    NEW NWA ANNIVERSARY VENUE FOUND

TAMPA - With local promoters on the verge of canceling the NWA's "Battle of the Belts" 53rd Anniversary show on Wednesday due to no suitable facility being available, an unlikely ally stepped forward to offer assistance; NWA Florida's biggest adversary, IPW-Hardcore Wrestling.

Thanks to the assistance of IPW owners Ron Niemi, Devin Nash and IPW commissioner Eddie Edwards, the Florida WrestlePlex, will host the NWA event in an emergency capacity.

"We're doing it for the fans," said Niemi when asked why he would step forward to assist his cross-bay rival. "There's a lot of great talent coming in from all over the world to work on that show, not to mention the big cage match that will end the IPW-NWA Florida feud once and for all, and I'll be damned if the fans were going to be cheated out of seeing that."

"I'm flabbergasted," said NWA president Howard Brody of the offer. "I never expected them to step forward like this, especially after everything we've been through. But I suppose even they were effected by the events of September 11th. I'm just glad the show will go on."

When NWA Florida was notified by state officials that the event was officially being canceled at the Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory because of "hardened security" measures as the result of the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., Brody and his crew began a frantic search for a replacement building.

"Every place we inquired was either too big, too small, or just too expensive," Brody said. "At one point we had it narrowed down between two buildings. But, as it turned out, one was already booked and the other had hidden costs in their contract that made it prohibitive. All the other places we found that would have been perfect were already booked solid."

While seating at the WrestlePlex is limited to 250, fans who are lucky enough to get tickets will have a unique opportunity to experience NWA wrestling like never before.

"It's a very intimate setting," said one half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions Vito DeNucci. "With fans being literally five feet away, they're going to almost feel like they are in the ring with us."

Even though the WrestlePlex cannot accommodate as many people as the Armory, all parties involved promised a pull-out-all-stops show.

Along with the venue change, the outgoing NWA president announced that the day time Fan Convention would be canceled due to a lack of space to accommidate it and also a change in ticket prices. Brody said all tickets for the "Battle of the Belts 2001" show would now be $15 and said anyone who had purchased a ticket for $20 or $17 will get a refund at the door.

The Florida WrestlePlex is located at 4055 35th Street North, Suite 1, in St. Petersburg. For more information on the show, including directions to the WrestlePlex and how to purchase tickets on-line without any additional fees, contact the NWA hotline at 813-960-4168 or visit http://www.nwa-florida.com

    *The Official APW ONLINE NEWSLETTER*

    (September 23rd - September 29th 2001)

4 WEEKS til APW's KING OF INDIES 2001!

    -------------------------------------------

*THREE MORE NAMES ADDED TO KING OF INDIES*

Three more wrestlers were announced this past week as participants for October's King Of Indies 2-Day Tournament, running the total to 12 (leaving only 4 spots left). They are:

    -"Baby Bull" Bison Smith
    -American Dragon
    -"Innovator" Vincenzo Massaro

These are three of the top up-and-coming independent wrestlers in the world today. APW is very proud to announce these men as participants in what will be the biggest tournament in indie-wrestling history.
Here is a quick look at the three latest KOI participants:

    Name: Vincenzo Massaro
    Height: 5'9"
    Weight: 259
Known throughout APW as one of the most innovative wrestlers in the sport today, Vinny Massaro is notorious for showcasing a new, totally original maneuver during almost each and every match he wrestles. His wide array of personalized finishers includes the "B*tch Slap", "The Copyright" and the "Greetings From The Pink Poodle." Vinny has wrestled all over the country for APW, Southern California's UPW, Chicago's MCW and other indies. Some of his best matches have come against wrestlers like Boyce LeGrande, Jardi Frantz & Jayson Reign.
Massaro competed in last years King Of Indies Tournament, only to lose in a great opening round match to Scoot Andrews. He has had a great year so far in 2001, putting on great matches in his current feud with The Frantz Brothers. Massaro may not be the biggest or quickest wrestler, and he may not have the best body in this tournament, but he is definitely worthy of his spot. The Innovator is one of the top up and coming wrestlers in the entire country, and we look forward to a strong showing from him in this years tournament.

    Name: American Dragon
    Height: 5'10"
    Weight: 185
The American Dragon graduated from Shawn Michaels San Antonio Wrestling Academy in 1999, and was signed to a WWF developmental deal after less than 2 years in the business. In addition to being trained by Michaels, whom he credits as being a huge influence on his career, training duties were also shared by William Regal & Tracy Smothers. Dragon has an amazingly versatile arsenal, as he combines both aerial and technical wrestling into his style. He attributes much of his success to working with other great wrestlers such as Jerry Lynn, Reckless Youth, Joey Abs, Spanky and Lance Cade. He has worked for many promotions including Shawn Michaels' TWA, Tennessee's MCW, Memphis Power Pro and even Japan's FMW. Dragon grabbed national attention earlier this spring with his "blow away" performance, being named MVP of the ECWA's Super 8 Tournament. His match against Low-Ki at that show is still being talked about today as one of the best matches in Super 8 history. He is v!
ery influenced by the Japanese style of wrestling, in which he names NOAH's Mitsuharu Misawa as one of his favorites, along with Toshiaki Kawada, Minoru Tanaka and Tiger Mask 4. He also says he would love to work against American wrestlers such as Chad Collyer or 2000 King Of Indies Champion Christopher Daniels.
We look forward to seeing American Dragon compete at the 2001 King Of Indies Tournament in Vallejo, Ca. this October. He will join a large list of the top names in wrestling today, which will be bringing you the biggest night in independent wrestling history.

    Name: Bison Smith
    Height: 6'3"
    Weight: 290
Bison Smith has most recently made a name for himself in Japan, working for Mitsuharu Misawa's Pro Wrestling NOAH. Misawa was very impressed with Smith's work and signed him up for a tour this past September, in which he wrestled against some of the best from that promotion, while teaming up with superstars like Michael Modest, Donovan Morgan & Vader! He has been invited to return to Japan for the GHC Tag Team Tournament in October, in which his partner will be Bull Schmitt. Some of the other names in that tournament include Jun Akiyama, Akira Taue and Shinjiro Otani.
Many say Smith reminds them of a young "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, which is a huge compliment, but also very true. He is a good brawler, and a good mat wrestler. He can also do some amazing things for a man his size. Smith is one of the biggest and strongest competitors you will see in this years King Of Indies Tournament. Touring Japan has paid off greatly for him, as he has become a more solid wrestler, and understands the sport now better than ever. He will most definitely be one to watch in this years tournament.

    -------------------------------------------

*MORE KING OF INDIES 2001 TIDBITS*

<>The final 4 competitors for the tournament are expected to be named within the next week. Starting October 1st, the first round matches for the tournament will be let out to the public. However, the brackets will not be announced until the first night of the KOI tournament. This way, it builds suspense so the fans know what great 1st round matches they will see, but won't know the quarter-final matches until the night of the tournament.

<>APW President Roland Alexander, gearing up for a huge week of wrestling, has went on record and stated: "I promise you the King Of Indies opening round matches will be the best anyone has ever seen in the history of indie wrestling. This is a deep tournament and you'll be surprised to hear who the final 2 or 3 entries are."
"I just want to take this time to thank all the wrestlers who applied for KING OF INDIES. Some of you are just not qualified, while others are very qualified, and it was a tough selection process. Some of you are very worthy of KING OF INDIES, but it was a numbers game when making the selections. My advice to you is to keep plugging away at your career and make it a goal to be accepted into the KING OF INDIES 2002, as every year this tournament will not only get better but could be the stepping stone to a full-time job with a major wrestling promotion...especially the 2-day BOOT CAMP Summit where there will be promoters scouting talent."

<>Speaking of the 2-day Boot Camp Summit, which takes place Wednesday October 24th & Thursday October 25th: This will only be open to the general public on the 2nd night, which is Thursday October 25th (from 7:00pm to 9:00pm). To attend the Thursday night Boot Camp Summit, you must have a KING OF INDIES package. Those that have ordered tickets through the mail or over the phone, and paid with a credit card, can pick up their tickets at the APW GARAGE in Hayward. Betty Beefcake will run the WILL CALL at the APW GARAGE. For those that choose not to attend, your KING OF INDIES tickets will be in WILL CALL at the PACIFIC SPORTS CENTER in Vallejo.

...Cashis Carter got the pin on Kevin Featherstone at 9:29 following a roll up. Featherstone tried to use his feet on the ropes to get the pin but referee Mike DiMuzio ordered the match to continue. Featherstone got in an argument with DiMuzio and then pushed DiMuzio, who gave Featherstone a shove of his own. Featherstone stumbled back and Carter delivered a roll up to get the win.

    OVW TV TAPING RESULTS
    9/26/01
    Aaron "Lurch" Wilson
    AwLurch@hotmail.com

-The show started off a little bit different than your
usual OVW TV Taping. For those that read this every
week you may know that Dean Hill usually opens the
show. This week instead Jim Cornette got on the mic
to share a very important message with the Davis Arena
crowd. He shared the fact that the special tribute to
the victims of the World Trade Center attacks was not
aired on OVW TV due to one person disagreeing with it
who works for the WB affiliate in Louisville. Cornette
was very upset with this action and decided to voice his
opinion and explain to the fans exactly why this wonderful
message was not shared to the TV audience. It's been
reported as being "Bradshaw like" which it was, with a
    huge dosage of Jim Cornette.

-Damaja & Randy Orton vs. Sean Casey & Chris Michaels

-Match got off to a good technical start with with the team
of Casey and Michaels really drawing major heat from the
crowd. Orton pulled off a fantastic standing dropkick followed
later by a very impressive powerslam. The match was very
quickly paced and one of the better matches of the night.
Towards the end of the match Chris Michaels grabbed Orton
and Casey went for the SuperKick but missed and hit Michaels
allowing Orton to pull off the Wheelbarrow Suplex and gain
    the pinfall.

-Winners Damaja & Randy Orton via pinfall

-Payne & Damien w/ Synn & Swail vs. Rico Costatino & Prototype
    w/ Bolin & Crony
OVW TAG TITLE MATCH LEVIATHAN & MR. BLACK BARRED FROM RINGSIDE

-After the contenders are announce Brock Lesnar makes his way
to ringside and takes a front row seat to view the match. The
local crowd was literally all over the team of Rico and Prototype
calling them all sorts of insulting terms, even referring to
Prototype as "Homotype". The match was overall very well done
with both teams really excelling in the tag team division. Payne
and Damien pulled off an excellent double team slam move, which
I'm not quite sure how to describe, but it was impressive
to say the least. The match came to an end as Bolin went to
the ring apron directly in front of Lesnar and attempted to
hit Payne with his briefcase, Lesnar ended up pulling him off
the apron and carrying the not so light Bolin over his head to
the back. The match then came to an end as Synn and Swail took
out who we thought was Jerome Crony, although he had his face
taped up because of a fireball attack and took him to the back.
Next the real Jerome Crony of Bolin Services came out as
Damien was about to get a pinfall and did a top rope elbow
drop and allowed Rico and Prototype to pick up the pinfall.

-Winners via pinfall Rico & Prototype

-David Flair & Ron Waterman vs. Jason Lee & Derrick King

-This was another great technical match as you might expect
and Suicide Blonde match to be, but the team of Waterman and
Flair were also impressive on the technical side. I'm really
glad that OVW is making Flair into a respectable technical
wrestler, it is by far the right decision. Flair has improved
immensely since joining OVW. The match started off with
Ron Waterman overall dominating the physical end really
delivering some high impact to Derrick King who is hilarious,
and tremendously over with the crowd. Lee had an impressive
second rope spring board 180 elbow drop. The match came
to an end as Derrick King pulled out a pair of brass knuckles
and attempted to use them against Flair, but Flair saw this
and pulled them away and used them on King costing the Blondes
    the match.

-Winners David Flair & Ron Waterman via pinfall

-After the match the Suicide Blondes went up to the commentators
booth and said that the only reason that they lose like that
was because no one had their back and announced that next week
they would unveil a new member of the Suicide Blondes to the
world who will have their back. I am very anxious to see who
this will be as the team of Derrick King and Jason Lee are
by far the most under rated tag team or individual wrestlers
in OVW besides maybe Casey, Michaels or Spade.

    -Bobby Eaton vs. Mr. Black
    DARK MATCH

-This was by far, in my own opinion, the worst match of the
night with nothing but kicks and punches. Usually Black's
matches aren't that bad with some wrestling moves thrown in
the mix. This match drew a Boring Chant from the usually
loyal OVW crowd, which is a rare thing to hear. The match
ended with the only move of the match being Eaton's Swinging
Neck Breaker to pick up the pinfall.

    -Winner Bobby Eaton via pinfall

    -Nick Dinsmore Machine
Rob Conway vs. Big Bad John
    Bull Buchanan Victoria

-Another excellent match opening with a good brawl between
Machine and Buchanan. Victoria was then momentarily tagged
in and pulled off an impressive standing moonsault, but then
tagged out. Big Bad John was then tagged in, who is starting
to show some sort of improvement compared to the past few weeks
and pulled off an devestating second rope fall away slam, from
a viewers perspective this was an injury waiting to happen
but was pulled off very impressively and successfully. Victoria
was tagged in once again only to miss a Top Rope Moonsault. The
match then came to an end with a man, who I couldn't recognize
running in and laying out Dinsmore and allowing Victoria to
get the pinfall over Dinsmore. After the match Flash comes in
with a Trashcan lid and literally takes a swing and connects
with practically everyone in the ring, for the members of
the Parents Television Council monitoring, no he did not hit
Victoria. The show then went off the air from there wrapping
up another great night of OVW.

-Winners Machine, Big Bad John & Victoria via pinfall
