Wildlife group in legal wrestle over WWF initials

07/18/2001 - LONDON (Reuters) - The Worldwide Fund for Nature, formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund, on Wednesday began a legal grapple with the World Wrestling Federation over the use of the initials WWF.

The wildlife group is seeking an order from London's High Court to prevent the popular U.S. wrestling promoter, World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc, from breaching a written agreement between the parties made in 1994.

The agreement placed a series of restrictions on the Federation's use of the letters WWF for the purposes of its business, which the Fund now claims it has breached.

But the Federation is fighting the claim, arguing that the restrictions are void because they are a restraint on trade and contrary to European law.

It argued before Justice Robin Jacob that adhering to the prohibitions in the agreement would seriously inhibit its ability to carry on its business effectively.

The legal tussle over the initials is expected to last three days.

Regarding the earlier post about Goldberg filming a guest role in the new NBC comedy "Scrubs".

I've seen the commercial promos for this show on NBC and thought that the guy jumping up from a hospital bed and screaming at the top of his lungs was Goldberg. With this post, I'm now sure that it's him. Watch NBC and you're bound to see it. It runs mostly at night. I'm guessing Goldberg plays a hospital patient that goes berserk, at least from the looks of that clip.

On a unrelated note, the WWF is still promoting Chyna. I subscribe to their Full BodyPress newsletter and the issue I received last night had an ad in it for Chyna's book.

    OVW TV Taping
    7/18/01
    Aaron "Lurch" Wilson

-The show opened off with the entrance of Dean Hill and WWF's
Kevin Kelley. Jim Cornette is currently sidelined because of
his recent surgery, which according to OVW TV happend because
of a beating at the hands of some unknown men immediately
after the interview on this past weeks OVW TV Show with OVW's
Owner Danny Davis. We all wish him a speedy recovery. At the
top of the show OVW Announcer Dean Hill announced that next weeks
Television taping at the Davis Arena will feature Molly Holly,
Jerry Lynn and Dean Malenko. Be sure to check back next week
to hear what happend with these three WWF stars at the OVW TV
    Tapings.

-Randy Orton & Bobby Eaton vs. Jason Lee & Derrick King
-This was overall a decent match with Orton pulling off
most of the offense for his team. The crowd was really
into Orton but for some reason not so into Eaton. I
admit Eaton did not look his strongest today. The match
was overall very high paced with both Lee and King getting
thrown ten feet into the air on numerous occasions. The
match ended at Orton picked up the pinfall and the win.
-Winners Randy Orton & Bobby Eaton via pinfall

    -Brian Keck vs. Damaja
    http://www.thedamaja.com
    DARK MATCH
-Overall a good match with Keck showing some improvement.
I'm glad to see that for once he is not overdoing his
"Massive Head as a Weapon" gimmick. The match wasn't too
long with Damaja pulling off a quick schoolboy rollup and
    the win.
    -Winner Damaja via pinfall

-Next was an entertaining interview segment featuring Kevin
Kelley in the ring joined by Kenny "the King" Bolin, Prototype,
and Rico "the Role Model" Costatino. The local crowd really
seems to hate Rico as the "Rico Sucks" chant echos all the way across
the river back to Louisville from the fans at Davis Arena. I
missed some of this interview but it ended up setting up a match
for Friday July 27 at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom squaring off
Rico and Prototype against Bobby Eaton and Randy Orton. The three
individuals Rico, Prototype and Bolin really seem to be getting along
great with Rico even giving "his dad" (Kenny Bolin) a great big
    hug.

-Matt Stryker & Pepper Parks vs. Payne & Damien w/ Synn & Connie Swail
    http://www.bjpayne.com
-This was overall one of the better matches of the night with
the two new lightweights from Les Thatcher's HWA really pulling
off all the stops. I was very impressed by this great tag team,
although I must honestly say that from an OVW perspective, I have
no clue what their actual characters are. The match was very
fast paced and ended pretty quick with Payne pulling off a top
rope move that I haven't seen in quite some time, the Frog Splash
    to pick up the win.
-Winners Payne & Damien via pinfall

-Mike Hard vs. Ron "H2O" Waterman
    DARK MATCH http://www.ronwaterman.com
-This dark match was actually also one of the better matches of
the night in my opinion. Mike Hard of the "Revolution" pulled
off just about every heel tactic in the book, from running out
of the ring after ever move Waterman did, to poking him in the
eye blatantly right in front of the ref, even going as far as
distracting the ref so he could kick H2Oman in the groin in a
very blatant low blow. The crowd really loved Waterman but
hated Hard. The match ended as Hard got his leg caught by
Waterman and went for the Insegurie, Waterman ducked and put
him in the ankle lock submission making Hard quickly "Tap Out!"
-Winner Ron "H2O" Waterman via submission

    -Brian Keck vs. Flash
-This match never actually took place. Keck was introduced to the
ring first then Flash. Flash then got on the microphone and
explained how the WWF "screwed" him and how he should have
won a Full WWF Contract for beating Chris Jericho at the Last
Dance and not some "cheap" Developmental Contract. He then
refused to fight in front of the local Davis Arena crowd unless
they were paying high prices for tickets.

    -No Match

-Chris Michaels & Sean Casey vs. Johnny Spade & Sly Scraper
-Overall an excellent tag team match. The team of Michaels
and Casey are tremendous tag team in my opinion. Sly Scraper
is showing some improvement as well coming off of knee surgery
a few months back. The match was fairly high paced with some
excellent tag team work shown by both teams, well until the
end that is. Spade pulled something out of his pocket and
loaded his glove. He then went to hit Casey but he ducked
and accidentally hit Sly. Michaels and Casey then clear the
ring of Spade and deliver a double superkick to Sly picking
    up the pinfall.
-Winners Chris Michaels & Sean Casey via pinfall

-Rob Conway vs. Machine w/ Johnny Spade
    TV MAIN EVENT
-Well the question as to who Machine is, was finally answered
at the Last Dance and was revealed to be non other than Danny
Davis' own nephew, Doug Basham. He then went on to say last week
on OVW TV that he was still going to wear his mask because he
was too ashamed of his family. The match was overall a fairly
decent TV Main Event and as all Doug Basham matches extremely
technical. About halfway through the match Spade gets on the
ring apron distracting the ref just as Conway pulls off a what
would be three count, obviously upsetting the "Ironman", eventually
Machine pulls off a cheapshot and gains the pinfall picking up
the win. After the bell Nick Dinsmore ran out and tried to convince
Senior Referee Robert Briscoe what happend but ended up in a brawl
with Machine. Nick then pulls off a Bulldog and German Suplex as
Conway counts his own three count for Nick. Next the rest of the
"Revolution" runs in outnumbering Dinsmore and Conway after a good
thirty seconds of being out numbered Damaja and Mark Henry clear
the ring of the Revolution as the cameras go off the air.
    -Winner Machine via pinfall
