SmackDown! Report (10/24/08): The Deadly Game! (Triple H v. Undertaker)
Submitted by MIK on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 12:16 AM EST
Friday Night SmackDown! Friday 8/7 ET Laredo, Texas
Hello everybody! Tonight’s edition of SmackDown! is brought to you from the host state of WrestleMania 25, Texas. But it gets better than that as we will witness for the first since WrestleMania 17, The Undertaker facing Triple H (in the Lone Star State) in what is sure to be a deadly game!
Prior to the show, we are shown a tribute to the late Leah Maivia (1927-2008)
The new SmackDown! video package rolls and fireworks go off as JR and Tazz welcome us to another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! We are informed that Triple H will take on The Undertaker later on tonight.
“King of Kings” plays and out comes Triple H to a great ovation.
Triple H gets on the microphone. He says that is it just him or is it that everybody is sick about Vickie Guerrero. He calls her an annoying hag and says that she thinks she has the ability to tell everyone else what to do. The Game says that he know Vickie would usually come out here and try to make him stop talking, but she won’t do that right now, because before he came down to the ring, he saw a big Twinkie’s Truck, and Vickie will most probably be there grazing for hours. Triple H insults her some more and says that the only reason he is booked to face The Dead Man tonight is because she wants Triple H to destroy him, because if he doesn’t, then the Undertaker may make sure that The Game won’t make it to Cyber Sunday.
At this point, Jeff Hardy’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring to a very good ovation. He gets on the microphone.
Jeff says that this voting gig is kind of like a popular contest where he will most likely be voted in by the WWE Universe to face Triple H. He adds that there is also a good chance that he will take the WWE Championship from The Game as well.
Vladimir Kozlov’s music hits and he comes out and stops at the ramp to speak.
Kozlov basically says that these people won’t vote for him because they are scared that he will take the title away from Triple H. He guarantees that it won’t be too long before he actually will be given a shot and that’s when he will become champion.
Triple H says he didn’t understand a single word Kozlov had just said, but if were to guess then it was probably around the lines of “I want to be WWE Champion.” The Game says it doesn’t matter who gets voted in, because this is going to happen…
Triple H turns Jeff Hardy around and hits the Pedigree and has a staredown with Kozlov as JR and Tazz plug the WWE Championship Match.
(Segment Rating: 4.5/5. Excellent segment here. The Game really tries and continues to impress me with his silly shenanigans.)
Triple H makes his way around backstage when the lights go out. He turns around and The Undertaker stands face to face with the Game…

A recap from the Fuzzy Dice Match from last week is shown where Maria was victorious and became the No. 1 contender for Michelle McCool’s title.
Maria’s music hits and she and McCool make their way down to the ring together.
Maryse and Natalya then enter the ring together.
JR and Tazz plug the WWE Divas Halloween Costume Contest for Cyber Sunday.
Hurricane Helms pops up in a small box across the screen and says “Divas…Giggity! I’m Just Sayin’.”
Match 1: Maria & Michelle McCool v. Maryse & Natalya McCool and Maryse start things off. McCool gets the advantage by eventually getting in a nice firemans carry on the French diva. As they get back up, Maryse manages to lock in a wristlock, but McCool goes to the middle rope and does a backflip to break the hold. Nice athleticism! McCool then attempts a judo flip, but Natalya distracts her which allows Maryse to take down the All American Girl. The heel divas make quick tags and continue to work on McCool when all of a sudden so mariachi music plays. Jesse, Festus, and a bunch of other men come down to the ring dressed up. McCool reverses a few holds and hits a spinning neckbreaker on Maryse. Festus offers Maria a rose and she accepts. McCool reaches towards Maria for a tag, but Maryse gets a school boy from behind for the 1-2-3. Bell ring, this means Festus goes crazy! He chases all the other men out of the ring area.
(Match/Segment Rating: 2.5/5. A good match at times with a funny sequence in the end.)
WWE Did You Know? WWE Magazine sells more copies at newsstands than Sports Illustrated & ESPN Magazine combined.
We see Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely in the ring together.
The Caribbean brothers, Carlito and Primo, are introduced as their opponents.
Match 2: Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely v. Carlito & Primo Colon Carlito and Chavo start things off. The two lockup and Chavo gets the early advantage with a sweep and a headlock. Carlito manages to get back to his feet and dropkick the Mexican Warrior and proceeds to tag in his younger brother. The brothers do a nice double team sequence of maneuvers that ends in a headbutt to the lower back area of Chavo from Primo. As Primo tries to build the momentum, Chavo backs off and slaps Bam across the chest for the tag. Primo uses his speed to get passed Neely’s offense, but eventually gets caught by a massive clothesline. Neely Irish Whips Primo, but Carlito gets the blind tag and the brothers wind up doing a double suplex to the bodyguard. Chavo tries getting into the ring, but Carlito gets in a nice hip toss onto Neely. Primo is tagged in and they double team on Neely until powers out of it and tags in Chavo. Chavo sends Primo to the corner and boasts to Neely. Primo sees an opportunity and strikes, but gets hit with a spinning wheel kick. Chavo tags in Neely and pounds Primo in their corner. Neely backs off and charges at Primo, but he dodges it and Neely accidentally knocks Chavo off the apron. In the meantime, Primo tags in Carlito and he begins to dominate Neely by striking with numerous forearm shots and a nice spinning neckbreaker. Carlito covers, but Chavo breaks the pinfall. Neely and Chavo argue and Chavo slaps Neely across the face. Off this distraction, Carlito hits the BackStabber from behind and the brothers get the victory.
Post-Match: Chavo walks up the ramp yelling at Neely as the Brothers celebrate in the ring. Hurricane Helms pops up in a mini box and makes a comment regarding the break up of Chavo/Neely.
(Match Rating: 3/5. This match was rather pretty good. The constant fighting of the heels and the eventual face victory was a nice touch.)
We are shown another promo about Kizarny.

Carlito comes in and the two brothers eventually argue (for fun) about driving Brie away.

We see a clip from 2 weeks ago where R-Truth approached Kung Fu Naki.
R-Truth’s music hits and he makes his way through the crowd rapping. They really dig this guy. His partner is Kung Fu Naki who makes his way down to the ring t a new theme song. He is dressed up in a Karate outfit.
MVP comes out. Hurricane Helm insults MVP in another one of his comment box. MVP’s partner is Shelton Benjamin.
Match 3: R-Truth & Funaki v. MVP & Shelton Benjamin R-Truth and MVP start things off, but MVP asks Truth to tag in Kung Fu Naki. He is indeed tagged in and he receives a good ovation. MVP turns his back on Kung Fu Naki and he surprises MVP with a nice judo hip throw. MVP looks a little concerned. MVP charges at Kung Fu Naki, but gets caught with a armdrag. MVP tries fighting back, but gets is striked in his lower abdomen. MVP has enough and tags in Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin corners Funaki, but receives the fate as did MVP. Funaki proceeds to tag in R-Truth, Benjamin gets a nice counter and eventually pounds Truth in the corner. Benjamin tags in MVP and MVP finally builds momentum when he hits a modified version of a monkey flip. MVP Irish Whips Truth, but Truth counters with a spinning forearm shot. Truth tags in Funaki and Funaki goes up top and hits a super brain chop. Funaki uses a few more Karate maneuvers and takes down MVP. Funaki covers, but Benjamin breaks the count. Truth gets in the ring and takes Benjamin to the outside. MVP then sneaks up from behind Truth and knocks him to the outside as well. Funaki is in a stance and the crowd is behind him. Funaki drills MVP in the throat with a high karate kick for the win!
Post-Match: Kung Fu Naki and R-Truth celebrate and they get a nice ovation from the crowd.
(Match Rating: 3.5/5. Seriously, this was some funny stuff. I’m not usually a big fan of these things, but since it occurred after a long time, it was pretty awesome to see this gimmick change of Kung Fu Naki.)
Backstage, Primo and Carlito talk about who gets to date Brie Bella. They decide that Primo will be given that chance. They see Brie’s twin sister and Primo approaches her by grabbing at her waist. She rejects Primo and walks off. Carlito asks how it went and Primo responds by saying that he thinks he is in love. The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh approach the two brothers and tells Primo that he has no game and they walk off, telling the brothers to watch Khali’s Kiss Cam. Primo tells Carlito that Khali and Singh are cool.

JR and Tazz plug the latest edition of the WWE Magazine.
The Great Khali’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring with Singh, who has an enormous bag of love letters stored up. He grabs a microphone. Khali says something in his language while Singh pours the bag of letters around the ring. Singh translates for him that Khali says that Khali has received thousands of love letters from around the world. Singh proceeds to read two letters, both that state they found a new crush in Khali. Unfortunately, one of the letters is from a dude!!! Khali tears that paper up. Singh says that tonight, Khali will make a woman’s dream come true. They eventually pick this beautiful girl probably in her early twenties and bring her to the ring. Singh asks what could possibly be better than kissing one girl? Kissing two! They bring in another female, but this one is rather large and not so good looking as the first. Khali attempts to kiss the first, but Singh stops him saying that anyone can kiss that one, but it takes a real man to kiss the larger one. Singh gets the crowd behind Khali and he eventually lays one on her.
(Segment Rating: 2/5. Sorry, but I’m not that big of a fan of this segment.)

JR and Tazz plug the Triple H/Undertaker match.
A WrestleMania 25 promo is shown.
The Brian Kendrick makes his way down to the ring with Ezekiel.
Kendrick’s opponent is Super Crazy.
Match 4: The Brian Kendrick v. Super Crazy Bell rings and Super Crazy dominates Kendrick with numerous strikes, dropkicks, and a tilt-a-whirl slam. Crazy proceeds to stomp Kendrick until the referee finally pulls Crazy off of him. Off this distraction, Kendrick hits a kick to Crazy’s face and follows it up with the The Kendrick for the win.
Post-Match: Ezekiel gets in the ring and he hits his signature Rock Bottom-like maneuver.
(Match Rating: 2/5. It was okay and short…short.)

The Deadman then strikes with numerous boxing blows to various parts of Triple H’s body. Undertaker then connects with a massive clothesline, but gets a 2 count. Undertaker proceeds to work on the Game’s arm and signals for Old School, but Triple H stops him by delivering a punch to the mouth to the Phenome. Triple H tries an Irish Whip, but Undertaker reverses it and proceeds to charge at the Game with a running big boot, but Triple H dodges it and Undertaker foot gets caught with the turnbuckle. As Undertaker makes it back to his feet, Triple H connects with a chop block. Triple H now begins to work on the left leg of the Deadman. Not long after however, Undertaker shoves Triple H off and both men clothesline each other down. Both men get up and take it to each other with right hand shots. Undertaker appears to get the better however as he takes Triple H down after a couple of shots. Undertaker then goes for the big boot following a Snake Eyes, but receives a Harley Race-like knee to the face. The Game covers, but gets a 2 count. Crowd is getting a bit anxious. Triple H then connects with his signature facebuster and attempts a Pedigree, but he is catapulted into the turnbuckle. Undertaker gets back up and he strikes Triple H down with a big boot followed by a leg drop. Undertaker covers, but he too gets a 2 count. Undertaker goes up for Old School again, but Triple H trips the leg of Undertaker this time and Triple H manages to connect with a Super-Plex. Game covers, but another nearfall! As Undertaker makes it to his feet, Triple H clotheslines him over the ropes, but Undertaker lands on his feet. Triple H tries to go attack him, but Undertaker pulls him out of the ring and eventually sends him crashing into the steel steps. Undertaker then sets Triple H up on the apron and connects with his signature leg drop to the throat of the Game. After another nearfall, Undertaker signals for The Last Ride. As he lifts Triple H up, the Game counters with a reverse neckbreaker. The Game gets a 2 count and he picks up the Deadman for an Irish Whip, but gets knocked down after a flying clothesline. Undertaker singles for chokeslam. He grabs Triple H by the throat and sends him to the ropes and eventually hits the thunderous Double A Spinebuster. After a two count, Undertaker sits up! Triple H punches at the Deadman, but Undertaker grabs him by throat again. As Triple H is lifted in the air, he gets back down and attempts a Pedigree. Undertaker however, reverses it and turns Triple H around for the Tombstone, but the Game slides off and rams Undertaker into the turnbuckle. Triple H now attempts the 10 punches from the corner, but Undertaker switches it into The Last Ride! At this point, The Big Show comes out and delivers several blows to the abdomen of the Undertaker. Referee calls for the bell
Post-Match: Big Show chokes Undertaker down. In the mean time, Triple H goes out of the ring and whacks Big Show across the back with a steel chair. This doesn’t affect the Giant and he eventually Chokeslam’s the Game. Big Show then picks up the chair and drills Undertaker with it twice!
(Match Rating: 4/5. This high profile match was a really good one despite a DQ finish. It contained numerous false finishes and was very well responded from the crowd)

Kozlov then charges at the Game with his diving head shot. Finally Kozlov hits his reverse neckbreaker and leaves the Game immobilized to end the show…

Smack of the Night: Triple H vs. The Undertaker
Overall, tonight’s show was a really good one considering all the hype that was given to it. The wrestling match between Triple H and The Undertaker reminded me of classic times as these two put on one helluva match! It’s very strange for me to believe, but it really appears as though the Blue Brand is currently the most favorable brand in the WWE right now and the main event showed just why it is – pure wrestling from top to bottom. Final Rating: 8/10.
