TNA House Show Results from Savannah, Georgia 10/21/12
Oct 22, 2012 - 11:39:48 AM
Note: I've been to Backlash 2007, the draft episode of RAW 2009, and Wrestlemanias 27 & 28. This was my first Impact Wrestling event and first house show overall. I have to say that this was probably the most fun I've ever had at a wrestling show. The venue was only between 20 and 30 percent full.
Match 1: AJ Styles def. Christopher Daniels
Daniels was hilarious in his pre-match promo. He kept pelvic thrusting towards the females and making sexual innuendos. His best line was, "Just like a box of Horny Charms, I'm sexually delicious!" It was a usual Styles/Daniels match with Lots of high-flying action. Most of the match they were working the crowd, which was great. Styles ended up winning with a Pele Kick into a Roll-Up. Very good match.
Match 2: Miss Tessmacher def. Gail Kim
Gail Kim tried to play the heel, but no matter what she did the crowd kept cheering her. Tessmacher used plenty of vulgar moves to keep us interested, but the crowd was mostly dead for this one. I'm not going to lie, I've already forgotten how Tessmacher won the match, but it was solid and went about ten minutes.
Before the third match JB introduced Earl Hebner as the most infamous official in professional wrestling history. Hebner came out to the ring with his own entrance music. As he got into the ring a guy yelled something at him. Hebner acted like he was going to confront him but was held back by security. The guy yelled out "You screwed Bret!" Hebner then took off his referee shirt to reveal a white t-shirt with text that said, "DAMN RIGHT I DID!" He then took out a pair of Purple Hitman Sunglasses, put them on and started doing the crotch chop to the fan. He then officiated in his t-shirt for the rest of the night.
Match 3: Samoa Joe & James Storm def. Magnus & Bobby Roode
Best match of the night by far. Lots of stalling by Roode to start the match which got him plenty of heat. Magnus is a natural heat magnet. He was getting boos for everything he did, whether it was a heel move or not, it was insane. The ending came when Storm gave Magnus a Last Call into a Coquina Clutch. Funny moment as I started chanting "Joe's Gonna Kill You!" he turned to me and motioned for me to calm down until he got in the ring.
Match 4: Jeff Hardy def. Austin Aries to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Maybe it's just me or he was holding back because it was house show, but he just wasn't as spectacular as he appears on tv. He cut a pre-match promo and made fun of Savannah to try and get heat, which came off flat. He also made fun of all the kids for wearing face paint and Jeff Hardy armbands. Jeff Hardy got cheered by the kids and booed by the adults. Seriously, this is just CM Punk v Cena, TNA style. Very average match between them, worst match of the night, not even close.
They announced that you could buy a Earl Hebner t-shirt (the same one he had on all night) and have him and Brian Hebner sign it for only ten dollars throughout the intermission.
Match 5: Bully Ray def. Rob Van Dam
Plenty of ECW chants, because people can't let it go. RVD encouraged the chants once they started. Bully played the heel throughout and won when he caught the Five Star Frog Splash into a Cutter. After he match he shook RVD's hand and raised it.
Main Event: Kurt Angle def. Member of Aces & 8's
JB announced this as a Hardcore Street Fight earlier in the night, but it was announced as normal match right before it began. Kurt Angle ended up winning with a Grapevined Ankle Lock. After the match, Angle tried to rip the member's mask off, but the Vice President of Aces & 8's ran through the crowd and stopped it. They double teamed him until Bully Ray ran down and made the save. Bully and Angle shook hands to officially end the show. When they turned the lights back on, JB announced that you could pay $20 to get in the ring and get your picture taken with Kurt Angle. As much as I would have liked to, twenty is a little much just for a picture. So my girlfriend and I went over to the merch stand and got our pictures with Earl & Brian Hebner for free.
