  • The WWF is heavily advertising Steve Austin vs. Rob Van Dam for their November 24th house show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  • Hayabusa will be receiving several tests over the next few days at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan to determine the extent of the injury to his cervical vertebrae after landing on his head in a recent match. Hayabusa is no longer feeling pain after receiving lots of medicine but the fact that he was experiencing pain is actually a good sign since he was able to have feeling.

  • Reportedly, subscribers of WOW Magazine who have called to find out the status of the magazine have been informed that the magazine is not dead, as had been reported earlier, but there would be a lapse of a few months due to the change in publishers. A representative of Kappa Publishing, the new owner of WOW's rights, stated that the magazine was dead and others close to the situation stated the same.

  • Several people are outraged at the fact that after contacting the WWF and the company that ran the No Mercy webcast, they have not been able to receive a refund. Only one case of a refund has been reported, but the person only received the refund after several e-mails. Others have either been offered access to the webcast on an "on demand" basis and a 10% discount at WWF Shopzone, or have not been replied to at all.

  • The Harris Brothers will begin working for Jimmy Hart and Brian Knobs' new promotion beginning in early November. The promotion will be taping shows for about a week in hopes of getting a syndication deal and the brothers will work for two of those days.

  • The WWF has opened WWFSurvivorSeries.com, the pay-per-view's official website. The site contains a contest, history, wallpapers, chat and features The Rock's history at Survivor Series.

Showtime Event Television Releases Third Quarter 2001 Pay Per View Event Industry Summary
Pay Per View Event Revenue Up Nearly 20%

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Pay per view event revenue generated in the third quarter of 2001 surged to $83.9 million, an estimated 18% increase from third quarter 2000 revenue ($71.1MM). The figures were announced today in the quarterly pay per view industry event summary released by SET (Showtime Event Television) Pay Per View.

Wrestling event revenue plunged nearly 16% to $53 million in the third quarter of 2001 from earnings of approximately $63 million during the same period in 2000. The drop in revenue is primarily due to the absence of World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling pay per view events. Nevertheless, Wrestling events accounted for approximately 63% of the total revenue for the event category in the third quarter. World Wrestling Federation had the second, third and fourth best performing events in all categories with Unforgiven (Sept. 23), Summerslam (Aug. 19) and Invasion (July 22).

Boxing event revenue in 3Q'01 increased approximately 582% ($27.5MM) from 3Q'00 (over $4MM) and accounted for the increase in overall pay per-view-event revenue, as event revenue in all other categories slid over 16% from $67.1 million in 3Q'00 to $56.3 million in 3Q'01. Trinidad vs. Hopkins (Sept. 29/HBO PPV) was the top performing pay per view event in the third quarter of 2001 and accounted for the lion's share of the boxing event earnings with approximately $20.5 million.

Ask Sylvia Browne -- Your Spiritual Advisor (July 14/SET) was the best performer in the non-traditional event category earning over $350,000 in revenue, while Clint Holmes: A Night to Remember (July 7/I.Mag Video/AV Inc.) topped the list of music events brining in nearly $250,000.

SET (Showtime Event Television) Pay Per View is the pay per view production and distribution arm of Viacom Inc. and is managed by Showtime Networks Inc. SET Pay Per View has produced and distributed seven of the top ten pay per view events of all time, including the telecasts of the historic bouts between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson which remain the biggest PPV events in the history of cable television. SET also has been instrumental in bringing milestone events to the viewing public such as numerous music concerts, including the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, Tina Turner, Music for Montserrat, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Phil Collins and New Kids on the Block.
