You can call the Florida Republican Primary already... Mitt Romney is projected to win with around 50% of the vote while Newt Gingrich is projected to be around 30%. Rick Santorum looks to be around the low 10's in percent while Ron Paul looks to be in 4th with slightly under 10%.

Regardless, Mitt Romney won this match-up handily and how could he not? He, along with Super PAC's, have outspent Newt Gingrich and his Super PAC's by a 4 to 1 margin. That, and Mitt Romney has been spending money in Florida for a while, assuming it would be his "firewall" in the future. Romney had a leg-up on the competition by running ads early and swaying the absentee ballots. Add to the fact that Florida is becoming more of a moderate voting state, Mitt Romney fits perfectly.

But the Republican Party leaders, however, are scared of Newt winning the nomination and would rather run with a "safe" candidate in Romney against Obama. After all, Newt is on his 3rd marriage and was banging his 3rd potential wife while trying to impeach Bill Clinton. THAT'S the establishment that your Sean Hannitys and Sarah Palins can't describe. The "establishment" are the top Republican donors combined with the Party leadership (Chairman and all of the states leaders who want to get their House and Senate members re-elected). It's perceived that Romney is the best one to at least keep the House and maybe gain the Senate. Newt might have too much downside to him to cause the House to be lost and the Senate to remain blue.

HOWEVER - As I've argued, Barack Obama is going to lampoon Mitt Romney as a Wall Street CEO due to his wealth and firm acquisition work at Bain Capital while pushing through the press how "weird" Mormonism is. In my opinion, Mitt Romney will lose to Barack Obama in 2012 and in some respect, the "establishment" of the Republican Party knows it and is saving their best horses (Christie, Palin, Thume, Daniels, etc.) for 2016 without an incumbent to run against. Newt being a conservative with better upside against Obama in the debates but also a dangerous downside due to personal baggage has the Republican Party leadership scared to take the risk. 2016 is their prize while keeping at least one majority in Congress in the meantime.

If I were Newt, I would stay in and keep swinging! Mitt Romney is FAR from perfect and has many political positions, off-shore accounts, and a mandated Healthcare system to exploit. Mitt Romney is only 2 for 4 so far with, oh I don't know, 46 states to go. Super Tuesday on March 6th with many states are up for elections will be the only time I'd consider getting out if those combined elections are landslides like tonight for Romney.

Otherwise, keep punching that Massachusetts Moderate! Rick Santorum and Ron Paul can start getting aggressive with their campaigns, too.
