WWFE/DirecTV deal expiring, Rock's return sets TNN record, and more

    - WWFE's deal with DirecTV to broadcast their pay-per-view will be up in August, with August 19th's Summerslam being their last event. As of right now, no new deal between the two has been reached. This is one of the main reasons that the WWF stock took such a plunge today.

    - Last week's episode of WWF Smackdown! finished as the 64th highest rated primetime network program for the week of July 23-29, according to Neilsen Media Research. On the list of 140 programs, Smackdown finished tied with CBS' "48 Hours".

    The Return of the Rock On 'Raw Is War' Delivers 7.6 Million Viewers To TNN On Monday, July 30


    NEW YORK, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- TNN: THE NATIONAL NETWORK'S telecast of the World Wrestling Federation's RAW IS WAR on Monday, July 30 (9:00-11:08 PM, ET/PT) was the network's most watched telecast in its 18-year history, with 7.6 million viewers tuned in. The telecast peaked in its final segment with 9.2 million viewers watching the triumphant return of WWF Superstar The Rock.

    RAW IS WAR also delivered to TNN its highest household rating in 2001 to date. The two-hour telecast achieved a 5.68 rating, up 15% from the average-to-date since the series launched on TNN in September 2000. More than 4.6 million homes -- a new record for TNN -- tuned in. The largest growth was among male teens 12-17, which attracted an unprecedented 12.35 rating, up 35% over the season-to-date average. The telecast delivered an impressive 37 share among male teens.

    - This week's Lycos 50 Bonus List were the "Top Williams" searched in the Lycos search engine. Bill Goldberg was #3. Only William Shakespeare and Prince William ranked ahead of the former WCW champion.
