WWE Monday Night Raw 8/31/09

Announcers: Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole
We start off with Lillian Garcia introducing the Guest Host and it is Dusty Rhodes. He comes to the ring and he has a mic. Dusty says hello to Detroit and he says reminds everyone who he is and that he is tonight’s guest host. Dusty mentions how he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Detroit. He talks about the blue collar nature of Detroit. He says that he is proud of Cody despite the fact that he might get an attitude at times hanging around Randy Orton. He says that there is nothing that a father would not do for his son. He hopes that Cody will see the light and that it can happen tonight. Dusty talks about the I Quit Match at Breaking Point between John Cena and his son. Dusty announces that Randy Orton will be defending the title against Cody Rhodes. Dusty says that he will be in Cody’s corner tonight. There will be a special referee for this match and it will be John Cena.
Randy Orton was hearing voices and they told him to walk out to talk to Dusty. Randy has a mic and he says that it is obvious that Dusty is jealous of him. He is jealous because Cody looks up to him more than he ever looked up to Dusty. Randy says that Dusty trying to cover up his shortcomings as a father by giving him a title match is desperate. Randy says that he doesn’t know if Cody even wants the match.
Dusty says that Cody is hungrier and more athletically gifted than Dusty. Randy wants to know why he should kick Dusty in the skull again.
Cody Rhodes comes out to the ring and he has a mic. Cody says that the man Randy Orton kicked in the head two years ago is his father. Cody says that his legacy in the business runs farther than either him or Randy. Cody hopes that they are friends, but this is a golden opportunity and he will not pass it up. Cody says that he intends to become the youngest WWE Champion in history. Cody says that it isn’t personal, it is strictly business.
Randy wants to make sure he has things figured out. He is facing Dusty’s son with Dusty in Cody’s corner with John Cena as the referee. Randy says that the fix is in and Dusty tells Randy that the fix is definitely in.
We see six Divas in the back and a referee is explaining the battle royal that they are in tonight to get a shot at Mickie James.
We go to commercial.
Match Number One: American Dream Diva Battle Royal featuring Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes, Alicia Fox, and Jillian Hall
Beth goes after Kelly while Jillian battles with Alicia and Gail and Rosa exchange forearms. Beth has Kelly on the ropes but Gail sends Rosa into Beth and Beth is not happy and she eliminates Rosa. Jillian and Alicia kick Kelly but Kelly with forearms. Kelly with a clothesline to Jillian but Alicia with a scissors kick to Kelly. Gail eliminates Alicia while Beth eliminates Kelly. Gail with a drop kick to Beth and then she tries to eliminate Beth but Beth holds on to the ropes and stays on the apron. Gail with forearms as Beth holds on. Gail sends Beth into the ring post and Beth is down. Gail sends Jillian through the ropes but Jillian holds on. Gail returns from the apron. Gail misses a cross body when Jillian moves. Jillian with the handspring back elbow attempt but she lands in Gail’s knees. Jillian and Gail exchange forearms. Jillian has Gail against the ropes but Gail fights to stay in the ring. Gail with a forearm and she tries for a rana but Jillian blocks it and works on Gail’s back. Jillian sends Gail over the top but Gail tries to skin the cat. Jillian bites Gail’s hand but Gail with a head scissors to eliminate Jillian. Beth finally gets back into the match and kicks Gail to the floor to win. Winner: Beth Phoenix
We see footage from last week’s Raw is Money when Mark Henry and Montel Vontavious Porter get their title match at Breaking Point.
Match Number Two: Chris Jericho versus Montel Vontavious Porter
Porter with a waist lock take down but Jericho with a hammer lock. Porter with another waist lock take down but Jericho tries for a front face lock. Jericho with a head butt and hard Irish whip. Jericho with kicks to the head and a slap as well. Jericho with a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Porter and Jericho exchange punches but Porter with the advantage followed by a clothesline and an overhead belly-to-belly throw to Jericho. Jericho blocks the running knee and he tries for the Walls of Jericho but Porter slaps Jericho and sends him into the corner. Porter misses a big boot when Jericho holds on to the ropes but he does not miss a second time and Porter gets a near fall. Porter with a flying clothesline for a near fall. Jericho backs into the corner and Porter misses the running boot. Jericho hits a springboard drop kick and Porter goes to the floor as we go to commercial.
We are back and Jericho with a chin lock but Porter with an Irish whip. Jericho with a boot and then he goes to the turnbuckles but Porter with a punch to the midsection. Jericho with a bulldog and then he misses the Lionsault because he took too much time. Porter with a drop kick to Jericho’s head and it is time for the Ballin’ Elbow and he gets a near fall. Jericho avoids the Playmaker but Porter gets a near fall with an inside cradle counter of the Walls of Jericho. Jericho hits the Codebreaker for the three count. Winner: Chris Jericho
Dusty is in the back looking at the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD and Degeneration X enter the office. Hunter says that Cody and Ted are a disgrace to their father’s legacy. Dusty says that he will make sure that once Cody wins, he will give Hunter or Shawn a title match. Hunter and Shawn fight over who gets the title match. Hunter says that they shouldn’t argue in front of Dusty since he is a Hall of Famer. Time for some awkward silence between the three men. Dusty asks Shawn and Hunter if they want to hang out with him to watch the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD. Dusty pulls out his own DVD to try to shill and Hunter says that they hate shameless plugs. Hunter then shows us the new DX DVD. Shawn asks if they should watch Raw and then they discuss how since Dusty is in charge, he can tells them what to do.
Hornswoggle is walking in the back in cowboy gear and he is going to be in a bullrope match against guess who.

We are back with the Slam of the Week: Chavo’s latest attempt to be embarrassed against Hornswoggle and Evan Bourne making the save for Hornswoggle.
Match Number Three: Hornswoggle versus Chavo Guerrero in a Texas Bullrope Match
The referee has one more thing for Chavo thanks to Dusty and it is a cow head to finish off the rest of the suit or he forfeits. Chavo pulls Hornswoggle to him using the rope but Hornswoggle grabs Chavo’s tail and then he kicks Chavo in the leg. Hornswoggle with a head butt to the udders and then Hornswoggle rides Chavo. Chavo with a big boot and the head comes off. Chavo goes up top but Hornswoggle goes to the floor while Evan Bourne comes out. Hornswoggle pulls Chavo off the turnbuckles and then Hornswoggle puts the head on backwards and it makes Cole chuckle. Hornswoggle ties up Chavo and then Hornswoggle is declared the winner. Winner: Hornswoggle
After the match, Chavo attacks Evan Bourne and then he charges at Hornswoggle but Hornswoggle misses and goes into the ring post. Hornswoggle with a bite and then Bourne with a leg lariat. Hornswoggle goes up top and puts on the head and hits a frog splash.
We see the tale of the tape for the match between Mark Henry and Big Show.
Big Show is walking in the back and we go to commercial.
Match Number Four: Big Show versus Mark Henry
Show and Henry go face to face and then Show pushes Henry away and Henry wants Show to come to him. They lock up and Henry appears to have the advantage and Show is shocked. They lock up again and Henry with the slight advantage. Show wants a test of strength and Henry shows why he is the World’s Strongest Man. Show with head butts but Show feels it more than Henry. Henry with a head butt of his own. Show tries for the Shhh chop but Henry stops Show. Henry with a side head lock and he forces Show to his knee. Show gets to the ropes to force Henry to release the hold. Show with a kick and punch to Henry. Show with a spear and both men are down. Show with a punch to Henry and a front face lock. Show runs Henry back into the turnbuckles. Henry with an elbow and punch to Show. Henry with a splash in the corner. Henry with a body block and Show is down. Henry with a splash for a two count. Henry charges into the corner but he runs into an elbow. Show exposes the top turnbuckle while the referee deals with Henry. Show exposes the turnbuckle and Henry charges into the turnbuckle. The referee calls for the bell, but that doesn’t keep Show from connecting with the knockout punch. Winner: Mark Henry by disqualification
Cody is in his dressing room and Ted asks Cody if he is ready. Cody says that he is going to make an impact tonight. Randy enters and he wants to know if Cody still wants to do it. Randy reminds Cody that he said it is not personal, but it is business.
We go to commercial.
We are back and we see the Finger Poke of Doom from the Hogan/Nash match. Dusty says that he wasn’t in charge and it was Hunter and Shawn’s friend in charge, Big Sexy. Dusty points out that from 1996 through 1998, WCW kicked WWE’s butt. Dusty asks Shawn when he was the champion and it might have been 1996 through 1998. Shawn gets flustered and leaves because he wasn’t there for the Attitude era. Hunter asks Dusty who was responsible for making Mark Mero ‘Johnny B. Badd’ and Dusty says that it was him. Shawn returns and he is still flustered.
Match Number Five: Jack Swagger versus Kofi Kingston versus Carlito versus The Miz for the United States Title
Miz goes to the floor to watch and Kofi with a drop kick to Swagger. Kofi with a forearm and then he leaps into the corner and punches Carlito. Swagger hits Kofi from behind and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Swagger acts like a goof and Carlito sends Swagger to the floor. Miz gets rid of Carlito and then he punches Kofi. Miz with a kick to Kofi. Miz sends Carlito over the top onto Swagger and then Kofi sends Miz to the floor. Kofi with a plancha onto all three of his opponents as we go to commercial.
We are back and Swagger is trying for a single leg crab and he applies it. Miz is waiting outside the ring for something. Miz with a knee lift and neck breaker to Swagger and then he knocks Carlito off the apron. Miz with punches and kicks to Kofi followed by a knee in the corner. Miz with an Irish whip but Carlito with a missile drop kick to a charging Miz. Kofi breaks up the cover. Carlito punches Kofi and Miz. Carlito with an Irish whip to Kofi and then Kofi hits a cross body onto Miz and Carlito for a near fall. Swagger sends Kingston into the turnbuckles and then he does the same to Miz. Swagger with charges into the corner followed by a double jump splash to Carlito. Miz counters the attempt by Swagger. Kofi sends Miz to the floor and then he slams Carlito onto Swagger. Time for the Boom Boom Leg Drop and then he gets a near fall on Swagger. Miz sends Kofi to the floor and then he hits a clothesline on Carlito. Miz with the Stroke after Carlito escapes the Doctor Bomb. Carlito with the backstabber to Miz but Kofi with Trouble in Paradise on Carlito for the three count. Winner: Kofi Kingston
We go to commercial.
Match Number Six: Beth Phoenix versus Mickie James for the Diva’s Title
Mickie with a rollup for a near fall followed by a side head lock but Beth blocks the take down. Beth runs Mickie into the turnbuckles and then she kicks Mickie in the back. Beth with punches and kicks in the corner and the referee admonishes Beth. Beth with a drop kick that sends Mickie into the ring post. Beth with a shoulder breaker for a near fall. Beth with a knee to the shoulder. Beth with a key lock but Mickie with forearms. Mickie with a back kick and a few more kicks. Mickie with punches but Beth with a rake of the eyes. Mickie with forearms and then she hits a drop kick to the knee. Mickie with another drop kick and a clothesline. Beth sends Mickie into the corner. Mickie with a rana and then she goes to the turnbuckles for the Thesz Press but Beth knocks Mickie off the apron. Beth sends Mickie into the ringside barrier and then gets a near fall. Beth with a kick. Mickie with a tornado DDT for the three count. Winner: Mickie James
Back to Dusty and DX in the office. Shawn says that he is doing better and Hunter calls him Psycho Boy. Dusty talks about the great things in WCW. Hunter says that WCW’s greatest moment ever was not on the DVD, The Shockmaster. Hunter talks about it and then there is a voice from behind the wall. We get a dramatic recreation of the Shockmaster and it is Arn Anderson on the mic. We see that it is Arn and he runs away after saying hello to Dusty. We see that the Not So Shockmaster was Santino while Dusty says that it should have worked.
We go to commercial.
Josh Mathews is in the interview area with John Cena. Josh asks John about his role as a guest referee. Cena says that as guest referee, he controls the fate of the WWE Title. Cena points out that he doesn’t like Randy Orton. Cena suggests that we might see Dusty Rhodes watch his son become the youngest champion in WWE history. Cena suggests that it might mean the end of Legacy and Randy Orton’s career. Cena says that if he chooses a side, the story will be ‘John Cena gives Cody Rhodes the WWE Championship’. Cody will have to do it on his own. Cena says that if Orton wins tonight, he will run into a brick wall because Cena says that he will not quit.
We go to Cole and Lawler for some Vintage Pay Per View hype.
We are back and we see that Bob Barker will be hosting next week’s Raw.
Match Number Seven: Randy Orton versus Cody Rhodes with Dusty Rhodes with Guest Referee John Cena for the WWE Title
Before the match, Dusty says that there isn’t anything a father wouldn’t do for their son and he apologizes to Cena. Cody and Orton attack Cena. Since it is one on two, that means Cena is in control. Ted DiBiase comes to the ring and hits Dream Street. Orton, DiBiase, and Rhodes attack Cena.
DX’s music plays and they come to the ring and they go after Orton, Rhodes, and DiBiase. Hunter punches Orton and Cody. Hunter with a Pedigree set up but Dusty hits Hunter with his cowboy boot. Now it is time to attack Shawn Michaels. Rhodes hits CrossRhodes. Legacy and Dusty celebrate in the ring and then Randy hits an RKO on Dusty. Cody doesn’t know what to do since his advisor and mentor attacked his dad. We go to credits.
