taller, like Sid Vicious, Kane, or "Iron" Mike Sharpe, he attacked below the waist. Just an endless assault on the knees and legs and was absolutely relentless.

Daniel Bryan would have to take this approach. WORK ON THE LEGS and don't stop. When Big Show is down the ground, kick away. Attacking the legs is the only way to make Bryan look credible against the Big Show.

Everybody wants to push the smaller wrestlers these days, but it's just a fact that the WWE employs and still loves to employ taller, bigger wrestlers. It's up to the WWE Creative Staff and road agents to make the matches believable that Daniel Bryan can be an equal to a 7'0", 485 powerhouse. Good luck.

Just Chill... Till the Next Episode...
