August 1, 2009 - South Shore Music Circus - Cohasset, MA
The Music Circus is small but a very cool place to see a show. It appears to be sold-out and the crowd is pretty energetic. Howard Finkel will be doing to announcing on this evening.
Yoshii Tatsu defeats Shelton Benjamin - Really good opening bout. A lot of good back and forth action. Yoshii wins it with a knockout kick.
ECW General Manager Tiffany comes out and asks a few fans some trivia. They are then upgraded to the front row.
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat defeats Drew McIntyre - This was a real pleasant surprise. I was psyched but half the crowd was too young to appreciate "The Dragon." Good match, Ricky can still go. He wins it with his signature high cross body.
Tyler Reks defeats Paul Burchill - Maybe the crowd was more into Ricky Steamboat than I originally thought because they were dead for this match. I can't really blame them. Reks wins it with a springboard dropkick.
Tyson Kidd defeats Jimmy Wang Yang - The Hart Dynasty hits the ring and David Hart Smith cuts a promo. He introduces himself as the son of the great British Bulldog but points out that he is much greater. He also says Bret Hart may have been right about being the best there is and the best there was but Tyson Kidd is the best there ever will be. A short but entertaining contest. Tyson Kidd wins via a rollup with his feet on the ropes.
John Morrison defeats Mike Knox - My hat really goes off to Mike Knox as I've never seen him have a better match. Tough to believe it competed with Tatsu/Benjamin for MOTN. Morrison takes a beating and returns the favor by hitting all his spots. He wins it with the Starship pain.
Melina defeats Katie Lea Burchill - Short but solid Diva match. Michelle McCool appeared and taunted Melina with the Women's Championship but despite the distraction, she reversed a rollup attempt to pick up the victory.
Christian defeated William Regal to regain the ECW Championship - I was disappointed by this match. Much shorter than I thought it would be. Maybe one of the guys wasn't feeling great. Christian seemed off. He pinned Regal with a rollup.
CM Punk defeated Kane and The Great Khali to become the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship - Teddy Long comes to the ring to announce the stipulation. Punk plays a great heel the entire match and bumps all over the place for both big men. The crowd was eating it up and really behind Khali. Kane hits the chokeslam on Khali and Punk dropkicks him out of the ring and capitalizes on the fallen Khali.
Khali was the most over guy of the night with Christian and John Morrison trailing right behind. CM Punk got the most heat by a mile but the Hart Dynasty and Mike Knox garnered some reactions of their own. Overall a fun show.
