WWE House Show Results from Anchorage, Alaska 1/17/13

Thanks to Ryan M. for emailing this report!

Crowd was pretty well-packed in the lower deck, the balcony was about half empty. I’d say about 1,500 people.

Tony Chimel came out for ring announcing duties. He announced the World Heavyweight Championship match between Big Show and Alberto Del Rio would be either a 2 out of 3 falls match or a No Disqualification match, determined by fan voting.

The Usos def. The Prime Time Players in the opening match. Big pop for the Usos from the Samoan crowd here. They kept playing up the dual “U” and “SO” chants. Usos won after both performing the Superfly Splash on Titus & Darren simutaneously.

Justin Gabriel def. Curt Hawkins. I was surprised to see Hawkins, it sounds like it was his first match back after being out with an injury. He was sporting a clean cut hairstyle and the beard he had when I had last seen him was gone, it made him look a lot like AJ Styles in my opinion. Gabriel wins after a springboard moonsault.

Layla def. Aksana. Pretty decent Divas match in my opinion. A little bit of pandering to the crowd during the match, they did this spot where Aksana was going to high-five a fan and pulled her hand away to get some boos from the crowd. Layla then gave the guy a hug to a good response. Layla wins after the Bombshell roundhouse kick.

Kofi Kingston def. Heath Slater (with Jinder Mahal as 3MB). No Drew McIntyre. Mahal and Slater got some heat for trashing Alaska and were about to “perform” before Kofi’s music interrupted them. Lots of nearfalls and some unseen interference from Jinder. Kofi wins after Trouble in Paradise. After the match Mahal tried to badmouth Kofi before getting a Trouble in Paradise of his own.

Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) & Randy Orton def. The Shield in a 6-man tag. Orton got the biggest pop of the night. The Shield did their crowd entrance just like on TV which was pretty cool to see live. Lots of back and forth action. Orton got the hot tag and did his comeback before hitting the rope-hung DDT on Ambrose and was about to hit the RKO on him before Reigns came in and hit him in the stomach with the steel chair for the DQ. The faces came back in for a brawl and ended with Kane hitting the chokeslam on Rollins and then Orton hitting the RKO on Ambrose. Team Hell No got a pop from the crowd when they got the hug on Orton.

Intermission

The Great Khali def. David Otunga. Otunga did his show-off routine with the proper music after his entrance. Khali was accompanied by Hornswoggle. Otunga worked on Khali’s leg for most of the match. The end came when Otunga brought Hornswoggle in the ring and shoved him around until he “hulked up” and kicked Otunga in the shin and gave him a stunner, turning Otunga right into a chop on Khali which led to the pin.

Sheamus def. Wade Barrett in a non-title match. Wade Barrett cut a promo before the match saying he could beat anybody up in the crowd. Sheamus came out to a good pop. Sheamus won after ducking the Bullhammer and landing a Brogue Kick for the pin.

World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio (with Ricardo Rodriguez) def. Big Show. The crowd chose a No Disqualification match with 84% of the vote. Mixed reactions for both Del Rio and Big Show, same with Ricardo. Crowd seemed to be a little bit more behind Big Show face-wise. A few tables and chairs were used. The end came when Show laid Del Rio onto a table in the ring and was going to splash him before receiving an enziguri from Del Rio and went through the table before getting pinned.

Overall it was a good show. I haven’t seen a WWE show since they were up here nearly 10 years ago (it was a Smackdown show that time also) and they performed strong.

Biggest pops:
Randy Orton
Sheamus
Kofi Kingston
The Usos
Daniel Bryan

Heat:
Wade Barrett
The Shield
3MB (Heath Slater & Jinder Mahal)
Prime Time Players
David Otunga
