Update on WWFE/DirecTV, MECW money problems, Collins/MECW, more Submitted by William Martinez on Thursday, August 23, 2001 at 3:05 PM EST
- Reportedly, WWFE and DirecTV have agreed to a new deal but nothing has been signed due to the current dispute. According to insiders covering the situation, a resolution between both sides is expected to happen due to the fact that both sides stand to lose over a million dollars for each pay-per-view event that does not air on DirecTV. In fact, it is expected that next month's Unforgiven will be airing on DirecTV.
- Several MECW wrestlers were scheduled to appear at an independent show in Evansville, Indiana but failed to do so because they were stranded at an airport. Apparently, when the wrestlers arrived at the airport, they discovered that their tickets had not been paid for and according to MECW owner/promoter John Collins, someone canceled the flights. However, it has since been learned that the travel agency did reserve tickets but canceled them due to the fact that no payment was received.
It has also been learned that at least one other travel agency in the Evansville area is owed a significant amount of money by the promotion and refuses to process anymore tickets until the payment is made. Several MECW wrestlers have also not been paid or have been paid with checks that have bounced.
- John Collins has also stated that he feels he is not cut out to run a wrestling promotion and will be stepping into the background in the near future. Collins will turning over the company to people like Tod Gordon.
