World Wrestling Federation's Mick Foley to Host TNN's Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors 'NFL Under the Helmet' Co-Host Rebecca Grant to Report From the Pit NEW YORK, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mick Foley -- best known to millions of World Wrestling Federation fans as the ousted Commissioner and the deranged ``Mankind'' -- will step outside the ring for a revolutionary new sport, when he becomes the host of TNN'S ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS. Foley will tape six episodes of the series at the state-of-the-art post-apocalyptic Robot Wars arena, where U.S. robots will battle gladiatorial style, and confront the specially designed, and dangerously equipped Robot Wars' ``house bots'' -- including Sir Killalot, Sgt. Bash, Shunt, Dead Metal and the metal diva, Matilda. Rebecca Grant, co-host of the FOX series ``NFL Under The Helmet,'' will serve as Pit Reporter for TNN'S ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS. ``Mick Foley is the perfect host for TNN ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS,'' says Diane Robina, Executive Vice President and General Manager, TNN. ``He's beloved by World Wrestling Federation fans, and is a natural to host this high octane robot battle, featuring house robots that develop as characters -- much like the many characters of World Wrestling Federation.'' TNN'S ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS will be telecast on TNN beginning Monday, August 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) as the lead-in programming to WWF RAW IS WAR, cable's highest rated series. TNN will also telecast 23 episodes of the popular British Robot Wars series in the same time slots. Battling robots have been cited by Newsweek as the ``first sport to break into popular culture in the new century.'' ROBOT WARS was the first to create the battling robot craze in California in the early 1990's, premiered on British television four years ago, and is now a hit series in 16 countries, including Britain, Sweden, Italy and Germany. TNN'S ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS is produced by Mentorn, the creators of the original ROBOT WARS series and the U.K.'s largest independent producer. Tom Gutteridge and Stephen Carsey serve as Executive Producers. TNN is bringing original episodes of the ROBOT WARS series to U. S. television for the first time, featuring U.S. teams that design and build radio-controlled fighting machines and battle it out to see whose robot is supreme. The participating robotic warriors come from all over the United States, from Long Island, N. Y. to Pembroke Pines, Fl. to Provo, Utah to San Jose, Ca. TNN's all new version of ROBOT WARS features American competitors in six distinct episodes, created exclusively for TNN. Each program will contain different challenges and events, for episodes titled ``Tag Team Terror,'' ``American Civil War,'' ``The Annihilator,'' ``Robot Rebellion,'' and ``The Extreme Warriors U.S. Championship.'' Foley is one of the most respected competitors in the history of the World Wrestling Federation. A native of Long Island, Foley has penned ``The New York Times'' best-seller, ``Have a Nice Day,'' and the recently released ``Foley is Good.'' Rebecca Grant, co-host of the FOX series ``NFL Under The Helmet,'' will serve as Pit Reporter for TNN'S ROBOT WARS: EXTREME WARRIORS. Grant, an avid sports enthusiast, started her career in sports broadcasting as host/correspondent for ``The Buffalo Bills NFL Show.'' Her sports broadcasting career has included on-air stints at ESPN and Fox Sports and had had numerous appearances on various entertainment series including NBC's ``Providence,'' ``Third Rock From the Sun'' and the Game Show Network's ``Throut and Neck.'' Coast to coast, TNN is connecting Adults 18-49 to the tops in pop culture such as the World Wrestling Federation's RAW IS WAR, cable's top-rated series. SOURCE: TNN Credit: Yahoo! News Mike McCaw sent in the following rumors from the August 2001 WWF Magazine Informer section: - Apparently The Informer overheard Kurt Angle speaking to someone with a deep voice saying, " If we can just get CHRIS, we'll be ready to go. FUNAKI is on board, E&C are gung-ho, TERRI is cash, and SNOW says that PATTERSON and BRISCO have signed on. Chris is the linchpin though, and if he comes on board, we'll be all set." The Informer stated we might know by SummerSlam what this all means, and it all depends on Chris. (There is a large picture of Chris Jericho in the article, which might be a clue.) - The Informer hints that "a VERY BIG MAN might drop his best friend and align himself with Mr. McMahon." According to the Informer, "a certain devious individual who likes beaches and Intercontinental Championships has come up with an offer that this GOLIATH could not refuse." - The Informer caught X-PAC and DEAN MALENKO discussing while having dinner at WWF New York, with a great deal of laughing going on. The Informer goes on to question if "they will still be laughing when WILLIAM REGAL informs them of his plans for the fall?" - The WWF Women's Division might see two or three newcomers in the next few weeks, and none of them was wrestling in the fifties. - Speaking of newcomers, The Informer mentions "everyone knows that TIGERS are ANTI-SOCIAL animals. So your guess is as good as mine as to what's going to happen when TWO tigers are put in the same ring at the same time." - The Informer states that TEST might be in LOVE, and if these two hook up, both may soon be wearing GOLD, and not the type that goes on a finger. - "Is BOB HOLLY receiving offers from NASCAR? There has been a RAINBOW WARRIOR who's made it clear that he wants in the WWF." - The Informer states that "FOUR SCORE MONTHS AGO someone burst onto the Federation scene and made an immediate IMPACT. By the IDES of DECEMBER, he will be a CHAMPION!" - Finally, The Informer questions "could we be seeing TOOTHPICKS in Federation matches any time soon?" (Scott Hall perhaps?)
