Breaking The Walls Down
Hello everyone and welcome back to the returning Breaking The Walls Down. I have been gone for two weeks because I severely cut up my left hand in a stupid accident at home. And, as you can imagine, that left me with only one hand to type with, so I asked Calvin if I could put the column on hold until my hand healed enough so I can type and he said sure. Once again, thanks Calvin for being patient. Anyway, the demand is there, so I will continue with the storyline invasion. But first, onto Bits and Pieces.
Bits and Pieces
Here's a plug for one of the greatest comedy sites on the internet. WrestleCrap.com is a hilarious site that everyone who loves professional wrestling should check out. Without a doubt a five star site. click here to check it out.
I received some e-mails about the whole TNN situation. It seems that it really varies from cable provider to cable provider. This, of course, is well known, however it just seems to be my luck that I stay at a hotel without TNN. Someone e-mailed me and told me that he doesn't get TNN, but someone down the road from him does. It just so happens they have two different kinds of cable providers.
Congratulations to the WWF for totally surprising me with the addition of D.D.P. to the King of the Ring. I did not see that coming at all, actually. I am intrigued by this and I hope that The Undertaker is not used to put D.D.P. over in the sense of having D.D.P. win all the matches, but rather have The Undertaker get D.D.P. over in another way by showing everyone, once again, how tough D.D.P. really is.
Wish I could see King of the Ring, but I'll either be on a plane to Boston or in Boston trying to figure out how to get to my hotel. That sounds like so much fun, at least it's supposed to be the last major trip for this project.
And now, onto the column.
The Invasion Continues
We left off in the last column with Heyman challenging McMahon to a PPV entitled "Invasion". McMahon, after some prodding, accepted and with that we faded to commercial. The scene is now at the PPV. It's main event time. A first in both federation history. A Hell in a Cell match. But, not just any Hell in a Cell match, it's a Hell in a Cell match with a scaffold surrounding the inside of the cage. The cage has been made taller and the scaffold runs along the wall of each cell (it does not cross over the ring, but rather runs alongside the walls of the cell approximately eight to ten feet above the ring), making the cell appear to have a very narrow walkway around almost the top of the cell. The combatants are Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. R.V.D. and The Sandman.
The fans have been given the choice to either buy a WWF PPV or an ECW PPV. Both PPV's will be run like normal, announced by the normal announcers. That way, the fans may show their allegiance. The PPV has been nothing but non-stop action. The Philly crowd is hot, and for good reason. And, to top it off, the wrestlers came to the PPV jacked, but since the crowd has been so hot, they (the wrestlers) have been elevating their game that much more. And now, it's main event time.
As expected, the main event has been brutal. We've seen R.V.D. do moves from the scaffold structure onto either Triple H or Austin that defy description. We've seen Triple H give an elbow drop off the scaffold structure onto The Sandman who was on two tables, thus causing the tables to shatter everywhere. Austin has been caned severely by The Sandman, and, in return, Triple H has beaten the snot out of The Sandman with a 2x4 wrapped in real barbed wire. The men are a bloody mess. There'll be no reports on the Internet the next day about wrestlers holding back. They'll be no reports that wrestlers were upset with the finish. Here are the last few minutes of the match.
Triple H is a bloody mess. His sweat-soaked, blonde hair is stained a rust-like color thanks to his blood. Triple H is on one side of the ring laying in the corner. R.V.D. signals that he's "The Whole F'N Show" and climbs the cage and gets on top of the scaffold structure on the other side of the ring. The crowd is at a fever pitch. R.V.D. looks at Triple H, Triple H can't see thanks to the blood and R.V.D. leaps from the scaffold and connects with the most horrendous VanTerminiator you'll ever see. But, due to the sheer force of the impact, R.V.D. does a backward roll and lays on his stomach, lucky to be alive. Both men are out and it's down to Austin and The Sandman. Both men get back into the ring, each checking on their partner. The Sandman pulls out a cold one (well maybe not so cold by this time in the match) from his pocket and tosses it to Steve. Then, The Sandman pulls out another cold one and he gives the gesture "Here's to ya" and drinks it down. Austin does the same, but while Austin finishes the beer and throws the can aside (as does The Sandman), The Sandman walks right up to Austin and spits the remainder of the beer in Austin's face, blinding Austin and infuriating him at the same time.
Both men lock up and begin to brawl. Austin lays in some right hands and beats The Sandman down in the corner. Austin continues his stomping and knocks The Sandman out of the ring. The Sandman crawls under the ring and comes out the other side with a Singapore Cane. While this is happening, Austin grabs a chair and waits for The Sandman to come back. The Sandman enters the ring and stares at Austin. Austin yells some sort of profanity at The Sandman and runs towards him, swinging the chair. The Sandman steps to the side and swings the cane, WHACK!
Austin is cracked over the skull and just starts to wobble where he stands. Crack, again with the cane. Austin's down to one knee. Both men are obviously tired. They're both staggering. One more time and Austin's laying down on his stomach. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven more cracks to Austin's back. Austin's back is welting very nicely at this point. This is followed by The Sandman picking Austin up and giving him two D.D.T.'s, as well. At this point in time, the cane is broken, so The Sandman goes for the chair Austin tried to use on him. The Sandman lifts the chair over his head and out of no where a low blow by the half conscious Triple H saves Austin from the brutal beating. The Sandman goes down and Triple H lays the chair down in the center of the ring. He goes to the outside and grabs a bag from underneath the ring. After Triple H gets back in the ring and stands in the center of the squared circle, he makes a "Bang-Bang" gesture and the crowd is confused.
Triple H pours the contents of the bag onto the steel chair, thumb tacks, hundreds of thumbtacks. Triple H then walks over to R.V.D., slaps him in the face, and then picks up R.V.D and sends him to the outside of the ring. Triple H goes to the outside as well and gets a mic. Following this, Triple H grabs a hold of The Sandman, brings him over to the center of the ring where the chair and thumbtacks await and holds him there. Triple H gets on the mic and says, "You ECW stars and fans say 'ECF'NW". Well, we say 'F*$K ECW'." The crowd boos loudly and Triple H kicks The Sandman in the stomach and delivers the Pedigree to The Sandman on top of the chair with the thumbtacks.
The tiny needles puncture The Sandman's face and body. Blood starts to pour from various parts of The Sandman. Triple H starts laughing and begins to clear the thumbtacks that aren't in The Sandman from the ring so he can cover The Sandman. But, as Triple H does this, he doesn't notice R.V.D. once again ascending the cage and to the scaffold. The crowd begins to roar and Triple H says into the mic, "You jackasses finally decided to come around and smarten up. If Austin were conscious right now I'm sure he'd be happy. But, as it stands, we still hate all ECW supporters so you can all kiss our asses." With that, Triple H goes for the pin.
One, two, The Sandman kicked out! The crowd goes nuts and Triple H can't believe it. Triple H is right above The Sandman and The Sandman gives him one heck of a low blow. Triple H bends over in pain and The Sandman grabs the mic that has fallen and landed by his shoulder and barely stands up. The Sandman is a sight to be seen. He can barely stand, blood is everywhere and the lights are not just shining off of his sweat and blood, but the thumbtacks that riddle his body, as well. The Sandman then says into the mic, "This is for E.C.F'NW." And, with that, he D.D.T.'s Triple H onto the chair that has been cleaned of the thumbtacks. The crowd is rabid with the anticipation of The Sandman pinning Triple H. With that, The Sandman looks up and sees R.V.D. now on the scaffold. The Sandman drags Triple H over to the side opposite where R.V.D. is standing and says, "F*$k the WWF, ECW is back to stay."
And with that, R.V.D. leaps off the top of the scaffold, tucks his arms and legs in and then brings them back out. It's a Five Star Frog Splash off the top of the scaffold onto a half conscious Triple H below. R.V.D. bounces off of Triple H and lays in the ring next to a now somewhat conscious Austin. The Sandman makes the cover.
One, two, three! The Sandman covers Triple H and picks up the win for himself, his partner, his boss, ECW's fans, and ECW itself. The Sandman picks up R.V.D. and holds his arms up to celebrate. They both face one side of the arena with their arms raised, with R.V.D. in obvious pain. They go on to celebrate for a few minutes, not realizing Austin is gaining consciousness. Then, from behind, Austin nails both of them with the chair Triple H was DDT'd onto. Austin proceeds to beat the snot out of both men, while Triple H is still unconscious. In the back mass chaos erupts as tension has been building all night. The ECW locker room empties into the back as does the WWF's. Both locker rooms empty into a mass free-for-all in the back.
The camera is back to the ring with Austin attacking both men. The beating is getting pretty brutal with Austin focusing the attack on their backs. The crowd is at a fever pitch booing Austin. Austin is playing the crowd up and is egging them on by flicking them off and yelling at them. Then, the lights go off. When the lights come back on, Austin's in the ring with The Sandman and R.V.D. at his feet, and Triple H laying in the ring, but they're not alone anymore.
Booker T, Scott Steiner, Lance Storm, and Shane McMahon are standing in the ring, one in each corner of the ring. No one is around to save Austin, since the whole back is in a riot. But, instead of attacking just Austin, the four men attack Austin, Triple H, R.V.D., and The Sandman. The show ends with Shane McMahon getting on the mic and announcing WCW is under new ownership and you're looking at the new owner. With that, the PPV fades to black.
That is where I'll leave it for this week. I'll pick it up next week where it's revealed exactly what's going on with Shane McMahon and the WCW wrestlers. And, what does Vince McMahon think about his son owning WCW when he was in negotiations with them and what does Paul Heyman think of these new turn of events?
