DBE

Welcome back to DBE, (please excuse the name). I know that it’s been one terrible week for all of us, but if this allows a few of us some escape of reality for even 5 minutes, then so be it.

I could state the obvious, but I’d rather not any more than CNN forces us to. If you are honestly interested in my thoughts on this week’s events, you can read this article that me and my friend Jason wrote.

Where’s Jim Duggan when you need him? Think back to when Desert Storm was going on. Do you remember who was the "Real American Hero"? Yeah, of course….Papa Shango! No, that’s not right.

Oh, it was Hulk Hogan. Remember how horrible you felt when you saw Hogan being kicked and beaten by the Iraqi faction? Remember how horrible you felt when you saw that it was one of your own, Sgt. Slaughter, being the main perpetrator?

If you were an American, you felt saddened by this act. But American retribution was swift and unlike any I’d seen before. I was about 9 years old, so that was my first experience with anything of that nature.

But think about how good you felt when you saw Hogan return the next week to take the WWF championship from Sgt. Slaughter at WrestleMania. But then, after declaring that he was a real American, he was burned on his way back to the locker room by the Iraqi faction. A ball of fire was thrown into his face.

Several months later, you have Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior kicking the shit out those damn Iraqis. Once again, American pride was restored in the children across the nation, and you knew that Hogan was your hero.

I wasn’t rejoicing though. Not because I’m not American, but simply because even at that age I didn’t like Hogan. What a sin, I know. But I was such an Ultimate Warrior mark that my psyche wouldn’t allow me to like Hogan, even if he was the American Hero.

Now, a new day has come. A new enemy has arrived. A new American Hero is born.

    (That’s a dramatic segue)

Although I seriously doubt a repeat of that type of angle will occur. I don’t see the WWF having the gall to do something this disgraceful.

If you aren’t quite sure what I’m getting at, (I’m probably not the first to bring this up, but I haven’t read it anywhere else, so I’m going with it) but what if the WWF brought back Tiger Ali Singh to play the evil Turbanator, and Kurt Angle to play the American Hero? That would be pretty low on the WWF’s count. But I seriously doubt they would do that, I mean Vince does have a bit more compassion then what we like to credit him for.

Even if it would finally get Tiger Ali over, I don’t think it’s worth the public risk of all the repercussions that would come from it. Do you remember that the year of Desert Storm, WrestleMania was supposed to be outside, but there was the threat of Sgt. Slaughter being shot by some crazy Americans? Just think what people would do now.

Oh well, I was just entertaining the thoughts of this. I really don’t have much to say this week, but I just wanted to give you guys something else to read besides misery. As always, thanks for taking the time out to read my work. Special thanks to my boy TommyTaz16 for walking me back down memory lane and helping me remember some important details that made this column.

Koltershock: If you don’t know what it is, what are you waiting for? An eye-opening experience for all over 18.
