WCW CLASSICS REPORT 8-27-2001

Here we go with another week of the Classics only on Turner South. Your host, as always, is the American Dream Dusty Rhodes.

Email from all over the world has come in about Wrestling #1 and Wrestling #2, they truly were classics. Tonight in the main event they will face off. Before we get there, we get a look at both of them.

--Mr. Wrestling #1 v. Chief Joe LightFoot. This is from October of 1983. Chief opens with an arm bar on #1. #1 reverses and Chief reverses again. #1 takes down Chief and has Chief in an arm bar after a beautiful fireman's carry. Chief locks a head scissors on #1 now. #1 kips out of the hold. Mr. Wrestling #2 is at ringside. #1 hits two elbows to the head of Chief, then hits a back breaker for a two count. #1 puts a bear hug on Chief. Chief breaks out but takes a big knee to his head. #1 is now unhappy #2 is at ringside as the referee starts to count out #1. Chief goes for the mask. Atomic drop by #1 on Chief. Snap mare takes #1 to the mat. Once again Chief goes for the mask. #1 hops to the outside and jumps on #2 and now we've got a brawl. Winner: Mr. Wrestling #1 by dq. Rating: 3/4

Classic clips shows us Mr. Wrestling #1 working over a random jobber.

--Mr. Wrestling #1 and Mr. Wrestling #2 v. Zane Smith and Bob Brown. This is from July of 1983. #1 starts out w/ Brown. #1 with a headlock, as he tags #2 who hits a big knee and locks in a chinlock. Brown battles back, but #2 ends his rally with a big forearm. #1 is tagged in. Big forearms by #1. By the way, Nick Patrick is the referee here. #1 has Brown on the mat in an arm bar. #2 is tagged in. Big knee lift by #1 as he stares at Smith. #1 is tagged in. Powerslam on Brown gets a two count as #2 is tagged in. Big back body drop and #1 is tagged in. #1 smacks Brown on the turnbuckle and tags in #2. #2 with a full arm drag and twist. Brown, amazingly, tags Smith. Smith doesn't get anything done though. #1 is tagged in and delivers a big elbow. Suplex by #1 gets a two count twice. Another big elbow by #1. #2 is tagged in. Head scissors applied b #2. Brown gets tagged by Smith. #2 and Brown now in the ring. Brown does nothing. Snap mare gets a two count. #1 is tagged in. Side suplex, but no pin attempt. Hip toss by #1 for a two count. #2 is tagged in and hits a big knee lift for the pin. Winners: Mr. Wrestling #1 and #2. Rating 1 1/4.

--Mr. Wrestling #1 v. Mr. Wrestling #2. This is from September of 1983. #2 applies a head scissors on #2. #1 forces a break by hooking the ropes. #2 with a wristlock on #1. Top wrist lock by #2. Test of strength won by neither. #1 now with several kicks then a snap mare on #2. #1 with an atomic drop that gets a two count. Body slam by #1, he goes to take the mask off of #2. #2 fights him off. Big boot by #2 on #1. #2 goes for #1's mask. Road Warriors run in the ring and attack #2. Mr. Wrestling #1 and the Road Warriors working over #2. Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, Ronnie Garvin and Bruno Sammartino Jr. hit the ring to save #2 and that's that. Winner: Mr. Wrestling #2 by dq. Rating: 3/4.
