SmackDown! Report (10/03/08): A Night of Champions! Submitted by MIK on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 10:02 PM EST
Friday Night Smackdown! Fridays 8/7 ET Green Bay, Wisconsin
Good Evening! I hope you all enjoyed the world television premiere of WrestleMania XXIV last night as a part of WWE’s 1-2 Punch. This only means that to finish things off, we conclude our week with another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! on it’s new network, MyNetwork TV! Unfortunately, I have a standardized test scheduled for tomorrow which prevented me from writing the report myself. As a result, the following is from ProWrestling.net
A brand new Smackdown video aired. Fireworks lit up the stage. Jim Ross and Tazz welcomed us to the first show on My Network. A graphic featuring the top stars on all three brands was shown. JR and Tazz plugged tonight's triple threat world champion's main event.
1. Batista, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy, and Finlay (with Hornswoggle) defeated MVP, JBL, The Brian Kendrick (with Ezekiel Jackson), and Kane in 15:46. Hurricane Helms appeared on the screen during MVP's entrance. I could not really hear him because there are loads of people at my house right now enjoying my stuff. Finlay got the best of Kendrick as the show went to commercial.

Kendrick was still taking the beating for the heel team coming back from commercial. Jackson closelined Finlay on the floor. JBL tagged in to work on his Wrestlemania opponent. MVP tagged in and Finlay continued to sell the heel offense. Batista received the hot tag and took out everyone with spinebusters.
Batista powerslammed MVP and tagged in Mysterio. Mysterio splashed MVP from Batista's shoulders. Mysterio set both Kendrick and MVP up for a 619. As Mysterio hit the ropes, Kane grabbed his foot and pulled him violently out the floor.

Kane scored a nearfall on Mysterio coming back from commercial. JBL tagged in and mocked Batista while hitting a fallaway slam on Mysterio. MVP and Kendrick enjoyed offensive success on Mysterio as well. All hell broke loose as everyone eliminated each other. Mysterio hit the 619 on MVP and Hardy followed up with the Swanton for the win.
JR introduced a video package showcasing the feud between The Undertaker and Big Show. Show was shown walking through the backstage area going to commercial.

Backstage, Teddy Long, Mike Adamle, and Tiffany were talking. Show approached and told them to leave his office. Chavo told Show he should be in charge because they were both Guerreros. Show said Vickie was absent because of Chavo. He told Chavo he had a match tonight.
2. Santino Marella (with Beth Phoenix) defeated Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match in 2:11. Helms popped up during Santino's entrance and said Honky Tonk Man would roll over in his grave but he was not dead. He was just saying. Santino put up the Honk-A-Meter and JR loved it.

Benjamin cut a pretaped promo on the Titantron before his entrance. He called Santino Beth's girlfriend. During the match, R-Truth came out to his usual entrance. Shelton was distracted and Santino scored the surprise pinfall.
After the match, Truth asked Shelton "What's up?" from the ramp. Shelton looked pissed.

Big Show came out and said that he had the show handled in Vickie Guerrero's absence. He thought Vickie would be pleased with Chavo's match tonight.
3. The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) and Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas) defeated Chavo Guerrero in 1:39. Chavo was pissed at Show. Henry and Khali exchanged tags multiple times. Khali locked in the Khali Vice and the referee called for the bell as Show applauded.
After the match, Show knocked out Chavo with a right cross. Show grabbed a mic and said he would do to Taker what he did to Chavo. Taker's gong struck and the lights went in and out. Show left the ring and Taker appeared in the ring. Both men stared each other down and Taker did his throat slashing gesture.

4. C.M. Punk, Carlito, and Primo Colon defeated Ted Dibiase, Cody Rhodes, and Manu in 3:48. The heels gave a pretaped promo about how Raw is the superior brand in WWE. Carlito said he turned the match into a six man tag because he did not want Manu to stand on the floor looking like an idiot. Punk made his entrance.
Primo looked good early and tagged in Punk, who was thrilled to get a piece of Dibiase. Punk scored a two count after the high knee and bulldog combination. After everyone else took care of each other, Punk hit the GTS on Dibiase for the win.
Jesse and Festus were shown backstage watching the show. JR thanked them for doing the heavy moving.
The Diva lumberjills made their way out to the ring.

5. Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool in a non-title match in a lumberjack match in 3:46. Maryse distracted Michelle, allowing Beth to hit her finisher for the win.
Matt Hardy and Triple H made their ring entrances.

6. Triple H defeated Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho in a non-title match in 12:22. Lance Cade did not accompany Jericho to the ring due to the beating he was given by DX on Monday. JR and Tazz made nice points about Triple H being able help Shawn Michaels against Jericho and Matt Hardy being able to help his brother against Triple H.
Triple H and Jericho paired off while Hardy waited on the canvas. After Jericho went down, Hardy went after Triple H. Jericho hit his springboard dropkick on H, but Hardy was taken out as well.

Coming back from commercial, Jericho took the advantage on the faces after countering a Twist of Fate attempt by Hardy. Hardy went to the top, Jericho went up for the superplex, and Triple H came in and hit the powerbomb spot with all three men crashing to the canvas.
H applied a sleeper to Jericho. He broke it up and applied the Walls of Jericho on H. Jericho pulled H back to the middle of the ring after he could not reach the ropes. Hardy interrupted and Jericho turned his attention to him. After Hardy hit a Side Effect on Jericho, H hit the Pedigree for the win.
After the match, Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Triple H. He then threw a ladder into the ring. Jeff Hardy came out to make the save. As he was checking on Matt, Triple H approached Jeff, who promptly hit a Twist of Fate on him. Jeff climbed the ladder to assumingly hit the Swanton on Triple H. However, Vladimir Kozlov hit the ring and Jeff jumped at him instead. Kozlov laid out both Jeff and Triple H and stood triumphantly as the show went off the air.
