Breaking The Walls Down
Hello and welcome back to another installation of Breaking The Walls Down. Another week is upon us and the wrestling world is standing still. However it was my birthday on the 17th of August, so I had fun. Many thanks to my family and my Princess for the presents, they are great. Also, my two year anniversary on LoP is coming up, wow I never really thought that it has been that long, but it has been. Well, onto Bits and Pieces.
Bits and Pieces
People are upset with Tazz for his attitude. Now, I may have missed this, but what attitude? I didn't know he was a complainer. If he is, that's a shame, but that's not something I've come to expect from him.
It sounds like XPW is going through some major problems. That's sad, but to be honest, I've never caught one match that they've put on. They don't have the coverage, that I know of at least, in the eastern part of the U.S.
WWF Tough Enough is really a good show. If anyone hasn't seen this show, I'd heavily advise it. It's well worth your time. I really hope they do another season, it would really keep me interested. My man, Greg, is gone, he was freakin' awesome, too. He needs to be in the second season if his back is O.K.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. Can anyone send me any URLs on what the next generation Honda Accord will look like? I'm dieing to see some spy photos. I thank you in advance for any help.
And now, onto the column.
Is There Room to Compete?
Is there room to compete? A simple question with a not so simple answer. How many times have various independent promoters try and claim they can beat out the WWF? The list is as long as the line that forms for WWF tickets when they go on sale. The question; however, can Vince be taken down a notch for competition sake?
The answer, not any time soon, believe me. MECW, please. It doesn't sound like they are going to be a contendor for many years to come, which is understandable. It's just that there are many people that are saying they'll overtake the WWF. How? With who? I don't understand their logic on this one.
CZW. Here's a wrestling promotion that I caught on TV a few weeks ago and I was not impressed at all. Maybe it was just a bad TV taping, but it was really bad. I almost fell asleep watching it. There is no competion here nor will there be.
XPW. Well, here's a federation that I am very confused on. I thought they were doing well, but apparently they are losing their top talent. Losing guys like Sabu will only hurt you. Sabu draws people, because they never know what he's going to do next.
TCW. I believe that is Dusty Rhodes' promotion. It doesn't sound like his promotion will be doing it, either. That is sad, as Dusty is trying, but I don't think he'll get anywhere, as I'm sure if he starts to compete, Vince McMahon will buy him out.
Hogan's promotion. I don't even know if that promotion is even going to exist anymore. There are so many reports on the Internet about his promotion.
Those appear to be the American competitors. Now, according to Linda McMahon in a media montage last week, Linda stated that the WWF will be expanding to open a more global market in the upcoming years. While this is good, that means the WWF should put on more oversea shows. With that being said, what about competitors overseas?
I'm not too up on the Eurpoean professional wreslting scene, but I haven't heard of any serious competitors over in England and the such.
In Australia I know they have some tough independent leagues, thanks to a good friend of mine (whom, unfortunately I haven't talked to in a long time) Aussie Hammer. Aussie opened my eyes to the league of independent federations in Australia. And, while they put on a heck of a show, I don't think they have the financial backing needed to compete against Vince McMahon.
Then, what about the universal answer in professional wreslting, Japan? Japanese professional wreslting isn't as big as it used to be. With the WWF coming over and competing, that might be enough to give Japanese professional wrestling the shot of adrenaline that it needs. However, the financial backing may not be there, which is a shame.
Which means, where does this leave us? No where, that's where. The monopoly is here everyone, and its name is WWFE, fear it like you fear Microsoft, resistance may not be futile, but for the immediate future, it is.
Well, that will do it for this week. I hope you all have a safe and fun week. I will be back on the road starting, well, actually yesterday, so fun is here again. Joy. Well, until next week, join me as I try to, "educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling."
