OVW TV TAPING 10/24/01 Aaron "Lurch" Wilson AWLurch@hotmail.com
-Overall a very good show from Ohio Valley Wrestling taped as it is every week in Jeffersonville, Indiana just across the river from Louisville, Kentucky in a packed standing room only crowd in Davis Arena. I will also note that The Godfather and Big Bossman were spotted in the Crow's Nest of Davis Arena watching the show with Godfather even taking the time to sign a few autographs for fans before the show.
-Ron Waterman vs. Mr. Black w/ Jerome Croney
-This was overall a very good match with Waterman continuing his great improvement in charisma. Waterman took the upper hand throughout the match with the crowd all over Mr. Black. Waterman even pulled off an impressive "Raven-like" Clothesline to corner bulldog. The match ended as Croney attempted to interfere on the ring apron distracting Waterman as Black tried to hit Waterman from behind. Waterman then moved out of the way and took out Mr. Black applying the Ankle lock submission making Black "Tap-Out"
-Winner via submission Ron Waterman
-Next there was an interview segment in the ring with Jim Cornette and Flash. Flash is apparently still upset from an attack last week off the side of the road by Bull Buchanon and Flash is insistent that Cornette was responsible. Cornette then goes on to offer Flash the truth and goes on to tell Flash that the truth is that Flash is really selfish and just out to look for himself. He claims that Flash just wants the belt, and is determined to be the one to beat Bull. Flash then in turn, denies Cornettes allegation and says that he doesn't care and would rather just beat up Bull Buchanon. Throughout this interview the crowd, which seems to have a different opinion on Flash every week, was yelling "WAAAA!" pretending to cry like a baby. Overall a very entertaining segment.
-Bull Buchanon vs. David Flair
-Before this match Bull gets on the microphone and tells Flair while somewhat playing the role of the "cocky heel" that he has no pride in what he's about to do to Flair, that it's just strictly business. Aside from Bull's opening speech, Flair on the other hand prooved that he was going to put up a fight and had a very impressive match. Bull hit all of his signature moves with Flair pulling out some new stuff. Flair pulled off a very impressive jump over Bull from the turnbuckle and turning him around into a Drop Toe Hold. Although Flair did seem to put up a fight throughout the match, Bull did take the upperhand throughout the match and gained the pinfall after a Top Rope Leg drop.
-Winner via pinfall Bull Buchanon
-Jim Cornette then came down the ring once again for an interview segment, this time with D'Lo Brown, who hasn't exactly claimed his former fan favorite status with the Davis Arena crowd. D'lo get's on the mic and states that although Mark Henry hasn't been here in the recent weeks that he does have Henry here tonight and introduces him. Out comes an average sized Bald Black man wearing Mark Henry's old Olympic Warmup Jacket and carrying a bucket of KFC with him to the ring. D'lo continues to go on ranting about Mark Henry and how he is out of shape not even paying attention to the imposter when the Real Mark Henry makes his OVW return throwing the imposter out of the ring and taking his place. D'lo then turns around and recieves a vicious standing clothesline as people attempt to break up the situation. Eventually D'lo manages to get back the upper hand by throwing the drink into the face of Henry and takes him down and delivers two giant Frog Splashes from seperate corners, as the ref break up the mayhem.
-Val Venis vs. Leviathan w/ Synn and Swail
-This was in my own opinion the best match of the night with Val coming out to his old "Helllooo Ladies" music. Throughout the beginning it really seemed as if Venis was technically toying with the Demon of the Deep Leviathan, really working on his knee. Eventually Leviathan starts working back on Venis' knee doing things that I don't think anyone in Davis Arena has seen, on a technical standpoint. As Val attempted to fight back the crowd as they chanted "Go Demon Go" really got into this match emotionally. The Demon then went for a huge power bomb and pulled it off on the WWF Superstar only to get a two count. He then went for a second with Val putting up a little resistant but still could not manage to pull off the three, putting the Davis Arena crowd at the edge of their seats. Eventually after a lot of struggle the Demon was able to pull off the third power bomb and the pinfall, in what I believe to be Leviathan's best match.
-Winner via pinfall Leviathan
-An interview segment with Dean Hill joined by Kenny "the King" Bolin, Rico Costatino and The Prototype took place next, with the three talking about their match at Monday Night Raw this week. It will be a Dark match before Raw against the Minnesota Stretching Crew, Brock Lesnar and Shelton Benjamin, for the Southern Tag Team Titles. Bolin Services was very proud of this title defense claiming that this will be a huge match that will showcase their talent to the thousands that will be packed in Freedom Hall this Monday Night. It should be one excellent match which I will be writing a report monday night for this site on all of the OVW happenings of the night.
-Steve Bradley vs. Machine w/ Victoria OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH TV MAIN EVENT
-This TV Main Event was also a very great match, getting off to a very good technical start. Machine really seemed to use Victoria to his advantage, throwing this street thug out of the ring to Victoria allowing her to get the cheap shots on Bradley. Bradley also had a very innovative move as he appeared to go for a move, but then did a complete 180 degree turn with his body racking Machine across his leg, as well as Machine doing his Three consecutive Russian Leg Drops. As it appeared that Bradley may actually pull off the win and the OVW Heavyweight title, Machine loaded his mask with some foreign object and headbutted Bradley followed by going to the top rope for a huge diving headbutt and picking up the pinfall. After the match Flash then ran down to the ring and un-masks Machine taking out the foreign object and hitting Machine himself in the head with it. Next Bull Buchanon makes his way to the ring and brawls with Flash being pulled apart by the referees, who obviously were not enough, as it took Waterman, Randy Orton, Damaja and Jim Cornette to stop this havok in the ring as the Television Cameras went off the air.
-Winner via pinfall Machine
