Bash Flashback: Celebrate July 4 with new Crockett wrestling database
For wrestling fans, Independance Day has long had a association with the Great American Bash, the summer stadium tour and pay-per-view produced by Jim Crockett Promotions.
Now you can relive not only the Bash but all Crockett action dating back to 1983 with a new database available at http://www.thehistoryofwwe.com.
Graham Cawthon, The History of WWE.com's editor, said the launch of the database is the culmination of months of work.
"I got the idea back in March and it's been almost a daily project ever since," Cawthon said. "There are a lot of stories out there that the average fan isn't aware of - from legendary bouts in Greensboro, Charlotte, or Raleigh to historic confrontations at the old WPCQ or WTBS studio.
"In many ways, Jim Crockett Promotions surpassed the WWF during the 80s," he continued. "While the production value wasn't on par with Saturday Night's Main Event, one could argue both the in-ring action and the talent roster were far superior to what was going on up north."
The database - which aims to provide in-depth results for every JCP card held from 1983 until the sale to Ted Turner in 1988 - will also include TV results, title histories, tournaments, and NWA title defenses outside the territory.
Cawthon said he hopes to do for the Crockett promotion what has already been done for WWE, WCW, and ECW - provide a hub for new and old fans alike and keep wrestling history alive.
The History of WWE.com was created in February 2002 with the intent of documenting in detail all the in-ring action of the WWE dating back to its inception in 1963. Over the years, the website has grown to include WCW and ECW results, thousands of newspaper clippings and promotional advertisements, match listings for WWE home videos and DVD releases, a thriving message board, title histories, audio interviews, columns, and reviews.
The website has attracted praise from wrestling journalists ("An amazing and excellent resource that I use almost daily to double check facts." - Mike Johnson, PWInsider.com), book authors ("Invaluable" - Michael Krugman, Andre the Giant: A Legendary Life), and wrestlers themselves ("We love your site." - Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant).
