![]() This week I propose the question, "Who do you consider to be the most under-appreciated wrestling in the industry" E-mail me with your opinions and I will post various responses next week. Last week I asked the question, "What titles should the 'new' WCW recognize when they begin production?" When production seized on WCW, five titles were in circulation, World championship, United States, Crusierweight, Tag Team and Cruiserweight tag team champions. Previous titles, such as the Television and Hardcore championships have been faded out, yet could possible be brought back. If and when WCW restarts as a separate federation from the WWF, I truly feel it would best if only three titles were recognized. Those three titles would be the World championship, United States and the Tag Team titles. When more then four titles are in circulation it is common for the title hunt for the respective titles to become a blur. Considering the feud that will brew between WCW and the WWF, the three titles would simplify everything. WCW champion vs WWF Champion, US champion vs Inter-Continental champion and WCW Tag Team champions vs WWF Tag Team champions. Then again that's my opinion. Below are just a few responses that I have received on the topic. Submission from Anju Rao They obviously need to recognize the WCW Heavyweight Championship Title for main-event purposes and to have a recognizable name for the WCW product as a whole. With regards to the Cruiserweight tag titles and the heavyweight tag titles, I think that they should be merged into one cohesive belt called the World Tag Team Titles. This will give the opportunity to cruiserweights to broaden their horizons by working matches against bigger opponents and vice versa. A merged tag title situation will allow matches to include such participants as the Jung Dragons vs. Palumbo & O'Haire or Elix SKipper and Storm vs. Buff and Kanyon. The possibilities would be endless for the Tag titles situation. Since the "new WCW" has gone to the lengths of acquiring of focusing on mostly cruiserweights they can focus on the World Tag Titles to add credibility to that style of wrestling rather than the big bruisers. Overall, WCW can function with three titles and should focus on that instead of becoming a mirror of the WWF, which I think it never was and it never should be. The US, World Tag Titles and World Championship are enough to add a sense of hierarchy in the federation while at the same time not becoming too much for the average viewer to handle. Too many titles just convolute storylines and angles in the long run. Submission from Jacob Zessin I think they should really rely on the main three titles, (World, US and Tag Team) because if you've noticed the Cruiserweight is like the WWF's Light heavyweight, it seems to disappear for months then come back in for a month and phase out. Its never used to its full potential. It's just for starting there shows off, and make it a title just to have so they can mix it up. Besides that, there isn't a whole lot of competition in the Light heavyweight divisions. Just recently has there been a bunch of high flyers, because over the last couple years they have been scarce. But look at WCW 5 or 6 years ago, overrun by high flyers and the Cruiserweight title matches were exciting to watch. I guess it all really depends on if they have the talent to carry on the Cruiserweight division, and if the people like it. Now, as for the Hardcore title, I'm not sure. WCW's never really been a hardcore company, they've never put on a good hardcore match in my mind unless they had like Raven and them guys around. Now they are all over in the WWF, and all of WCW's talent seems like guys who are afraid to take chair shots. WCW has always been a very old school type of federation, and I think it will stay that way no matter what. Either way, hopefully it works out good. Submission from Mike Frost I think that in the new WCW, they should have at least 4 titles... if not 5. World, Tag, and US are a given, but with all the Cruiserweight Talent that they have, I think the Cruiserweight title is a must. However, that title can easily be substituted for the re-emerging TV title. WCW could really pull something off by not labeling their guy's cruiserweights all the time and pair them fighting regular guys too. I mean Lance Strom won the CW title... and Benoit used to be known as one too. By using the TV title instead... you don't label the title for one type of wrestler.... besides I think Shane helms would make a much better TV champ than a Cruiserweight. And I hope to god they leave the hardcore title in the trash where it belongs. Submission from Stan Of course the World, World Tag, and U.S. will make it, but that is not the question. The TV title on the other hand, should be kept. The TV title, if used correctly, can be a good stepping-stone from rookie to young hot talent. It'll be a good device to create storylines amongst the roster not viaing for the World or US titles. The Cruiserweight Tag Titles is very iffy. On one hand, having Cruiserweight tag matches almost every show could provide some amazing segments. On the other hand, I could see it getting old rather quickly. I think it's a better idea to drop the Cruiserweight Tag Titles. It's still very possible to book Cruiserweight tag matches once in a while, which will keep the idea fresher and more appealing. Once again I remind you that this week I propose the question, "Who do you consider to be the most under-appreciated wrestling in the industry" E-mail me with your opinions and I will post various responses next week.
