Thanks to Jeff Wilen for sending this report in!

Results from the Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling show at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in DeLand, Fla., Dec. 28, 2001:

First match: Lex Lovett def. Steve Madison with a modified DDT.

Second match: Jorge Estrada def. Lethal Luther Biggs with a high cross body press off the top rope.

Third match: Buck Q def. Spanky Malone with a backdrop suplex off the middle rope, followed up by a legdrop onto Malone from the top rope.

    Intermission.

Fourth match: NWA Tag Title Match, Heavenly Bodies (NWA Champions) vs. Glacier and Jason Sugarman. This was by far the worse match of the night, as it lasted over 30 minutes. Glacier (former WCW wrestler) did little too impress. Most of the match time was killed with stall tactics by the Heavenly Bodies. To make matters worse, Glacier and Sugarman won the titles as Glacier rolled up one of the Bodies from behind for the pin (of all the moves).

Fifth match: TCW Title Match, Scotty Riggs (Champion) vs. Barry Windham. Windham got decent pops, and dished out his usual arsenal of sleepers, figure fours, suplexes and trademark punches. At the end of this match, Windham (I think) was thrown into the referee. Riggs pulled out a foreign object and tried to use it on Windham. Windham ducked, grabbed the foreign object which had fallen on the ground, laid out Riggs and got the pin to win the match. However, for some reason, a veteran of so many years in the ring in Windham kept the foreign object in his hand the whole time. Barry, what are you thinking? The referee saw it in Windham's hand, and Windham's chance at the TCW title went straight down the toilet. Riggs won by disqualification on Windham to retain his title.

Sixth (final match): ECW vs. TCW (Steve Corino and Jack Victory vs. The American Dream Dusty Rhodes and The Lonestar Dustin Rhodes. Corino came out first. He cut a great promo on a guy at ringside, saying how he came to the matches with his boyfriend. The guy next to the guy getting cut on stood up. Corino then said something to the extent of how his boyfriend was standing up for him. Then, he went on about who the catcher was, etc. Great stuff. Then, Corino's partner came out dressed as and announced as Golddust. Golddust came to the ring with Danny V. Rose (spelling?), who was carrying a briefcase. I'm not sure if it was Victory as Golddust. It was difficult to tell, but I'm assuming it was. The Rhodes then came out together. Corino took one hell of a blade job in this match. He had the crimson mask going. There was blood all over his face. Dustin and Dusty had slight blade jobs -- either that or it was from wrestling the bloody Corino. Dusty was rammed with the briefcase and thrown into a table. Not much offense from him. Dustin won with some kind of knee face drop which led to the pin.

Final thoughts: The card originally had seven matches, with Spanky Malone vs. Bruiser Layton and Buck Q vs. Sonny Siaki. I'm guessing Siaki and Layton were no-shows. According to the TCW souvenir book, Dustin Rhodes is the No. 1 contender for Riggs' belt. Riggs is pictured with Daffney; I'm not sure if it's the Daffney from WCW or not. I'm guessing it is, as it kind of looks like her. Dusty is pictured with Nature Toy Robin Denise. The ring announcer's name is Miss Holbrook. She has a few talents, if you know what I mean. Also, according to the TCW souvenir book, a few TCW stars made it into the WWF's Tough Enough 2 tryouts in Las Vegas. Miss Galaxy Kim Neilsen, Joey C and Jason Sugarman made the top 25. From what I saw from Sugarman tonight, he has the "look" of a future star. TCW's website is www.dustyrhodes.net. All in all, not a bad show, for something like this. For all of the columnists that bitch, whine and complain about the current state of wrestling, they should go to one of these shows. It'd make them appreciate the WWF so much more.

    Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling
    House show, December 28, 2001
    Deland, Florida
    Report by Jimmy Miller

    RESULTS:

Dusty and Dustin Rhodes d. Steve Corino and Goldust (?)
Scotty Riggs d. Barry Windham by DQ to retain the TCW Heavyweight Title
Glacier and Jason Sugarman d. The Heavenly Bodies to win the NWA Tag Title
"Iceman" Buck Q d. Spanky Malone
    Jorge Estrada d. Luther Biggs
    Lex Lovett d. Steve Madison

    HIGHLIGHTS:

The main event was a streetfight with lots of blood and lots of action. Everyone but the fake Goldust bladed, especially Corino. Riggs brought in a taped popsicle stick but Windham took it away and used it to win. The ref found it in his hand and DQ'd him. The Heavenly Bodies were very funny as they worked the crowd with insults, cheap shots, and self-deprecating humor. One of the Bodies, at one point, threw Glacier into a guardrail that this little boy was hanging on. Fortunately, I caught him as he rode the rail back to the seats. Luther Biggs got the crowd to chant "Chubby" at him all through his match. He responded by calling them "faggots." At one point he even called me a faggot, but when I told him my kids would take him, he seemed to back off.

The atmosphere at the TCW show was not unlike the old days when I was a kid going to NWA shows at Orlando Sports Stadium. There's very little aerial work but there's a huge emphasis on psychology, which meant a few more restholds and slower action than a WWF crowd would expect. This crowd, however, got into the show in a big way. All the matches went over 20 minutes except the opener, but all the wrestlers kept the crowd into the action the whole way through. Attendance was right around 200, but considering the almost total lack of promotion, it was more than I had expected. I would definitely go see another TCW show in the future, but I would advise hardcore highspot fans that they probably won't care for it.

    BIGGEST POPS (pretty predictable):

    1. Dusty Rhodes
    2. Dustin Rhodes
    3. Barry Windham

    BIGGEST HEAT:

    1. Steve Corino
    2. Heavenly Bodies
    3. Luther Biggs
