WWF Insurrextion Results - Saturday, May 5, 2001
From: Earl's court in London, England
Announcers: Michael Cole and Paul Heyman

Backstage, Vince McMahon confronted William Regal about who changed the line-up for tonight's card. Regal told McMahon that Linda did. Linda confronted Vince and said she did it because the fans wanted to see it. Linda said that the main event of HHH and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker in a handicap match was still on.

    Eddie Guerrero vs. Grandmaster Sexay
Grandmaster Sexay dominated most of the match. Sexay had the early control after a bulldog on the ramp. Sexay danced all throughout the match, and when Guerrero gained control, he mocked Sexay by dancing himself. Sexay took control after a bulldog and a top rope dropkick but couldn't get the pin. Sexay then delivered a powerbomb and went up to the top rope for the hip hop drop, but Guerrero moved out of the way. After Sexay missed a corner splash, Guerrero rolled Sexay up for the pin, using the ropes for leverage.
    Winner: Eddie Guerrero by pinfall

Hardcore and Crash Holly (w/Molly Holly) vs. The Radicalz
Before the match, Terri came out and said that it wasn't going to be a 6-person match because she couldn't find any wrestling gear in the UK. Back and forth match. Hardcore started to dominate early on after a spinebuster and a dropkick to Saturn. Saturn and Malenko then dominated Hardcore with a variety of suplexes. After Saturn missed a top rope elbow drop, Crash got the hot tag. Crash hit a DDT on Malenko and a top rope hurricanrana on Saturn. While Molly was fighting with Terri, Saturn hit the Moss Covered Three Handled Family Cradenza on Crash for the pin.
    Winners: The Radicalz by pinfall

The Big Show came out to the ring to challenge Test for a match but said Test wouldn't come out because he has broken ribs and he's a coward. Test came out favoring his ribs (which he wasn't even doing at Backlash) and got destroyed by the Big Show. Show then challenged anyone in the back to fight him, and out came Bradshaw.

    The Big Show vs. Bradshaw
Back and forth match. Bradshaw dominated early by using him clubbing fists and stiff kicks. Big Show came back with a sidewalk slam. Bradshaw recovered and hit a top rope shoulderblock for a 2 count. Show then threw Bradshaw to the outside and threw a chair into the ring. Show then attacked Test who was still down on the outside of the ring, and he threw him into the ring. He was going to hit him with the chair but Test hit the big boot into Show's face. Bradshaw then hit the Clothesline from Hell for the pin.
    Winner: Bradshaw by pinfall

Elimination Match: Edge and Christian vs. X-Factor vs. The Dudley Boys vs. The Hardy Boys
Dudleys and X-Factor started out. Bubba hit a few power moves on Credible who ran to the outside for a timeout and tagged Matt Hardy in. Christian then tagged himself in. The Hardys then dominated every team for the next few minutes. They hit the Poetry in Motion on Credible, hit the Twist of Fate on X-Pac and Jeff eliminated X-Pac after the Swanton Bomb. Edge and Christian then double-teamed Jeff and quickly got the elimination after Christian gave Jeff the Unprettier. Edge and Christian then double-teamed D-Von including a few backbreakers. After D-Von hit a top rope clothesline and a reverse suplex, Bubba got the hot tag. He hit Christian with a big backdrop, a sidewalk slam on Edge, the Bubba Bomb on Christian and the Wassup drop on Edge. Rhyno then came in behind the referee's back and hit the gore on Bubba and Edge got the pin. Rhyno then set up a table in the ring, but Spike Dudley came in and hit the Dudley Dogg on Edge, and the Dudleys hit the 3D on Rhyno through the table.
Winners: Edge and Christian by pinfall

Steven Richards and Ivory came out critising a local newspaper for publishing naked breasts of a woman in where children would see it. Richards then said he had permission from Commissioner Regal to censor the Women's Battle Royal. Lita, Trish Status and Jacqueline came out and attacked Ivory and stripped her down to her bra and panties. They also did the same to Richards, and Lita hit the moonsault for a big pop.

2 Out Of 3 Falls Match: Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle
Before the match, Benoit said he had Angle's medals in a very safe and warm place. Best match of the night. Both men exchanged some amateur wrestling counters early on. Benoit and Angle tried for their crossface and anklelock submissions early, but to no avail. Angle then hit a series of belly to belly suplexes, but Benoit came back and hit one of his own. Benoit then hit a series of 3 rolling snap suplexes. Benoit then hit another series of German suplexes. Benoit signalled for the end and went to the top rope and hit the diving headbutt for the pin and the first fall. Angle played possum with Benoit pretending he was hurt but instead attacked Benoit on the outside of the ring. Angle then hit a top rope belly to belly suplex for a 2 count. Angle hit another few suplexes for a few near falls. Benoit came back with a DDT and went to hit the diving headbutt again, but Angle moved out of the way. Benoit rolled out of an anklelock submission by Angle and applied the crossface which Angle also rolled out of, but Benoit rolled up Angle for the quick and surprising pin. Benoit won with 2-0 falls. After the match, Benoit said he had kept his promise and that Kurt's medals were in a warm and safe place, as all the time they were down his pants. Benoit put the medals around his neck and raised his arms in victory as the fans popped big.
    Winner: Chris Benoit by pinfalls

Queens Cup Match: William Regal vs. Chris Jericho
Very good match. It was a mixed reaction for Regal in his hometown, although whenever he did that wave to the crowd, the fans popped big. The two exchanged some lightweight-style counters early on. Jericho started out by hitting a top rope clothesline and a top rope crossbody for a 2 count. Jericho tried for the Walls of Jericho early on, but Regal escaped. Regal then worked over Jericho's shoulder by shoving him into the ringpost. Jericho came back with a top rope hurricanrana, but Regal retaliated with a overhead suplex. Jericho came back with a flying forearm and a bulldog. He went for the Lionsault but Regal got his knees up. Regal went for a German suplex, but Jericho escaped and applied the Walls of Jericho to Regal who tapped out for the win. After the match, Regal destroyed Jericho by hitting him with the Queen's Cup Trophy which actually drew quite a big pop.
    Winner: Chris Jericho by submission

Handicapped WWF Championship Match: Stone Cold Steve Austin and HHH vs. The Undertaker
The only way the Undertaker could win the WWF Title is if he pinned Stone Cold. HHH's entrance probably received the biggest pop of the night. Austin and HHH double-teamed the Undertaker early on. The Undertaker then segregated Austin on the outside and backdropped him on the ramp. Back in the ring, the Undertaker hit HHH with a backdrop and the Old School forearm off the top rope. Austin was then tagged in and hit the Undertaker with a Thesz press and a few elbow drops. While Stephanie distracted the referee, Austin nailed the Undertaker with a chair but he kicked out. The Undertaker then resurged and chokeslammed HHH through the announcers table at ringside. Back in the ring, the Undertaker chokeslammed Austin but only for a 2 count. HHH came back with a facebuster and a clothesline. Mr McMahon came down to the ring and went to hit the Undertaker with the chair, but he ducked and McMahon nailed HHH. The Undertaker then chokeslammed McMahon and also chokeslammed HHH for the pin. After the match, the Undertaker also chokeslammed Austin and nailed McMahon, HHH and Austin all with a chair.
    Winner: The Undertaker by pinfall

As the show went off the air, The Undertaker rode up the ramp on his motorcycle to a big pop.

I attended Insurrextion live at Earls Court, and I can drop you a few notes on what went down there...

*The crowd popped huge for small things as we waited for the show to start, such as the house lights being turned on, a pyro base being moved etc.

*There was no dark match. Lilian Garcia, Paul Heyman and Michael Cole came down (Garcia and Cole to pops, Heyman to about 51% heel heat), and the show started as the fans watching at home saw it.

*I got on TV a few times, albeit from a large distance. Don't know about shots when wrestlers entered the ring, but in certain camera angles, I could see myself moving my signs about. Stupid children behind me claimed they couldn't see... they should have thought about that before they bought tiered seats behind a 6'4" fan!

*I was right at the edge of a tier, right next to some stairs. Mainly patrolling that section was a sexy young female security guard who looked a lot like Tina from S Club 7, so when I wasn't trying to get myself on TV, I tried chatting her up half the time. Missed a lot of the four-way-dance tag throughout that, but she told me I looked sexy when I imitated Triple H's water spit entrance (I was even clad in HHH's trademark denim/leather jacket combo in honour of The Game). She knew nothing about wrestling though, so I turned my attentions to getting myself on TV again.

*The crowd were surprisingly pro-E&C, not-so-surprisingly pro-Angle, HHH and Austin, and there were mixed reactions for William Regal. My section popped huge for him. During the Angle/Benoit match, whilst the crowd did their Benoit chant, we shouted Angle over them. Of the celebrities that were there, Eammon Holmes got 2-thirds heel heat, the crowd popped huge for Chris Tarrant and Franco Zola received heel heat from the non-Chelsea fans in the crowd (I support Arsenal, so count me in the people who booed him).

*About five minutes after the show was done (nothing happened after the cameras turned off except that HHH and SCSA gave the crowd the finger), we saw everyone involved in the main event in their regular clothes leave the arena. We even popped huge for the McMahons. Stephanie looked at me and I think HHH had a small glance at the man who dressed just like him. The rest (UT, VKM, SCSA) walked on past without acknowledgement. A couple of minutes after they left, me and my people left through exactly the same exit (poorly guarded) and trailed a couple of blackened cars.

All in all, it was a good experience live, probably looked better than it did on TV (I've seen some reactions and they weren't too positive). Why spent £14 to not enjoy it on TV when you can spent £50 and actually have a good night out? The one thing that sucked (apart from Big Show's mic work)? That the female security guard looked like Tina S Club instead of Rachel S Club!!!

Only a few dozon people came for the PPV showing at WWFNY. The section with the stage was where the ppv was shown. The other half of the restaurant was cut off and the screens were showing reruns of the past weeks shows. I missed the opening of the show with Regal and Vince McMahon, but the jist was that Linda McMahon and Regal changed most of the matches on the show. In case I skip something or the sequence is wrong, bear in mind that I'm doing this from memory.

Eddie Guererro pinned Grandmaster Sexay with a roll up (and his feet on the ropes) Decent opener with the UK crowd being really hot and the people in NY not really caring.

Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn beat The Holly Brothers (that's what Micheal Cole called them...) via Three handed moongoose thing that Saturn uses as a finsher. This was changed from a six person tag to a regular tag when Terri complained that she couldn't find any wrestling gear in the country. Again the UK crowd was hot with the NY crowd getting into the match. We were all into the next few matches and segments.

Big Show/Test match was cancelled. Show actually cut a good promo and called Test out so that he could raise Show's hand in victory. Oddly, they showed footage of Big Show beating on Test a couple weeks ago to explain why Test was injured. After the footage was shown, Cole mentioned that Test was beat up by HHH on Raw. Show attacked Test and, after a little trouble, hit the Final Cut on him.

Show went to leave, but Bradshaw came out and they had a match. Decent match until the ending, when Test kicked a chair into Show's face and Bradshaw hit Show with the Clothesline from Hell. Show clearly had his foot on the rope while being pinned, but the ref and the annoucners didn't notice it.

Great 4 team elimination match with the Hardys, X-Factor, E&C and the Dudleys. E&C sure do win a lot of tag matches. Why does the European Champ never defend his belt in Europe? X-Factor's starting to get over, or maybe it's just Aldo.

After a Kurt Angle interview, Steven Richards and Ivory had a segment. Basically an excuse or a lot of T&A, not that I'm complaining.

Great Benoit/Angle match. I was shocked that Benoit took 2 straight falls in this, but I guess Kurt saves face since he didn't have his medals. Medals that I hope he washes very soon considering where Benoit had them hidden...

Decent Jericho/Regal match. One guy in NY went to sleep on the match, but everyone else was paying attention.

The main event was good and had lots of crowd heat. UT's bleeding looked accidental, but other than that I couldn't find anything wrong with the match. Oh, except it for the spot when UT was suppose to go for the running ddt on Hunter, but instead stopped for a moment and then did a regular ddt. UT was also the only person that the NY crowd all rooted.

Pretty good PPV. Much better than Backlash.

As Insurrexion was going off the air, the ring was pelted with empty plastic bottles and cans a la WCW. Unfortunately Stephanie McMahon was hit by a foreign object and looked to be either cut badly or something may have injured her eye.

She was quickly escorted by Triple H and Earl Hebner up the aisle. They made sure to cover Stephanie's face with their hands and quickly escorted her backstage. Austin stopped next to the Titan Tron, turned around and stuck his Middle fingers to the entire crowd left, right and centre. Triple H then came back out and this time stuck two fingers up at everyone. It was unclear whether they were playing as heels or due to Stephanie's possible injury.

There was some confusion over the Main Event as it did not seem clear to the audience whether the Undertaker had become new champion by pinning Triple H.

They were instances where crowd noise was pumped through the PA system in the Arena, including the Regal V Jericho match.

Trailers of The Mummy 2 were shown after the event including a short interview with The Rock.
