Behind The Shotgun's Barrel Submitted by Carlos Shotgun on Sunday, September 16, 2001 at 12:18 AM EST
Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of Behind The Shotgun's Barrel in its new home. After a long while down in the Phat Pharm it looks like we are ready for the big leagues.
For those of you who are wondering my name is Carlos A. Shotgun and I am from Puerto Rico, that's all you need to know about me, lets go to the main topic, wrestling.
By now I believe everyone in the world knows about the tragedy that happened in New York, I live in Puerto Rico which is an island south of Florida and the only US colony (or something), down here we were just as shocked like if we were right there in the US. How could so many innocent people die in such a short period of time? Everyone is in a loss and this week the main point wasn't wrestling or its angles, Smackdown itself was more "how do wrestlers feel about this whole thing" instead of a way to sell Unforgiven.
In case no one knows I don't get Smackdown because we don't get UPN down here, so everything I say about Smackdown is stuff I read, not saw.
Smackdown is getting a lot of heat for being aired, many wonder why would the WWF try to sell their show when America is in such state? I for one look at it differently. Most channels are airing 24 hour news from New York, during the week I flipped through the channels and pretty much every channel were airing news instead of our normal shows, the usual sitcoms that make us laugh, usual cartoons that entertain us, its almost like all of them lined up to make us just think about the terrorist attack, nothing more. I think all of us have seen enough and heard enough about the situation, America is ready to be entertained, America needs to somehow get a smile on their faces and TV isn't helping.
Let me try to explain myself from another angle. Imagine someone close to you dies (god forbid), would you rather have all for friends reminding it to you 24/7 or would you try to get your mind off the topic? Hey it happened to me, and I am still grateful that my friend did everything he could to make me laugh in the moment of my loss, it doesn't make it any less important if you smile or laugh, that's life, you must move on, I did and America needs to do the exact same thing, but how can they when everywhere they look they are reminded of what happened.
The way I look at it Smackdown tried to entertain the people who were at home tired of the situation, people who were mentally worn out of such a tragic event and decided to just sit back and if its possible for just a few hours to take a break and forget such tragedy ever happened, that's why I think Smackdown was aired. Was it disrespectful? Tasteless? You can call it whatever you want, I call it an attempt to soften America's wound and the first step to move on, tomorrow will be another day, we can not turn back time, we cant bring those two towers back, but we can pray and we can move on, like everything in life we got to move on.
And oh yeah, for those of you who want World War 3 please think about what you want, to go to war is to kill, the number of Americans who could die in a war could be higher than the number of the people who died in this incident, so don't talk about War like if it is a cool thing, death isn't pretty.
So what's next? What will happen next week? Well the stock market will open on Monday, the usual shows will play on our favorite channels, we will get our Monday Night Raw, we will get Smackdown and we will settle down and everything will be back to normal, that's what I hope anyway.
-Unforgiven
Unforgiven is near and the main event will be Austin vs. Angle 2, it is worthy to note that it will be in Pittsburgh, PA and that is Angle's hometown. I wouldn't be surprised if Angle walked with the gold this time, the only thing I can say is that if Austin wins, please give us a nice clean finish, I think Summer Slam is still stained because of the ending of Austin/Angle.
Also worthy to note is that The Rock will go against both Shane and Booker T for the WCW title, I guess that way it works is if team Shane/Booker wins then Booker T will be the new champ. I think Booker T should win the title in account that he hasn't done anything without the WCW title, Booker T's character has really been buried the last couple of days and winning the title back just might set his career on the right track, besides its not like The Rock is a great WCW champ, that's the problem with the WWF/WCW/ECW thing, its almost like if The Rock was above the WCW title, the WCW name will never be what it once was.
And finally the only other official match in the card is a personal favorite, Edge vs. Christian. I myself have always been a big fan of both and I always thought Christian was just a little bit better than Edge, this feud reminds everyone of the great Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart feud, personally I don't care, I just want to see if this match can steal the card or if RVD will once again steal the match of the night, speaking of which he doesn't even have an opponent yet, its sad when the man is getting RVD chants during a Rock match and he doesn't even have a PPV match yet.
-Goodbye
Well this has been the first edition of Behind The Shotgun's Barrel, I hope that many more will follow, I'd like to thank every fan out there who has supported me and a big hello to my new colleagues here at LOP, it is an honor to write alongside you.
Before I go I think I should point out that I am currently sick with pneumonia and since I am a smoker it will take longer to heal than usual, on Monday I will get checked by doctors and see if I need to be hospitalized, don't worry, I feel fine, and I'm positive I wont die or anything, so until next time this is Carlos Shotgun saying.
Thank you very much. -Carlos A. Shotgun lateralus@lordsofpain.net
