WWF Byte This! Report with the WWF Stars: 12/21
Friday, December 21, 2001 Hosts: Kevin Kelly and Dr. Tom Prichard Guest: WWF Superstars Report by: Kevin Gregg of PowerWrestling.com
WWF Byte This! started off with a dedication image for Russ Hass. It's a special Holiday edition of WWF Byte This!, and Kevin Kelly and Dr. Tom Prichard were in the studio for the show. They started off the show with Paul Heyman's head showing on the screen, with "Merry Christmas" written across his head. They call that the Skullet. Kevin said that they are going to do a lot of special things here, and they will be checking in with Howard Finkel. RAW is being taped tonight in Miami, and they'll talk to him, as well as various WWF Superstars. They will be talking to Droz in just a few seconds, plus, they want to hear from the fans. Tom said the last time he was on Byte This!, it was right before the big Unification Match. Tom said that Chris Jericho is in the running for Superstar of the Year. Tom and Kevin talked about WWF Smackdown!. He saw a good friend of theirs return. What a way to make an impact. Close to the end of the year, the Bossman returns.
Kevin said that a lot of things have happened in the past couple of weeks with men signing contracts. Booker T was a part of that. Droz joins the show, and you can read his column every week on WWF.com. Kevin, Tom and Droz talked about the Holidays, and Droz said that he heard they are wearing Santa hats, and Kevin said that they are going to be wearing these hats throughout the hour, even though they are hot as hell. Kevin read a comment from the chat room, and it said "Merry XXX-Mas to Big Country's mom." Droz asked how things went last week with having Big Country's mom on. Big Country got on the show, and he said that he had this whole show planned out, and they talk about his mother like she's some piece of meat? Kevin asked Droz about some Christmas memories, and they talked about Stone Cold giving Santa the Stunner, and DX showing their stuff. Kevin said that if you can't find anything else to do on RAW, why not get a big breasted girl and have her go to a confessional?
Droz said that this is the WWF, and anything goes. It was a great piece. They went to the Byte This! Santa Clause, and he started singing Jingle Bells. The guy pretty much bullshitted his way through the song when he didn't know the words, and Kevin, Tom and Droz poked fun at his singing. Kevin said that is friggen brutal. Tom asked Droz what he has lined up for Christmas, and Droz said that they are going to head over to his parents house. They always have a big get together, and they'll have a big dinner and sit back and relax and celebrate Christmas. Tom asked Droz if he saw Smackdown!, and what he thought of the return of the Bossman? Droz said that he saw it, and he said it was great to see Boss back on TV. It's been too long. He missed seeing all the guys around, and he wasn't happy with the way that he came back, but he had to come back, and if nothing else, he sure made an impact. Kevin said that the Bossman has been a big part of Mr. McMahon's operation before.
It wasn't too long ago that the Bossman was used to try to derail Stone Cold. Everything seems to be centering around Mr. McMahon protecting Booker T and Chris Jericho. Austin and The Rock are on one side, and Mr. McMahon and his guys are on the other side. Droz said that Austin is going to have to jump through quite a few hoops right now, because of all the people he's up against. Tom asked Droz if he's impressed with the way Chris Jericho has managed to hold onto the Undisputed Championship? Droz said that you have to be. He's finding a way to hold onto it. By any means neccessary. It doesn't matter if you love him or hate him, he's still got that Gold. Kevin mentioned that RAW is being taped tonight, and what is the adjustment with guys having to do RAW on Friday, with them used to doing it on Monday? Does that play into anyone's mind, and what will it be like for them to be home for Christmas? Droz said it's going to be a big boost for the guys to be home during Christmas.
Other than that, the guys are used to working tapings and the house shows. They are out to put on a great show for everyone to enjoy on Christmas eve, and they'll go on from there. Kevin broke some news, and that's that the main event has been announced with The Rock and Chris Jericho going at it for the Undisputed Championship on the line. They took a look at a clip from a 1997 edition of WWF RAW is WAR when Stone Cold Steve Austin had a run in with Santa Clause. Kevin said that was one great Holiday, and there will be some more. Kevin asked Droz for his thoughts on Shawn Michaels. He was on Excess this past weekend. There is some speculation about his future, and Kevin doesn't think we'll ever see him in the ring again. What does Shawn have to offer in a non wrestling capacity? Droz said that just his mic skills alone bring entertainment whether it would be announcing or spot work. Every time he gets on the stage or in the ring to speak, people go wild. He's still a great asset to the WWF.
Kevin asked Droz who he thinks the Superstar of the Year is, and Droz said Rob Van Dam. The fact that he came in with such a bang, and he continues to raise it up week in and week out. Tom asked Droz if he ever watches the show on the computer, and Droz said that he's going to have to check out today's show. They wrapped up Droz's segment on Byte This!, and as Droz was saying his goodbyes, they accidentally cut him off. Howard Finkel joined the show, and he wished Kevin good luck, because he's going down. Kevin said yeah, it's gonna be a war. Kevin told Howard that he and Tom are dressed like Santa, and they brought in the chat room guy and dressed him like Santa, and he's singing Christmas Carols. It's a nice touch and a lot of fun. Howard said that he's backstage at RAW, and he's trying to get Superstars of all shapes and sizes. He's got Harvey Wippleman with him, right now. Harvey wished them Merry Christmas, and he left, because he's on the run. Howard put him over as the best runner in the business.
Howard looked at one of the true Superstars in the WWF, and it was Terri Runnels! Terri said hello to Kevin and Tom, and they wished her Merry Christmas. Tom asked her if she's wearing a little elf costume like last year, and Terri said she's wearing a little nothing. She's not wearing a whole lot right now. It's really hot down there. Terri chatted with Kevin and Tom, and someone was clawing at her to get on the phone. It was Bradshaw. He said that he wasn't ripping at her to get at the phone, he was ripping at her clothes to get to her! Kevin asked Bradshaw what the plan is for Christmas, and he said that he and his wife are going to get drunk together! Kevin told Bradshaw that Lucas said hello, and Merry Christmas, and Bradshaw told Kevin to tell Lucas that there's something that Bradshaw can't do for himself for Christmas, and that's kiss my ass. They went over to the Byte This! Santa, and he sang, and Kevin told him to shut up. Bradshaw said that he's got somebody else that wants to talk to them. A friend of theirs with a foreign Christmas wish.
Howard got back on the phone, and he said that he's going to give them someone who's a foreigner in the WWF. Tajiri got on the phone and spoke in Japanese, and they couldn't understand a word he said. Tom seemed to be able to communicate with him as Kevin Kelly just sat there squirting random words out of his mouth. Howard then brought on someone else, and that's Torrie Wilson. Torrie said that she has a big match tonight. Kevin asked her what she's doing tonight, and she'll be in an Eggnog match! Tom asked Torrie if she's wearing an elf suit tonight, and she said that she's wearing a Santa suit. They talked about the Eggnog match, and Kevin said that he doesn't care for eggnog, and Torrie said she's going to be licking it off Stacy all night. Torrie gave the phone back to Howard and someone took the phone from him, and it's Tazz. Tazz said it has to be quick, because it's very busy there. He's dressed in the Christmas colors of Orange and Black. He wanted to do this from The Rock's pool, but he asked him what he was doing, and The Rock called the cops on him. What a shock!
Tazz didn't spend much time on the show, because he had to go. Howard rejoined the show, and it's time for Out Think the Fink. This week, they are giving out The Rock T-shirt. Two of them. This week's question is: The WWF had a movie and a match. This week's Out Think the Fink question, in three parts. What was the name of the movie, the type of match that took place, and the participants in the match. It was a pay per view and a movie. Howard then allowed someone to get on the phone, and it's Pat Patterson. Pat wished them a Merry Christmas, and he asked them where they are, and they are in Stamford. Pat said that's a good place to be. Kevin asked Pat about the improvements of Chris Jericho throughout the year. How would he sum it up? Pat said there's too much fucking noise, and he asked them to repeat that. Kevin and Tom jumped out of their seats, because of what Patterson said. Kevin said that Chris is getting a lot of votes for the 2001 Superstar of the Year. Pat said for his size and ability, he's proven that he can go. Pat thinks he's very deserving, and he's happy for him, holding the Championship belts.
Pat left the show, and Howard brought on another guest, and that's Rocky Johnson, the father of The Rock. Rocky wished them a good Christmas, and he left the show. Spike Dudley joined the show, and Tom asked Spike if he's still walking after that bump from the Undertaker. Spike said that he's walking yes, limping more, yeah. Kevin asked Spike how he can take so much punishment? Spike said that he has that natural ability. Size makes a big difference. He's small, so it doesn't hurt as much as it would if he was 300 pounds. Maybe he's flexible or just lucky. Another guest, and Howard said that this guest never believes in going ass backwards. It's Rikishi. Rikishi said it's nice and hot down in Miami. They talk about the stink face, and Kevin told Rikishi to give Patterson one, because he dropped the f-bomb on the show. Kevin said there was some concern that he might not be able to come back. What were some of his thoughts and emotions that he was going through? Rikishi said why come back when you're not 100%? In this business, you've got to love it and make sure you're fully ready to come back.
He keeps going, because you can't keep the big man down. They talked about his return, and Rikishi said that he hasn't heard the end of that, because the boys are ribbing him on that. Next guest: Jimmy Kordaris. Tom said that Jim is his favorite Canadian referee. Jim asked: "Aren't I the only one?" Tom asked Jim if he celebrates Boxing Day, and Jim said that he does. It's one of the biggest Holidays in Canada. You go to the boxing day sales and buy everything at half price. Howard took the phone, and he said that he has another guest. It's the Brooklyn Brawler. Oh my. Kevin welcomed him to the show, and he said that he's been on here before, hasn't he? The Brawler said that he's wrestling again next week, and that's going to be 'great.' The Brawler said that he's going to be at WWF New York on the 23rd of this week. He's having dinner there, because it's on the house! Oh, no. It's because it's a great place to go. The Brawler is keeping the pretape room in line, and he's working with make a wish. Howard brought on another guest, and it's a camera man. Bubba Dean.
Dean said that he's busy as ever, and it's a big hussle backstage. It's like crazy. Kevin said that for those of you who don't know Bubba Dean, you know his work, because he works with the backstage pretapes. Kevin said that he is one of the greats, and they wish him a Happy Holidays. Dean wished them Happy Holidays from the pretape room. Next guest: Trish Stratus. Tom said that Trish is his favorite Canadian Women's Champion. Trish said isn't she the only Canadian Women's Champion?! They talk about Boxing Day. Kevin asked Trish how is it being Women's Champion? She came back from an injury, and she's doing a lot. Trish said ever since she came back, it's been a big whirl wind. She thinks that she's been on every show wrestling, except for one show where Vince kissed Rikishi's ass. Kevin said that her back has to be bothering her, because every week, she carries The Coach on Excess. Trish said that she might be letting him go, because Terri may be stepping in. Trish accused Terri of taking her job. Kevin asked who the most obnoxious Canadian is in the WWF?
It's Test, isn't it? Trish said he takes the cake. Kevin mentioned Wrestlemania in Toronto, and Trish is excited. It's going to be huge. She hopes to be involved in wrestling for the Women's Championship. Next guest: Arn Anderson. Arn told Kevin that he has to get on the road and out of the office in Stamford. Kevin agreed, because they are killing him there. Kevin asked Arn about being in the WWF, and Arn said that it was great to come into the WWF, because it's a professionally ran company. Everyone in the company has a passion for what they do, and he is tickled to death to be back. Kevin asked Arn about some of the guys that stood out to him, instantly. Of course, The Rock and Stone Cold and mega stars, but what about some of the younger guys that stood out. Arn said that he has said many times that he has never seen anyone catch onto the business as quick as Kurt Angle. He's not going to be there, he's there. He's done it in 2-3 years. In the old days, it took you about 6 years working 280 days a year to get a hold of this business. His favorite is Kurt.
Tom said that you could tell Kurt is a natural. That's not something you always see. Kurt was willing to learn, and Arn said that natural isn't even a good enough word. It's a phenomenon. For a guy to come in and take to sports entertainment the way he did, it's a miracle. Kevin talked about Ric Flair's return, and having him back on the scene has to be good for Arn as well. Arn said it really is. Ric is the only guy that's from his era. Booker T is doing a great job. Partially he is, but Flair is the only guy that's left that came from the old era of WCW. It's great to have another professional on board. Kevin asked him how he's going to celebrate the Holidays, and Arn said that he's going to enjoy the time off, and he'll do whatever his 4 year old lets him do. Howard rejoins the show, and they have winners for the Trivia Question. The answer is: Match - Steel Cage - Brutus Beefcake, Hulk Hogan, Zeus and Randy Savage were involved in No Holds Barred, the pay per view, and the movie. D-Von Dudley joined the show, and Kevin asked him how his new son is doing, and D-Von said that he's doing great.
They are enjoying life. Tom asked if they have anything special set up for Christmas. D-Von said that he and Bubba will go to Home Depot and take the Dudleyville Credit Card, get some tables, and put the tables in front of their house and find some poor sucka and put them through the table. Next guest: Michael Hayes. They had the Byte This! Santa Clause sing "Bad Street" for Michael, and Michael left the show. Howard came back, and Kevin and Tom exchanged gifts. Kevin gave Tom some blonde hair coloring, and Howard said that if he knows Tom, he'll take that bottle and ZIP right through it! They poked fun at Tom Prichard's days as Zip of the Bodydonnas. Tom got Kevin some Stacker 2, and Howard asked where his gift is, and they both got him a Pepsi! It's waiting in the studio for him. Howard has one last guest. They started it with Harvey Wippleman, and now they have Molly Holly. Tom asked Molly if she's been saving any citizens lately? Molly said that she's been very busy. Kevin asked her how her life has been as a Super Heroette? Molly said that she's having a great time, and they talk about Trish Stratus and the Women's Championship. Molly said that Trish is doing phenomenal. She's earned the Women's Title.
Molly left the show, and Howard had a bonus guest. The original James Brown. Teddy Long! Teddy said hello to them, and Kevin said that you cannot go wrong with Teddy Long. Kevin asked Teddy what he's doing for Christmas? Teddy said he's not doing too much. He's going to be spending time with his family and keepin' it real. Kevin thanked Teddy for his hard work and effort, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Teddy wished them the same, and they betta be sugar free. Howard said two weeks from Today, Howard will be phoning in on Byte This!, and they have to wrap it up here. Howard plugged a few upcoming shows and he wished everyone out there Happy Holidays. Howard wrapped up his part on the show, and he left the show. Kevin read a poem to end the show, and they ended with a special look at Degeneration X showing their asses on WWF RAW in 1997! Bye then.
