Welcome back to the MATCH OF THE WEEK here at MRTITO.com. With the Royal Rumble being this week, what better selection could I go for other than the BEST Royal Rumble match ever? The 1992 Royal Rumble Match.

And this bastard was for the WWF Title! The WWE Title was up for grabs after it was declared "vacant" after two Undertaker vs. Hulk Hogan Pay Per View matches ended in controversy at Survivor Series 1991 (Ric Flair put the chair underneath Hogan's head as he was receiving a Tombstone) and Tuesday in Texas (Hogan used the Undertaker's urn to regain the title while President Jack Tunney awoke to see it). Tunney deemed both title switches to be of controversy and thus the 1992 Royal Rumble was for the WWF Title.

The late 1991 through Wrestlemania 8 roster was LOADED... The WWE just acquired Ric Flair and Sid Eudy ("Vicious" in WCW, "Justice" in WWF) to pad the roster nicely heading into a Rumble match for the WWF Title. In addition to Sid/Flair, we had many all-time greats in the ring with British Bulldog, Ted Dibiase, Shawn Michaels, Kerry Von Erich, Roddy Piper, Jake Roberts, Undertaker, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Sgt. Slaughter, and Hulk Hogan, along with many other great mindcarders of the times (Big Bossman, Tito Santana, etc.). In Ric Flair's DVD, he called it a "literal who's who of pro wrestling" for this match.

During 1991, the WWF was CRAZY HIGH on Sid Eudy and couldn't wait to sink their teeth into him. And their push of him was well done, as the WWE pushed Sid "Justice" as a babyface first but would then turn heel during the Royal Rumble and the aftermath. Vince McMahon wanted Sid vs. Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 8 badly, even though in hindsight, the real money would have been Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan. Want proof? Go ask WCW about their surge in buyrates for Hogan vs. Flair matches during 1994.

Ric Flair was a marathon man in this event, as he was the #3 selection and lasted about an hour and won as the result of the Sid vs. Hogan feud starting. GREAT moment for Ric Flair as his WWF Title victory validated his many great years in NWA/WCW to being equal to any great in the WWF. Instead of getting Hulk Hogan, though, Ric Flair got to enjoy a nice feud with "Macho Man" Randy Savage who was soon named #1 contender after Hogan ditched the #1 contendership to get revenge on Sid after a Saturday Night's Main Event tag match went wrong.

Enjoy the BEST Royal Rumble of ALL time:
