WWE nXt Results
August 10th, 2016

On commentary tonight, at Full Sail University, are Tom Phillips and Corey Graves.

Earlier today, Bobby Roode and nXt General Manager William Regal are walking out of Regal’s office and Roode thanks him for the meeting. He seems excited and he’s rubbing his hands with pleasure. He’s up to something. Guess we’ll find out later!

Opening Segment

In the ring to begin the show is a contract signing table, two contracts, two pens, two microphones and GM William Regal. He tells us history will be made when the contract for the nXt Women’s Championship match at Takeover: Brooklyn II is signed.

He invites the challenger and the champion out for this historic event.

Bayley says she’s been fighting for this for 3 and a half years. She’s competed against the best of the best in the women’s division of nXt. She’s always been the underdog…until last year’s Takeover: Brooklyn when she became champion. Takeover: Dallas was a nightmare for her and she wasn’t prepared for how tough Asuka was. Right here, right now, she’s ready to become the first ever two-time nXt Women’s Champion.

Asuka tells her she doesn’t have what it takes but she respects her.

Bayley says she won’t shake her hand. She’d better just sign the contract and leave or she’ll be lying on the mat, just like her last contract signing.

All parties sign and make the championship rematch official for August 20th in Brooklyn.
Asuka puts her hand out again and Bayley quickly hits it and leaves.

Then, she changes her mind and races back into the ring, just for Asuka to hold her title up in Bayley’s face.

One cool point for the attitude and determination Bayley displayed in this contract signing. She’s fired up. Asuka showed her fierceness but also her respect for the former champion. I liked that. We already know Asuka is pretty crazy in the ring but we haven’t been able to see the classy personality she has outside of the ring. I thought the segment did well to show sides of each wrestler that we don’t usually get to see. They’re gonna have an awesome match in Brooklyn.

Coming Up: The Authors of Pain and manager Paul Ellering

Second Segment

Still another theme song for Takeover: Brooklyn II? This one’s called “Relentless” by Of Mice & Men. Maybe each song will connect to a different match?

Tag Team Match: Authors Of Pain w. Paul Ellering vs. Adrian Nailz & Rob Ryzin

Both Authors beat up on Nailz to begin this match, dishing punches and elbow drops.
They kick him into his own teammate, Ryzin, to tag him in. Then it’s a double team Irish whip double splash on Ryzin in the corner. Then, both Authors lift each guy into a powerbomb, run them into each other’s backs while keeping them lifted, and slam them to the mat. Then, it’s a double team finisher (Russian leg sweep/clothesline) combo for the victory. That was swift.

Winners: Authors Of Pain via pinfall in less than 2 minutes

Post-match, the Authors of Pain are about to beat up Nailz some more when TM 61 arrives on the scene to defend. At adjacent turnbuckles, they start dishing some punches but each gets destroyed by the Authors. Ouch. That didn’t work.

One cool point for the destruction created by this powerful tag team. They’re building up a resume of beatdowns that will soon bring them to The Revival. Maybe for the next Takeover after Brooklyn?

Backstage, nXt interviewer Andrea D’Marco asks Shinsuke Nakamura about his match with Samoa Joe at Takeover. He says he’ll find Joe when he wants to…then pretends to go looking for him.

Third Segment

Singles Match: Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Angelo Dawkins

Phillips tells us Cien is undefeated so far in nXt. Graves says sky’s the limit for him.
The bell is ringing and Dawkins is still doing his pre-match ritual, which is fun.
Okay, on the initial tie-up, we have the wrist hold applied by Dawkins. Cien shows off his tumbling and backflipping abilities, as he escapes the hold and attacks Dawkins. Springboard off the top rope, Cien leaps over Dawkins only to get slapped hard. 360 spinning splash in the corner by Dawkins. 1.2…kickout. Dawkins with a short headlock on Cien. Cien gets away, to the ropes, and kicks him in the chest. He jumps up on Dawkins’ shoulders and rolls down for a pinning attempt. No good.

Dawkins goes for another spinning splash. Cien moves out of the way and connects with a second rope springboard dropkick. Running jumping forearm by Cien. Dawkins is down in the corner. Double knees! He motions for Dawkins to get up. Traps the left arm behind Dawkins’ own back and connects with the hammerlock DDT for the victory.

Winner: Andrade “Cien” Almas via pinfall in 2 minutes

Post-match, “GLORIOUS” hits and it’s Bobby Roode, applauding Cien’s efforts. He strides
down to the ring, all dressed up in a suit and no tie.

He congratulates Cien, not on the win though. It was a little minor league but he won and that’s all that matters. Roode’s here to congratulate Cien on making nXt Takeover a little more sophisticated, a little more star-powered. It’s gonna need to be glorious and that’s what Bobby Roode has to offer. It’ll be Roode vs. Cien at Takeover: Brooklyn II.
Roode says it’s his showcase and that August 20th will be glorious. Cien nods and stares down Roode as he leaves the ring.

One cool point for Cien making quick work of Dawkins. Looks like we’re going to get a longer match when him and Roode fight. I think that’ll give us a better idea of what Cien can do, especially against a pro like Roode. So far, I like Cien though. Roode will work hard to get himself disliked so that Cien’s talents will shine even brighter.

Coming Up: Samoa Joe vs. Mojo Rawley in a grudge match

It’s another official theme song for nXt Takeover: Brooklyn II- “Giant” by Banks & Steelz

Fourth Segment

Backstage, Austin Aries is in GM Regal’s office. He closes the iMac laptop to get Regal’s attention. As he holds an orange, he states his case for how special the Takeover card would be if he was on it. Right now, it’s not so special. Roode even got a match and he just arrived.

Regal agrees that Aries should have an opponent: No Way Jose.
Aries isn’t super impressed but he’ll take it.

Singles Match: Billie Kay vs. Liv Morgan

Kay and Morgan lock up. Off the ropes, Kay with the shoulder block. She follows it with a fireman`s carry and an armlock. She holds it only briefly until she whips Morgan off the ropes, only to get knocked down. Morgan flips over a fallen Kay and brushes dirt off of her shoulder. She tries a backwards handspring, gets caught in a wheelbarrow position but Morgan counters it into a spinning head scissors.

Morgan jumps into the corner where Kay drops her face first into the turnbuckle. She covers her for a 2 count. She laces into Morgan with punches and kicks, brings her to her feet and chokes her with her boot. Suplex for a 2 count.

Kay with the chinlock, bending back the left arm of Morgan and it’s effective in slowing her down but not hurting her badly. Morgan fights back and frees herself of the hold. Chinbreaker from Morgan. Clothesline. Off the ropes, running bulldog and she is fired up.

Into the corner, Morgan flips Kay on to her back with her feet and Kay is hurting. Morgan misses the heel kick and gets a big boot in the face from Kay. 1-2-3.

Winner: Billie Kay via pinfall in 4 minutes

One cool point for Liv Morgan who actually got more offense in in a losing effort than Kay did. Kay gets a point for showing off her flexibility and kicking attacks. Her profile has certainly risen in the last few weeks as there’s plenty of room underneath Bayley and Asuka for the women to get some attention.

Recap: We see footage from last week’s episode of the Cruiserweight Classic where Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa fought each other in what was an incredible match. Gargano eventually got the first round win but it didn’t separate the two. Lots of respect between both guys.

Backstage, GM Regal praises Gargano and Ciampa for their match but says he doesn’t want their team to be messed up because they’re facing The Revival at Takeover: Brooklyn. Ciampa says families fight but they stay together. Gargano says history will repeat itself for The Revival and they’ll lose their tag team championships to Gargano and Ciampa.

A promo for Ember Moon is shown. She`ll be arriving on August 20th at Takeover: Brooklyn II.

Fifth Segment

Tag Team Match: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa vs. Tucker Knight & Patrick Clark

Clark and Gargano take the centre of the ring to begin this tilt. Clark has Gargano in the side headlock until Gargano steps down on Clark`s calf to take over. He gets Clark to the mat with the wristlock until deciding to tag in Ciampa. Ciampa twists the other wrist and, off the ropes, they execute a combination of a drop toe hold, kick to the back of the head and a running knee to the head of Clark. Clark`s buckling against the ropes but won`t let go as Ciampa tries to pull him. Big slap from Ciampa. Reversal by Clark and Ciampa runs right into Knight. This allows Clark to tag in his partner.

Knight brings the knees to Ciampa and a running body splash in the corner. 1-2- kickout. Knight can`t maintain his offense as Ciampa headbutts him and then kicks him in the back of the head. He tags in Gargano and it`s a flying clothesline, followed by a dropkick and a rolling kick to the chin.

Gargano has Knight waiting for him in the corner. He runs, gets thrown up by Knight, lands on the apron. Knight bounces off the opposite ropes…right into a spear! Running elbow. Ciampa`s tagged in. He knees Clark off the apron, then knees Knight. Gargano`s tagged in and the two tag partners deliver double kicks to Knight`s head. Good night....Knight.

Winners: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa via pinfall in 5 minutes

One cool point for the #1 contenders for the tag titles. Their double team work is so fluid and fresh. I love the confidence they have right now and their style will match up well with The Revival. A wrestling clinic is not out of the question.

Recap: We see Hideo Itami’s return match last week, picking up where he left off over a year ago. He’ll be in action next week.

Backstage, Mojo Rawley is asked about his thoughts facing Samoa Joe tonight. Rawley’s quite upset. He’s bringing the fight to Joe. It’s not about getting hype, it’s about getting even.

Final Segment

Non-Title Singles Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Mojo Rawley

Rawley charges at Joe with a flurry of punches to begin and Joe’s right back at him, delivering knees and chops. Off the ropes, Rawley runs over Joe three times in a row, knocking Joe right out of the ring. Rawley is HYPED up.

Outside of the ring, he yells in Joe’s face and clobbers him some more. He charges again and Joe sends him into the steel steps at ringside…headfirst. Momentum killed. Joe breaks the referee’s count and then goes back to bring Rawley into the ring. Jabs from Joe have Rawley reeling on the ropes but Rawley continues to fight back. Is this a boxing match? Whip to the opposite corner, full body attack from Joe and a spinning heel kick to the skull. Rawley’s slow to get to his feet. Joe continues with chops and kicks. Big elbow drop. He pins Rawley for a 2 count.

Rawley fights his way to his feet, bounces off the ropes, right into Joe’s arm. Joe says he’s the champ. He lifts Rawley on to the top rope in the corner. Rawley fights back with elbows to Joe’s head and a flying clothesline from the second rope! Another clothesline and Joe counters with an attempt to wrap the Coquina Clutch on Rawley. Rawley evades it with an arm drag takedown. He follows it with a full nelson side slam for a 2 count. Graves says he didn’t get the full nelson fully locked though.

Joe’s dazed in the opposite corner. Rawley splashes him once. He goes back for a second but Joe spikes him hard into the mat. He applies the Coquina Clutch. Rawley resists briefly but taps out. There was nowhere for him to go.

Winner: Samoa Joe via submission in 6 minutes

Post-match, Joe holds the nXt championship in his hand and then applies the Coquina Clutch once more, just in case Nakamura missed it the first time. nXt referees try to break the hold until Nakamura’s music hits. He stands on the stage, jiving to his music. He saunters down to the ring as security team members hold back Joe in the ring. Nakamura loves it and walks even closer to Joe as he’s held back by at least 5 guys.
Nakamura pulls Joe’s nose and laughs as referees plead with him to leave and for Joe to calm down.

Nakamura slaps Joe in the face and Joe is all riled up. The crowd loves it and is cheering hard for Nakamura as the show closes.

One cool point for Mojo Rawley who looked good in this short match with the nXt champion. He absolutely held his own and looked tough with his high-intensity, high impact moves. One cool point for Samoa Joe for being just as tough..but being a little smarter and for having that Coquina Clutch in his arsenal. I think it’s the best submission move in nXt today. Nobody escapes it. That’s hype.

Oh yes, and one cool point for the shenanigans of one Shinsuke Nakamura. Can you feel the electricity? The arena in Brooklyn is going to lose its roof, thanks to the excitement of 15 000 nXt wrestling fans who are salivating at the thought of this championship match. Nakamura has tons of support but will he win the title? Is Joe’s time over?

Looking forward to your answers to those questions and your cool point suggestions on tonight’s episode.

Peace!
