Good evening everyone! I’m your ECW Reporter, Ivan Wong. Enjoy the live report this week!

ECW on Sci-Fi

London, England

The ECW video package plays followed by the usual fireworks. Josh Mathews welcomes us to the show as Matt Striker hypes a contract signing between Christian and Jack Swagger for later on tonight.

Finlay says that Hornswoggle was drafted to RAW last week. As a result, tonight is his last night on ECW. Hornswoggle gets on the mic. and says that he wants to wrestle. The crowd chants for Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle then attempts to say thank you to the fans, but he gets cut off by Tyson Kidd’s theme song.

Kidd and Natalya find their way down to the ring. Kidd gets on the microphone and insults Hornswoggle by calling him a little midget. Finlay backs up his son by calling the heels a pair of teletubbies.

Natalya then supports Kidd by saying that Bret Hart lied when he said that he would be the best that there ever will be because the real person who will be the best is none other than Tyson Kidd. Natalya then suggests that Finlay and Hornwoggle should leave, but the fan favorites stay. Natalya and Kidd turn around and Hornswoggle bites Natalya her the rear end. She flees to the outside and challenges Hornswoggle to a match.

Match 1: Natalya (w/Tyson Kidd) vs. Hornwoggle (w/Finlay)
Natalya wants a test of strength, but whenever Hornswoggle gets near her, she moves her hands up leaving the leprechaun angered. Eventually Hornwoggle bites her and gives her spear. Kidd gets on the apron, but Finlay quickly takes him down. Suddenly out of nowhere, Natalya snapmares Hornswoggle and turns her attention to Finlay, who is outside of the ring. Hornswoggle sneaks up from behind and rolls her up with a school boy for the win.

Your Winner: Hornswoggle

Following the match, Finlay and Hornswoggle bring in a bunch of little kids to the ring and they all dance in the ring together as the crowd gives them a round of applause.

Still to come is the Contract Signing between Christian and John Cena.

Match 2: Evan Bourne vs. Paul Burchill (w/Katie Lea)
Bourne gets a quick leg sweep and a dropkick to start the match. Bourne then goes to the top rope, but after a distraction from Katie Lea, Burchill knocks the highflyer down and puts a pounding on him. Bourne struggles to fight back, but gets caught with a tiltawhirl backbreaker. Burchill then locks in a sleeper hold, but releases the hold to punish Bourne with a short-armed clothesline. Burchill then connects with a double underhook suplex followed by a double knee strike to the lower abdominal area of Bourne. Bourne once again struggles to fight back, and once again gets caught, but this time with what Striker called a “Trap leg overhead suplex.” Following a 2 count, Burchill applies a modified reverse chin lock. After several minutes, Bourne surprises Burchill with a roundhouse kick to the forehead. Bourne continues to build the momentum with a jumping knee to Burchill’s face followed by a spinning heel kick and a Clothesline. Bourne goes for the pin, but gets a 2 count. Bourne then attempts to splash onto Burchill in the corner, but Burchill grabs Bourne and slams him down to the mat with a modified Uranagi. Burchill signals for a double knee strike, but Bourne dodges it, causing Burchill to slam into the turnbuckle. Bourne goes to the top rope, but Burchill stops him. Burchill tries for an electric chair, but Bourne reverses it by dropping Burchill on his head. Bourne goes up and connects with his Shooting Star Splash for the win.

Your Winner: EVAN BOURNE

Before the match, Kolzov gets on the mic. and states that Russian athletes are superior.

Match 3: Vladimir Kozlov vs. Frankie Sloan
Kozlov strikes with a mid kick to the chest of Sloan and then gives him a few headbutts followed by a big boot and battering ram. Kozlov raises his hand and the crowd boos him. Kozlov then gives Sloan a kneeling chokeslam and picks up the victory.

Your Winner: VLADIMIR KOZLOV

This week on WWE Superstars Edge will take on Kofi Kingston.

Tiffany is in the ring to make the match between Christian and Swagger official. The challenger, Christian, is introduced first. He receives a great ovation. The All-American American and the ECW Champion, Jack Swagger, is then introduced.

Tiffany asks for both men to take their seat. After they do Tiffany says that the rivals could make any final comments before their match at Backlash. Christian doesn’t want to talk and simply proceeds on signing the contract.

Swagger is surprised that Christian has nothing to say so he too then signs the contract before informing Christian that a new class of WWE Superstars emerged while he was away. And at the top of that class is Jack Swagger. Swagger continues by giving Christian credit for winning the Championship Chase, but quickly insults Christian by saying that he has lost his confidence.
“You can’t beat me! And that’s why you have nothing to say,” claims the ECW Champion.

After staring down Swagger a whole, Christian gets the mic and insults Swagger’s appearance and the way he talks. Christian says Swagger could run his mouth all he wants, but he chooses to focus on Backlash where he plans on making Swagger the biggest, fastest, and strongest EX-Champion in ECW history.

Tiffany thanks both superstars and leaves the ring.

Swagger holds the ECW title in front of Christian’s face and eventually blind sides Christian by striking at Captain Charisma. Swagger then kicks his Backlash opponent and breaks him through the table with his powerful Gutwrench Powerbomb. Swagger gets the ECW Championship belt and raises the title high above his head to end the show.

All in all, I felt we were presented with a decent show. It was nothing of great significance, but it was still and entertaining show, especially because of the closing segment.

ECW Grade for April 21, 2009: B-
