WWE Smackdown on MyNetworkTV 5/8/09

The show began with highlights of the fatal four way from last week’s show. Teddy Long introduced Rey Mysterio. Rey cut a promo talking about how he was so close to challenging for the world title again and how Jeff Hardy was the better man. He said he will wait and find challengers for the IC title. Jericho interrupted and talked crap to Teddy Long’s face. Jericho mentioned how he was the face of Smackdown.
Long mentioned he wasn’t going to introduce Jericho and Jericho said it didn’t matter. He said he needed no introduction because his accolades speak for themselves. He criticized Long by calling him a "fly by night, general manager." Jericho said no one never got disqualified in a fatal four way before and called Mysterio a pipsqueak and demanded a title match. Mysterio got hard and told Jericho to shut up. Jericho got in Mysterio’s face and asked him what he said and Mysterio pushed Jericho.
Mysterio told him to shut up again and told him to move on. Jeff Hardy came out and told Jericho if he wanted a title match, he had to beat him, the charismatic number one contender. Hardy went on to call Jericho a hypocrite and a liar. He made an offer and said if Jericho beats him tonight, he would be added to the title match at Judgment Day. Jeff mentioned that was going to expose Jericho for the fraud he was and slapped the taste out of his mouth. Long agreed to the stipulations and Jericho smiled and left.

The announcers hyped the main event for tonight between Jericho and Hardy. R-Truth made his entrance.
1. Mike Knox defeated R-Truth in 2:45. Truth started the match with a couple of punches and hit a spinning axe kick. Knox got the advantage by ramming his knees on Truth’s head. Truth came back with a dropkick, punches and he hit a scissors kick for a near fall. Truth hit a missile dropkick of the top rope for a near fall. Knox hit a big boot and his finisher for the quick win.
McCool and Kim (in a split screen) are coming to the ring for their match next.

2. Michelle McCool (w/Alicia Fox) pinned Gail Kim in 3:12. McCool pulled her G.I. Jane impersonation by doing push-ups. Kim got back in the match with dropkicks to McCool. McCool slid out and used Fox as a shield. McCool threw Kim into the ropes for a near fall. McCool put Kim in a neck submission and Kim countered with a drop toe hold on the bottom rope. Kim got some momentum with a blockbuster off the top rope for a near fall. McCool hit the Faith Breaker for the victory.
Highlights were shown from the Cutting Edge segment last night.

Josh Matthews interviewed Jeff Hardy. He asked Jeff what were his thoughts about the upcoming title match at Judgment Day and Jeff said that Jericho’s nonsense ends tonight. And everyone will be talking about him becoming world champ. Elsewhere, Teddy Long, Ricky Ortiz and Maria were in Long’s office. Edge stormed in Long’s Office and Edge complained about Jericho being involved in the world title match. Long talked about CM Punk almost cashing in. Long then made a rematch between Edge and C.M. Punk for later tonight. John Morrison made his ring entrance.

Charlie Haas made his entrance with Shelton Benjamin.
3. John Morrison defeated Charlie Haas (w/Shelton Benjamin) in 4:38. Haas got the early advantage in the match by working on Morrison. Morrison hit a springboard dropkick for a near fall. Morrison threw Haas and Haas countered by throwing Morrison into the ropes. Haas hit a big boot and a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker for a near fall. Haas put Morrison in a submission but Morrison countered with a drop kick and a clothesline. Morrison hit a running knee and a corkscrew moonsault for the win.
CM Punk is on his way walking to the ring.

The Smack of the Night was shown of Punk getting attacked by Umaga on the end of Smackdown last week.
4. CM Punk defeated Edge via count out in a non title match in 6:27. The match was back and forth for the first minute. Punk hit an arm drag takedown and tossed Edge outside of the ring. Punk hit a suicide dive on Edge and Edge retaliated with a big boot. Edge hit some elbows to Punk for a one count. Edge applied a full Nelson to Punk and Punk got out and attempted the GTS. Edge applied another submission maneuver to Punk’s arms.
Both competitors ran into each other. Edge tried to suplex Punk but Punk countered with a knee lift and a flying clothesline for a near fall. Edge tried to Electric Chair to Punk but Punk countered with a roll up for a near fall. Punk attempted the PTS twice but Edge grabbed the top rope. Edge tried to spear Punk but he missed and flew out of the ring. Edge left the ring and got counted out.
Umaga came in the ring and super kicked Punk. Umaga hit the Samoan Spike to Punk to lay him out.
The show returned with an arm wrestling table was inside of the ring and Cryme Tyme came out. They did their usual bid and talked about the Brooklyn Breakdown last week. The said how Eva and Layla bought the house down. They introduced Layla and she got some decent heat. Eve got some pop but not enough to brag about. The Divas was pretty even at first and Layla complained about her elbow because it was wrapped. They started again and it was even until Layla gave up and Eve won. Layla kicked and gave Eve a nasty neck breaker.
Jimmy Wang Yang and Jesse were talking and Dolph Ziggler talked about him having his match next.

Dolph Ziggler came out and he said that he will rip through the roster and prove that he is a winner. He said to make his point, he issued an open challenge and said he is the premier superstar and they will never forget the name, Dolph Ziggler. The Great Khali came out and got a huge pop from the crowd.
5. The Great Khali beat Dolph Ziggler by DQ in 1:09. Ziggler tried to talk his way out but Khali clotheslines him and chopped the hell out of his chest. Khali missed a kick and Ziggler tried to get some offense in. Ziggler grabbed a chair and he beat the hell out of Khali.
The Raw rebound was shown. The announcers run down the Judgment Day card. Edge comes out for commentary for the main event.

6. Jeff Hardy defeated Chris Jericho in 15:24. Jeff got the fans hyped by clapping and Jericho got the early advantage. Jeff speared Jericho and got some quick offense in. Jeff tried a Swanton, but Jericho got up and tried to walk away. Rey Mysterio walked out and distracted Jericho. Jeff threw Jericho in the security railing and tried to fly on Jericho but he missed. Jeff was still outside of the ring and got back in the ring at the nine count. Jericho got two near falls in before going to break.

The show returned with Jericho working on Jeff. Jericho applied a modified sleeper to Jeff and Jeff countered with a clotheslines. Jeff attempted a Whisper in the Wind but he botched it and Jericho capitalized. Jeff knocked Jericho off and hit a Whisper in the Wind for a near fall. Jeff missed the spinning heel kick and Jericho applied the Walls of Jericho. Edge in the meantime was cheering Jeff because he doesn’t want a triple threat. Jeff grabbed the ropes and hit a face buster suplex.
Jeff attempted a Swanton Bomb but he missed. Jericho hit a Lionsault for a near fall. Jericho tried another Walls of Jericho but was countered with back and forth inside cradles by both competitors. Jericho threw Jeff into Edge at the announcer’s booth and brought him back in the ring for a near fall. Edge distracted Jericho and Jeff went for a schoolboy for a near fall. Jericho tried to use the ropes for leverage but Mysterio told the referee that he used the ropes. Jeff hit a botched Twist of Fate for the victory.
