WWF News from a Jim Ross conference call, and Trish/Lita note Submitted by Mr. Tito on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at 5:21 PM EST
Here are a few news and notes from a conference call by Jim Ross with reporters today:
-Ross said that it was only half true that the WWFE would be releasing talent, to what extent that means. Talent not used, like a few in OVW or WCW wrestlers who the WWF won't be using now will be cut.
-JR mentioned that he's under the impression that the bankruptcy court is perfectly fine with the use of ECW in the storylines for WWF television.
-The WWF apparently still has long term plans to run 2 separate brands on the Monday or Thursday night timeslots, but it won't happen in the near future.
-Ross stated that the real reason why Chyna is no longer with the WWF is because she wanted way too much money on her new deal. As for Chyna's Women's title... Nothing has been set in stone for what to do with that belt, but there could possibly be a tournament in the future.
-The WWF has no idea on who will commentating with Ross at Invasion. Ross did say that the door is apparently open for Jerry Lawler, but that the King has some personal issues to deal with first, to whatever that means.
-There are no plans to bring in Shawn Michaels anytime soon, as it's been reported earlier.
-Ross mentioned that the Rock could show up in late July or early August, again, as reported earlier, but he did tease that the Great One could return next week!
-Mike Sanders will apparently be brought in as some form of an announcer on WWF television.
-JR hyped that Invasion will have around 10 to 11 matches on the card.
-Al Snow, who filled in for the ECW turned Tazz, will continue to host Heat on a regular basis now.
-Scott Steiner is expected to sign with the WWF sometime soon!
-Interestingly enough, Jim Ross mentioned that Invasion could be a "trainwreck" because many of the wrestlers on the card haven't worked together, ever.
-Ross confirmed that the WWF has no interest in the Sandman, as it has been reported earlier.
-JR mentioned that the WWF has continually had talks with guys like Sting, Bill Goldberg, and Ric Flair, but that they won't sign due to monetary factors, as it's well known already.
