Just got back from the WWE Raw/ECW Road To Wrestlemania house show.
Announcer told us no HBK tonight to the biggest boo's of the night.
Match one featured Kofi Kingston going over William Regal w/Leyla with a
huge kick to the head.
Match two saw Legacy (Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase) go over Cryme Time with a
cheap double team while the ref was removing JTG from the ring.
Cody and Dibiase then did a typical promo about being Priceless.
Match three was Mike Knox squashing Hacksaw Charlie Haas until Haas broke
out with a surprise three point stance clothesline for the win.
Match four was the Belfast Brawl with Finlay w/Hornswaggle vs Mark Henry.
Henry sucked and the crowd was dead until Finlay started unloading with
every weapon he could. Ending saw Hornswaggle get hit with a kendo stick
which gave Finlay the chance to hit Mark Henry with the shileleigh for the
pin. Finlay got a bunch of kids to dance and run around the ring with
Hornswaggle and then posed them on the turnbuckles and the crowd ate it up.
The crowd was hot with cheers for the entrances of the faces and loved to
boo the heels throughout the matches but was otherwise dead going into
intermission.
Match three was a diva tag-match with Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendez vs Mickie
James and Melina. Melina was greeted with a huge crowd reaction both for her
entrance and her hot tag. Melina ended with a clean pin on an
"inexperienced" Rosa Mendez . Funny moment saw Beth pick up Rosa to carry
her out and Santino "helping" by carrying Rosa's feet.
Teddy Long came out and asked if we were ready for Wrestlemania and called
out Jack Swagger who said he wouldn't wrestle in front of us because he was
a 2-time champion from OU and got all the Longhorn marks mad at him. It was
hilarious. Teddy made him defend his championship against Christian who got
a huge reaction and a small TNA chant which he ignored. These two had the
match of the night. Both guys were electric and Swagger worked the crowd
with the OU hand signs throughout the match. As usual, the champ goes over
but Christian got a good ovation after Swagger had exited.
Final match saw Jericho cut a promo about being great and all of us sucking.
Good heat. Kane came out to be his partner to a face's reaction. CM Punk
came out to a hot reaction but mostly because everyone knew what was next.
Rey Mysterio came out to the second largest pop of the night. As he made his
entrance, he took a fan's Mexican flag and got in the ring and waved it to
the biggest pop of the night and then Jericho stomped the Mexican flag and
kicked it out of the ring then took to the mic to remind him we are in the
USA and Mysterio said "we may be in the USA pero mucho la raza aqui anoche"
(but there are lots of "the people" here tonight) to a mix of boos and
cheers and garnered a small USA chant which was greeted with a Mexico chant
which got the crowd pretty heated and divided with quite a bit of heat for
Rey in our section at least. Rey then said something else in Spanish that
got a huge reaction and prompted even more heat for him. After that, the
match started and things calmed down in the stands and the finish saw Rey
hitting a double 619 on Kane and Jericho and CM Punk hitting GTS on Jericho
as Rey hit the second half of 619 on Kane for a double pin. The faces then
celebrated as the crowd filed out.
That was about it. Lots of people in my section were ticked that Shawn
Michaels was pretty much the entire focus of the advertising around here and
didn't show. Swagger is impressive live and has good mic skills and
Christian was the performer of the night easily. From an old school
story-telling point of view, the Legacy/Cryme Time bout was really well told
with a classic face in peril pace and a nice bit of heel play with
distracted refs. Hacksaw Charlie Haas vs Mike Knox was a total waste of time
as most of the people were too young to remember the real Hacksaw. Rosa did
really well in the ring with Mickie but something never seemed right with
Melina, they never seemed to hit a stride. Beth worked most of the match
anyway.
