The Monday Night RAW ratings are in and... 3.1. How about that? The non-NFL bump equates to a 0.2 rating bump and I'm sure the WWE will take it... Wait a minute, am I reading the news correctly?

LordsofPain.net - Daniel Pena Reporting
The first Raw SuperShow of 2012 garnered a 3.1 cable rating, with 4,438,000 viewers. Viewership, however, declined during the second hour for the eighth time in nine weeks as the first hour scored a 3.2 before dropping 6% to 3.02 in the second.

Last week's show garnered a 2.93 cable rating, with 4,460,000 million viewers overall.

Wait a second here... 4,460,000 viewers last week but 4,438,000 viewers this week? This was a success, really? Ratings are based on the # of households measured in the sample and what appears to be happening is that fewer households watched TV compared to last week. I guess...

The biggest problem for the WWE is the failing 2nd hour. In the past, the 2nd hour was guaranteed to defeat the 1st hour with viewers. Death, Taxes, and 2nd hour of RAW outrating the 1st. In fact, the reason why the WWE considers the 9:00pm and 10:00pm two separate shows is because the WWE wanted to charge higher prices for the 2nd hour's ratings.

OOPS. I'm very anxious to see the Quarter Hour ratings as I not only want to see how well Chris Jericho's return drew, but also the slapped together 6 Man match to end RAW. WWE's solution to the scapegoating of CM Punk as champion is to feature John Cena as much as they can. This week, Cena started RAW and I suspect he drew in the first quarter hour, but I don't know how a thrown together 6 man match would draw. I think that the Kane "new car smell" is gone, too, after last week's horrible promo.

2nd hour losing viewers is going to put the WWE in a world of hurt because it could force lower ad rates to be charged than before (unless, somewhere along the line, the WWE ended this practice without my knowledge).

Personally, I thought RAW was terrible for the 1st RAW of the year and also heading into Royal Rumble. Just a creative mess that should cause some executive accountability to occur, but it won't.
