Martin passes away, Angle/Hogan on ESPN, Guido/Funk radio recap Submitted by William Martinez on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 11:38 AM EST
In a somewhat wrestling-related news item, Harvey Martin, a former Dallas Cowboy who competed in the infamous NFL/WWF battle royal at Wrestlemania 2 passed away on Christmas Eve after fighting pancreatic cancer for over a year. Martin also did some announcing for the GWF. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.
I was just watching SportsCenter and on Thursday's Unscripted with Chris Connelly they will be doing a "Best of 2001" that will include Kurt Angle's appearence. That will be shown at 5:00 EST on ESPN2.

- Curry said there are a lot of differences between the way he wrestles and the way he wrestles. Curry said his dad was more of a mat wrestler and a good heel, while he was a high flying type wrestler and a good baby face.

Kwee-Wee ---- Alan Funk
- Alan said a lot of the guys down in HWA took the death of Russ Haas pretty hard.
- Funk said he left HWA on Friday and he's glad he wasn't there when Russ died because he was already stressed out enough and he didn't want to have to deal with that on top of everything else.
- Alan said Russ was a great guy and he had just exchanged phone numbers with him so they could keep in touch.
- Funk said he wasn't real comfortable with the WWF situation. Funk said that he was just starting to get a push in WCW then they got bought out by the WWF and were off TV for six months after having been on for two years.
- Alan said he had high expectations when the WWF bought his contract, but was pretty disappointed that the WWF called him and told him he had two weeks to move to Cincinnati. He had to sell his house and had no time to talk to his wife about it and she was pretty angry.
- Funk said that the Kwee-Wee character was given to him by Vince Russo and Terry Taylor. It was supposed to be an eccentric guy. Funk said that they told him not to go too far with the character because they didn't want people to think he was gay or bashing gay people, which is why they gave him three different women to come to the ring with.
- Alan said that he had the opportunity to be on TV so he was going to do whatever they wanted him to do.
- Funk said that the locker room in WCW was great. He said that the young guys were treated very fairly and Kevin Nash was great to them.
- Alan said that the rumors that he left HWA after he was let go and everybody else stayed were false.
- Funk said that Tom Pritchard, Johnny Ace and Les Thatcher informed him that the WWF didn't have a spot for him right now and that he was going to be let go. Funk also said that they only had positive things to say about him, which was a plus.
- Alan said Tom Pritchard is trying to help him get his job back.
- Funk said that it makes him feel good that no one thinks he should've been cut.
- Alan said that he talked to Jimmy Hart the day he got cut and Jimmy told him that the XWF wasn't hiring until February.
- Funk said you could book him through www.extremebookings.com.
- Alan said that when he was growing up he was a huge Hulk Hogan fan and that led to him growing his hair long and growing a mustache and becoming the Funkster down in the HWA. Alan said it got over huge down there.
- Funk said when he does Indy shows he will probably wrestle as Kwee-Wee because that's what people remember from TV.
- Alan thanks Rod and Brent for having him on and then signs off.
