WWF Split roster details, Smackdown notes, Piper, Goldberg, more

The plans still remain to split the WWF roster, on January 7th, with one half wrestling on RAW, while the other will be on Smackdown. The plans are to be sort of like the NFL or MLB with two separate divisions, although the names for each parts of the WWF haven't been decided yet. Each will have a big babyface wrestler, with one division having Steve Austin, while the other will have the Rock.

Long term plans have both divisions having their own Pay Per Views, starting possibly at the second half of 2002. However, it's very much unknown to which division will be on Smackdown (UPN) or RAW (TNN). The plans are to have all of the WWF wrestlers doing houseshows together, although they might not face each other.

Problems arise from the new houseshow circuit where the WWF sends an "A" roster to a large market, while a "B" roster goes to a smaller market. Vince McMahon wouldn't want to send one division to the large market, while another goes to the smaller one. He wants two separate, but equal divisions. Another question comes up about the World Title situation, as the title formerly known as the WCW Title could remain around for one division, while the other will have the wrestler with the WWF Title.

Last night's edition of WWF Smackdown scored a 5.2 in the overnight ratings. Although this is an improvement from previous weeks, just note that the WWF was facing repeats from the other networks.

WWF Smackdown will air LIVE on January 3rd from the MCI Center in Washington D.C., since January 1st is on a Tuesday. Tickets for that go on sale December 8th.

Another update on Ohio Valley Wrestling wrestler Randy Orton, who reportedly separated his shoulder Tuesday night. Orton had an MRI, and as it turns out, his shoulder wasn't separated at all. It appears that he may have a bone bruise instead, which is a significantly less serious injury than a separated shoulder.

Thanks to Tim for sending this in!

Roddy Piper was on Chicago WGN news this morning. He briefly talked about being a grandfather and then began to talk about the XWF. He said that right now wrestling fans only have one choice for wrestling, which is more of a pornography show (WWF). He stated that the XWF is about wrestling and giving young guys chances to show what they've got. He also said that Undertaker was wrong on Monday night when he said he kissed Vince's "bum" because he may have done a lot of things, but he never kissed his "bum". Vince wouldn't hire him back, and that's why he started up the XWF.

    Bill Goldberg on Turner South

The 99x Moe's Celebrity Softball Slam, a softball game to benefit the MDA took place in the Georgia Dome earlier this month, and will be replayed on Turner South Saturday night at 6:00PM. Goldberg was one of the players, mainly because one of the morning show DJ's, Jimmy Barron, was the guy who used to do the WCW Road Report.

Also in Atlanta, my TiVo told me that Smackdown was not airing on UPN69
last night due to the Atlanta Hawks game. It will airing tonight Friday) at 8PM instead.
