Big thanks to Phat Pharm's own ShaneOmack for the banner! Click HERE to go to the Phat Pharm and read his newest edition of Tables, Ladders, and Chairs now! (well read mine first then his..j/k) After spending the last two minutes trying to come up with a clever way to open this column I just gave up. Maybe by the time next week rolls along I'll be able to come up with something. I got a great response from last week's column. As a matter of fact the only complaint that I got was that it was too long so I guess I'm in good shape. A few of you emailed me and didn't get responses till Monday, and that is because my email server kind of messed up a bit, but everything is cool now. Ummmm I guess I should just shut the hell up now and write my column. Table Of Contents I - Short Comments on Debatable Issues A - New Smackdown! set B - Excess C - Milk does a promo good II - Keeping An Eye Open III - Main Topic - SummerSlam thoughts IV - Question Of The Week V - My Wrestling Wish List VI - Closing Comments Short Comments On Debatable Issues New Smackdown! set Like a lot of people I waited in anticipation for the new Smackdown! set to be revealed and I have to say it's terrible. Since when has a wrestling set supposed to resemble a movie set because that is what it looks like to me. They should have used this for a PPV set, but it's a little too elaborate to be a weekly show set. I do however like the sidebar when people come out. I think its cool seeing their titan tron video and such. I'm not too sure why they changed it because the old Smackdown! set was really cool, but oh well I'll get used to it. Excess Say it isn't so....not another 2 hours of wrestling a week!! Is it me or does the logo look like the now defunct XFL LA Extreme team logo? I'm going to be working this Saturday night so I guess I will tape the first episode and see what its like. Here is the WWF.com description of Excess "Hosted by sexy Federation diva Trish Stratus and the Coach, WWF Excess will be a two-hour interactive show that will allow Federation fans to e-mail or call in with questions for weekly special guests…WWF Excess will also feature highlights from the week's television programs, interviews with Superstars, as well as feature segments about other Federation activities." Didn't the WWF try the same damn thing when they started LiveWire? I'm curious to hear what HHH has to say and if he's going to be in character or not. If the first show is good I'll watch it if not I'll try to forget it's on. Milk Does a Promo Good Am I the only person on the planet that thought the whole final segment of Raw was extremely entertaining? The singing had me cracking up especially when the mic was being passed around. The little Austin head bouncy ball to follow the lyrics was great. Then if that wasn't enough enter Angle in a shiny new Milk Truck. I didn't know it was going to be a milk truck but I knew the WWF was going to bring something down to the ring because there was no ramp at all. Angle looked so damn goofy drinking the milk, but it was great. I thought it was smart writing to whoever decided to do this because of Austin doing it with beer in the past. This was definitely one of the most memorable moments ever on Raw. Keeping An Eye Open Keep an eye open for these things in wrestling soon 1. Booking of Unforgiven to begin 2. What HHH has to say on Excess 3. Who leaves/gets kicked off Tough Enough 4. Vince to officially announce WM 18 is in Toronto 5. What Ross says about no ladder matches for a while in his Ross Report 6. A possible return of Jerry Lawler 7. Will Saturn find Moppy? Does anyone care? 8. Tazz to turn on the Alliance 9. Austin to try and get his revenge on Angle for the milk Main Topic SummerSlam Thoughts I'm sure a good amount of you readers watched SummerSlam this weekend like myself. I know everyone has different opinions, but it seems that the consensus is that the WWF hit a homerun with this PPV. I would definitely have to agree most definitely. I know a lot of people would disagree, but the WWF really hasn't put on a bad PPV this year wrestling wise. Now booking/storyline wise that is a different story. Last year the WWF had streaks of 3 or 4 PPV's that were good then they slipped with a really crap PPV, but I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every PPV the WWF has put on thus far this year. I hope they can have continued success for the rest of the year because I honestly look forward to the end of every month. Hell I even take off of work for PPV's. (Yeah I know at age 17 taking off of work isn't really a big deal but I just added that to prove a point.) Well anyway here are my thoughts. The Good 1. Lance Storm Vs Edge was a great opener, and I really didn't expect for the crowd to take to it as well as they did. I knew the whole Christian thing was going to happen, but I didn't think it was going to be another one of those "oops" run-ins. I'm not too sure if these two will ever break up at this rate. Maybe next month? 2. For a match I really had low expectations for wrestling wise, the Dudley Boyz & Test vs. APA & Spike match impressed me. The match was very well worked and I really like the way they setup the Shane run-in and finished the story in the main event. I thought that was a well-booked plan. 3. I know I haven't been exactly nice to X-Pac in the past, and it's not because I jumped on the "I hate X-Pac bandwagon" (if such thing exists), but because for the last two years he hasn't shown me the same guy who could carried many a wrestler to a great match. Character wise I have always AND THE VINCE MEANS ALWAYS hated Sean Waltman. Talent wise I can't deny he's a good worker. On Sunday he showed me the Waltman of old and put on a really good match with Tajiri. I think Tajiri looked a little bit more stiff than usual especially with that baseball slide into the corner….damn that looked brutal. I wouldn't have gone with X-Pac winning, but the match was so good it's alright. 4. Booker T Vs The Rock was the main event, but I have mixed feelings whether or not it should have been. On one hand it is the Rock's first PPV since April, but on the other hand they gave this match away for free on Smackdown!. Of course they probably didn't want to end the PPV on a DQ so if they went with Austin Vs Angle as the main event with the same finish they probably would have a lot of made people. Anyway this match was really good. I didn't think the Rock would be able to put together a 20-minute match, but he did. He worked very well with Booker T and I wouldn't mind seeing this match one more time on PPV. For some reason that I really don't know why I liked the finish a lot. For the past few weeks they have been pushing the "Spinaroonie" and its only fit that Booker beat himself by doing it. Great tie in with the APA and Shane McMahon which I mentioned before. I think the only negative with this match is that if there is a rematch Rock has to win that one too so at the end of this feud Booker is going to be buried in the sand. 5. I called it last week when I said Stone Cold Vs Kurt Angle would be the match of the night and in my opinion I was correct. Its been said before many times by myself and others, but since Austin has come back from surgery he has been top notch. Seriously since 1998 he has been a sub-par wrestler due to all his injuries, and now he is reminding me of the Austin of old. The best part about this match is that Angle left it looking like a damn super hero. Kurt could have been pinned 1..2..3 in this match and he still would have left the match more over than when he came in. I know many people hated the finish, hell I hated the finish, but it does make sense. It is a shame though for such a great match to end in a DQ. Without a doubt this was the match of the night, and I look forward greatly to the rematch. 6. Paul Heyman and Jim Ross did an awesome job on commentary and that little scuffle after the Austin Vs Angle match was great. I know that 75% of their stuff is improvised and they work very well together. The matches seem that much better and important when these two are doing the commentary. I'm sure a majority of you would agree with that. The Bad 1. Debra and Stasiak in a backstage segment together…….nuff said 2. A match that I had high expectations for really didn't live up to them. This match is the Rhyno Vs Chris Jericho match. For some reason the two didn't quite gel with each other and the match was way below what the two are capable of doing. I know Jericho got a concussion after being gored on the outside of the ring, which looked sick by the way, so I guess there is an excuse in here. I can definitely see this being one of those long running feuds like HHH/Rock, and I know these two will meet again sooner than later. 3. Did a ladder really have to be involved in this match? Jeff Hardy is not going to be able to walk in a few years if he keeps this crap up. I know these two can have a great match without any gimmicks, but now the fans are conditioned to seeing Hardy in dangerous matches so the WWF gives in to the fans and books the matches. Whoever thought of that finish was a moron. No one could have pulled off that planned spot, and I'm surprised RVD didn't get hurt attempting it. At the end of the match JR said this could be the last ladder match we see in a long time, and I don't think he was saying that just for the hell of it. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't another for the rest of the year and I can't say I disagree. Before you waste your time sending me hate email because I talked bad about this match let me save you the trouble. To Vince RVD fu*king rules idiot. Kiss my ass and rot in hell. Your column sucks you asshole! Love RVD fan 420 4. Shane McMahon giving Booker the bookends. Seriously that was pointless and not funny at all. If your going to attempt comedy please make sure it's actually funny. The Ugly 1. That cage match sucked some serious nuts. I guess I really shouldn't even call this a match because it was just UT beating on DDP. I'm proud of the WWF for not turning Kane because it sure looked like he was going to. The worst part about this whole thing is that it didn't even end the feud……….total crap. And The Pointless 1. Shawn Stasiak constantly running into shit. After the first few times it was funny, and then after that it just got old. Hey at least its better than Meat! As a whole the show was definitely a thumbs up. It couldn't top the first three PPV's of the year, but its right behind them. Great job by pretty much everyone and I look forward to Unforgiven. Question Of The Week Last weeks question was really simple "How would you book SummerSlam" I got some good booking thoughts so it was hard to pick one. I used the close eyes and point method so here it is Mikeofreak wrote: If I could book any match it would be the Booker T. vs. The Rock match. It's been a good buildup and it should be great. Starting off I'd have Shane get the Rock's attention then Booker T. attack from behind and have the Rock punch Booker's ass off then they keep punching each other and Booker T. wins and hits a piledriver for a 1 count and then a sleeper. The Rock then does a neck breaker and a scoop slam. He attempts the people's elbow but Shane hits him with some object. Booker T. sets Rock up for a Superplex but the rock throws him off followed by grabbing the mic. imitating what Shane did whenever he does huge stunts followed by saying "I'm Shane McMahon the silver spoon mother fucker" then doing the elbow but he'd miss. They both get up and Shane gets the ref. depushed Alliance members come out and beat up the Rock. Some people from the WWF come out and a huge brawl starts. The Alliance seems to have the advantage when Rikishi and Haku come down and the WWF starts to have the advantage. Rikishi sets up Booker T. for the Stink Face but Haku does the Tongein Death Grip to Rikishi and Booker T. gives Rikishi a low blow and a Bookend "Rock Bottom" then Rock throws Haku out and gives Booker T. a Rock bottom followed by a People's elbow. Shane grabs the ref and hits him a WCW ref is coming but Vince knocks him down and Shane and Vince fight. Vince knocks shane out and gives Booker T. a low blow. The Rock delivers the Rock Bottom. Linda comes out with Mick Foley who makes the pin. This weeks question is "Do you have a PPV viewing ritual?" Do you gather a bunch of your friends at your house, dorm, or whatever and watch it. Do you sit there in front of a fuzzy TV and try to decipher what is going on? I want to know so send your responses to NYYanks24@Mediaone.net My Wrestling Wish List My list of things I wish happen in wrestling soon 1. Unforgiven booking starts NOW!! 2. This DDP/UT feud ends 3. No Ladder matches for a while 4. Josh wins Tough Enough 5. Little Guido gets signed by the WWF 6. Some PPV comes to Atlanta (I have given up on WrestleMania) 7. Ric Flair some how gets involved in this Invasion angle 8. Stephanie never sings again…..ever 9. ……maybe I should just come up with something else besides HBK return because my hopes of him coming back get smaller and smaller every week. ******************************* Hey people wasn't that fun? Ok everyone out there listen to me and download some songs by the band Tenacious D. This is Jack Blacks band. For those who don't know who Jack Black is by name he is the chubby guy on Saving Silverman, the pothead in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the guy who gets his arm blown off in the Jackal, etc. Trust me he's hilarious and Tenacious D is some good stuff. Look for a new DVD review next week. As for this week I'm done.
