TNA Impact 4/2/09
From Orlando, Florida

The show opened with a video package recapping the Lethal Lockdown match and the vacant captain spot that Samoa Joe passed on.

The title of the show is "Still Crazy After All These Years".

The opening video aired.

Mike Tenay and Don West introduced the show from ringside and said viewers would hear from Sting and Mick Foley later in the show.

Jeff Jarrett's music played and he came to the ring for a promo. He explained that Samoa Joe wants to be on the Lethal Lockdown team, but he has no interest in captaining the team or selecting it's members. Jarrett said that as the founder of TNA, it was up to him to introduce the captain.

Jarrett introduced A.J. Styles as the captain who will oppose the Kurt Angle captained team in the Lethal Lockdown match. Tenay said Styles is the first Grand Slam Champion in TNA because he's the only person who has held every belt in the company, including the Legends Title.

Styles said he's honored that Jarrett asked him to be the champion, but he has to decline the offer. "I'm not qualified to be team captain," he said. "What have I done? If anything, I've let you down." Styles said Jarrett put his house and life on the line for a bunch of independent wrestlers he believed in. He said Jarrett took a chance on Styles, Joe, Christopher Daniels, Eric Young, and James Storm.

"We are the originals and we let you down," Styles said. He added that he'll be on the team in the Lethal Lockdown match, but he feels that Jarrett should lead the team as the captain. "You lead us and you will lead us into victory and I guarantee we will not let you down, not this time," Styles said. Jarrett shook hands with Styles and hugged him.

Scott Steiner's music played and he walked to the ring with a microphone. He said he was coming to the ring as Jarrett's friend of over 20 years. He said the two of them travelled together and tried to make names for themselves in the business. Steiner said Jarrett might be confused because Mick Foley went out of his mind, but he has to realize that he has nothing in common with the young punks on his team.

Steiner brought up Jarrett's late wife Jill and said how close they were. "One of the last things she said to me was help Jeff, please take care of my girls," Steiner said. He said Jill trusted him, so Jeff should do the same. Steiner insinuated that Jarrett should join him in the Mafia.

Styles interrupted and took offense to Steiner's comments. He challenged Steiner to face him in a match. "You want a match, you got a match," Steiner responded.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed Kurt Angle in the Main Event Mafia locker room about Steiner's proposal to Jeff. Angle said all the chips are in place now and endorsed the idea. Angle said Sting never left the faction, and Jarrett belongs with the Main Event Mafia. Angle told Kevin Nash that the last thing they need is Jenna Morasca to invest her money in TNA. "What I want you to do is charm the pants off that bitch," Angle said.

Backstage, Lauren told Sheik Abdul Bashir that he had 15 seconds to deliver a statement. Kiyoshi and No Limit joined him, and he spoke about the fall of the United States.

1. Sheik Abdul Bashir, Kiyoshi, and No Limit defeated LAX and Lethal Consequences in an eight-man tag match in 4:00. Tenay and West spent some time squabbling over Angle. Of course, Tenay questioned his motives, while West called him a great man. In the end, Bashir DDT'd Creed and pinned him. Tenay questioned whether Bashir was the legal man in the match. Replay showed that he was.

Backstage, Borash tried to interview Jarrett, but Foley interrupted and rambled. Jarrett took offense and told Foley to get out of his chair. He said never thought he'd regret letting Foley buy part of TNA, and said maybe he should join the Mafia. Foley said no one wants to tune in to TNA and watch "big guys that get along." He said they need the Mafia. Jarrett said Foley wasn't cut out to be a leader.

Backstage, Jim Cornette said he owed Team 3D a favor. He was about to give it to them, but the Main Event Mafia security entered the room and took offense to Team 3D keeping them away from the ring. They said they wanted Team 3D in the ring. Cornette cracked that the last thing they need is more big mouthed Italians in TNA. Brother Ray acted offended, and Cornette backed down.

The Beautiful People interrupted the announcers and said they were going to cut Taylor Wilde's hair.

A Lockdown pay-per-view commercial aired.

Tenay's sit-down interview with Foley aired from "earlier today." He asked whether it was in the back of his mind six months ago that he wanted to be TNA. Foley said he didn't think that way six months ago. He said he was a settler then. He got fired up and told a story about his son asking him whether a leprechaun was going to deliver presents to their house on March 16. "Why not?" Foley asked regarding his son's question and about becoming TNA Champion. "Why the hell not".

The latest Dr. Stevie and Abyss segment aired. Abyss said he accepted a "Doomsday Chamber of Blood" match with Matt Morgan for the pay-per-view. Stevie stood up and closed the door and then struck Abyss repeatedly. Abyss cried out in agony and covered himself. Stevie calmed down and took his seat again. "Same time next week, Chris?" asked Stevie. Abyss agreed to the next session.

The latest Rough Cut segment aired on Team 3D. Ray and Devon took turns talking about their enjoyment of tables, hardcore matches, and the six sides of steel.

2. Team 3D beat Main Event Mafia Security in 4:10. James Storm and Robert Roode sat in on commentary. Team 3D was distracted by Beer Money's presence, so Mafia Security took advantage of the situation and jumped Team 3D from behind to start the match. MEM Security dominated early, but Team 3D came back and hit their finisher for the clean pin.

After the match, Rocco (the bigger MEM Security member) struck both Team 3D members with a chair. Beer Money entered the ring and took the chair. They teased hitting Team 3D, but cleared the MEM Security from the ring instead. They picked up the IWGP Tag Title belts and handed them to Team 3D.

Backstage, Foley was telling Borash that Jarrett was a party pooper when Samoa Joe walked out of the darkness and put his giant f'n Rambo knife against Borash's chest. He said he wants the Mafia. Foley said he could make that happen.

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Beer Money. Roode said their actions in the ring were reassurance to the skeptics who didn't believe the serious side they displayed last week. He said they want Team 3D at their best at the pay-per-view, and they'll have their backs until then. Storm said he wants to see the looks on the faces of the crazy Philly fans when Beer Money proves they're the greatest tag team in the world by beating Team 3D.

Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Booker T, and Sharmell came to the ring. Angle politely asked Sting to join him in the ring. Angle said he questioned Sting's loyalty and integrity. He said he questioned Sting's word and even spat in his face. He said Sting would understand why he's so paranoid if he'd lived his life. "What I'm trying to say, Sting, is that I was wrong about you," Angle said. "All I can do is humble myself and apologize."

Sting said a simple handshake wouldn't erase everything Angle's done to him over the last couple months. He said they talk about all the spoiled brats in the locker room, but Kurt is the biggest spoiled brat in the company. "Your ego has gone too far this time and I'm not buying it," Sting said.

Angle said Sting was right about everything and apologized again. Sting started to leave the ring when Nash called him back. "The man apologizes to you in front of all these people and you're just going to walk away?" Nash asked. "Whatever happened to turn the other cheek?" Sting told him not to go there, but Nash said he's already there.

The fans chanted, "Walk away," to Sting. Nash acknowledged the chant and said Sting is the only person who can make it right. He pleaded with Sting to help make it right. Before Sting could respond, Mick Foley appeared in the rafters. He said showed off his barbwire baseball bat and said he's been getting reacquainted with an old friend. He said he wants to make sure Sting is ready for him, so he booked Sting in a non-title match against Samoa Joe.

Another Dr. Stevie segment aired. This time the former Governor was sitting on his couch dressed in punk garb as the Daffney character. She talked about going to therapy in the past. She pulled out a scissors and recalled the Beautiful People cutting her hair. She started to cry and cut some of her own hair off. She said a doctor told her that brains can't always be fixed.

3. Taylor Wilde defeated Madison Rayne (w/Angelina Love, Velvet Sky) in 2:50. Wilde overcame outside interference to roll up Rayne for the pin. Afterward, they tried to cut Taylor's hair, but she slipped away. Love and Sky blamed Rayne and ordered her to get Taylor.

Backstage, Taylor was beating up Madison until the Beautiful People entered the room and outnumbered her. They held her as Madison cut off locks of her hair. Security entered the room and then backed down when Madison held up the scissors.

The announcers hype upcoming house show events and ran through the Lockdown pay-per-view lineup.

They said the Styles vs. Steiner match was coming up after the break.

Backstage, Lauren tried to tell that bitch Jenna Morasca (Angle's words, not mine) what Angle said about her, but Kevin Nash showed up in playboy mode and lured her away.

4. Scott Steiner defeated A.J. Styles in 9:55. After a couple minutes of forgettable action, the show cut to commercial.

After the break, Styles went for a move off the top rope, but Steiner pulled the referee in front of him. Angle ran out and slid a chair inside the ring for Steiner. Styles ducked and hit the Pele kick. Jeff Jarrett ran out and attacked Angle.

Styles wound up to hit Steiner with the chair, but Jarrett reached in and stopped him so that he wouldn't get DQ'd. Angle pulled Jarrett off the ring apron while Steiner hit a move on the chair and scored the pin. Afterward, Tenay and West bickered over whether Jarrett cost Styles the match.

Backstage, Borash interviewed Sting about his match against Samoa Joe. Sting said it's clear that Joe has snapped, but he'll survive the match because that's what he does. He said Foley would pay next week.

5. Sting beat Samoa Joe by DQ in a non-title match in 1:35. Big pop for Sting. Zero reaction for Joe. Ouch. Sting went for a splash early, but Joe caught him and slammed him to the mat. Moments later, Joe shoved the referee for the DQ. Joe beat up another referee and then hit the Muscle Buster and followed up with his submission finisher.

Booker ran in and attacked Joe, but Joe quickly fought him off and beat him down. Joe picked up a chair and Sharmel covered Booker to shield him. Joe teased swinging the chair but dropped it eventually. He left the ring, then reached inside and grabbed Sharmell. Joe threw her over his shoulder and headed to the backstage area to close the show.
