![]() So many people have become convinced (and I do stress the word convinced) that the WWF has abandoned long term booking and have incorporated "booking by the fly" that they have become blinded to the obvious evidence that disproves them. The growing tension between the Alliance members has been perceived as "poor booking" by the internet fans. When Tazz received a beating from the Alliance and Austin on Monday only to come to Austin's aid on Thursday, everyone from Paul Heyman to Jim Ross to Stephanie McMahon was being blamed. When Stone Cold Steve Austin ripped apart the orange and black T-shirt that Tazz was wearing last Monday night, it was more than then a quarrel between their sense of fashion. While Austin may have been berate over the fact that Tazz was not partaking in the festivities of "Austin appreciation night", it left an underling message and hidden meaning that relatively few fans noticed. Austin's confrontation with Tazz last Monday was a glimpse into the long-term direction of the WWF, The Alliance and the wrestling industry. Slowly but surely the WWF is determined to establish The Alliance as a separate promotion. A promotion separate from the WWF, with its own television programming and pay-per-view events. Yet for this to come about the Alliance needs to showcase their stars as individuals, rather then a gang of heels who nod their heads and smile when the McMahon children speak. They need to have different motives driven by different goals. Over the course of a week, Tazz has gone from a full fledge heel with the Alliance to an underdog like character that will not back down from a scolding Austin. In the meantime Tazz seemingly has been prepared to become the first full-blown baby-face in the Alliance. It appears the WWF will tease a Tazz/Austin feud and give it more time to mature, which in return will give WWF fans an incentive to watch the Alliance promotion. Closing in on Tazz's popularity is Rob Van Dam. Again critics have blasted RVD and the WWF for his popularity despite being a member of the Alliance. Yet solidifying RVD as a fan favorite will do wonders for the Alliance in the long run. The reasoning behind the confrontation between Alliance members is not due to poor booking, it is due to the long term direction of the WWF and The Alliance. The WWF has just solidified a two-hour block of Saturday night programming on TNN. While it currently will house the new show, Excess, at any given time that time slot can be given to the Alliance. Despite what you may have been convinced about the booking off WWF programming, I assure you, the WWF has a firm grasp on it's long-term direction.
