The show started with ring announcer Justin Roberts arriving to the ring to tell the fans that they could vote via text message for the stipulations of the main event, either a falls-count-anywhere match, a 2 out of 3 falls match or a no-DQ match. Then WWE Diva Eve was spotlighted in the top row of the arena to ask a fan a trivia question ( Who won the 2008 Royal Rumble?). The young man answered correctly and he his whole group of 4 was moved to the front row. Next, Armando Estrada came to the ring receiving much heat. He posed around then announced 4 of the matches of the night. Estrada stayed ringside during the first match. Match 1: Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin Kofi received a nice pop after he was introduced. Shelton provided much of the offence of the match at one point throwing Kofi into the corner, causing Kofi's head to recieve a nasty bounce off a turnbuckle. However Kofi did a quick sunset flip into a roll up for the win. Shelton is a true wrestler and the WWE should consider resurrecting an old title like the European Championship or the old NWA Television Title for a wrestler the caliber of Shelton to hold. Match 2: Funaki vs. Vladimir Kozlov Vladimir got tons of heat before the match and the U.S.A. chants broke out immediatly. Funaki did a top rope dive but Vladimir caught him and executed a nice powerslam for the win. Vladimir is an impressive looking grappler and for us fans who grew up in the Eighties it's nice to have a Russian character to boo. Match 3: Diva match Cherry vs. Natalya Cherry ran around the ring slapping hands with the fans before the match. Three little girls sitting in front of me loved her and cheered all match for her. Natalya took the mike before the match and said that she was a third generation diva and that Cherry didn't belong in her ring. She then bullied Cherry, slapping her and saying "What are you going to do, Cherry?" Then Cherry slapped her back and the match started. Cherry did a top rope dive during the match and missed, but was able to roll up Natalya for the win. There was some hard hitting for a Divas match. Next Eve came out and said she was excited to be back in her home state of Colorado. She then picked a young man to be a guest manager for C.M. Punks match. Match 4: Tag Team Title match: Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Champions John Morrison and the Miz The Miz and Morrison really worked the crowd for some big time heat before the match. Moore grabbed a "You Suck" sign from a fan and received a big pop. This was an excellent match with lots of flips, jumps and drop kicks. John Morrison is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the WWE and he should always be pushed. The fans love Jimmy Wang Yang and he doesn't disappoint them. Jimmy did a leap over the top rope to the floor but the Miz sidestepped him as Jimmy crashed to the floor. Then Miz reentered the ring to hit Shannon with a neckbreaker for the 1,2,3. Champs hold titles. Match 5: C.M. Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero with Bam Neely Punk is led to the ring by the young man who Eve picked out. Chavo really mixed it up with some fans in the front row, getting right into their faces and exchanging words. Chavo milked the start of the match by sliding out of the ring repeatedly and jarring at fans. This worked really well to build up the tension before the match. Once it got going the match cooked with Punk receiving most of the blows. Punk attempted a GTS but Neely jumped to the apron and Punk knocked him off using Chavo's feet. He was able to hit the GTS later for the win. Intermission Match 6: United States Title match MVP vs. Champion Matt Hardy Matt Hardy got a huge pop from the fans and got the crowd fired up by doing the pointing at parts of the arena and getting those fans to yell. This was a technical match fought mainly on the mat. M.V.P.,who had a few chants going for him, worked Hardy's left arm for most of the match. The two wrestlers got a good back and forth exchange going at the end with Matt hitting the Twist of Fate for the win. Hardy retains the title. Match 7: Mark Henry vs. The Big Show Show got a huge pop. This was exactly the kind of match you'd expect from two large wrestlers. There was alot of slapping, tests of strength and bear hugs. Mark Henry clotheslined Big Show over the top rope, which was cool to see a big man like Big Show go over the top. Big Show choke-slammed Henry but only got a 2 count. The match ended with Henry charging Big Show in the corner and Show connecting with a right hand for the pin. After the match Mark Henry got up slow, acted punch drunk swinging fists into the air. Good showmanship. Interesting note: this match was officiated by an ECW referee even though both of these guys are on the Smackdown roster. Match 8: The Main Event: Edge vs. Undertaker in a No DQ match Edge ripped fans signs going to the ring and jeered at fans. The house lights went out and the Undertaker received his expected huge pop. Taker came to the ring with no hat or coat or for that matter no World Title.
This was not a disappointing match. Edge and Taker went into the crowd early in the match going to the top row of fans. Undertaker hit Edge with a mike and also threw him into the ring stairs. Edge later used the stairs to hit Undertaker. This match saw Edge suplexing Taker from the top rope, double clotheslines and double boots to the face, knocking each men down. Edge took apart a turnbuckle and got dropped on it later. Taker attempted a choke slam but got low-blowed by Edge. Edge attempted a con-chair-to but got low-blowed by the Undertaker. Edge did hit Undertaker with the spear but the match ended with Taker hitting Edge with the Tombstone piledriver for the 1,2,3. This was a really fun house show. The ring was well miked so the slams sounded loud, as well as the ring stairs when Taker threw Edge into them. The WWE puts on a professional show. It is great to see the wrestlers really acknowledge and interact with the fans, as well as the WWE getting the young fans to be part of the show. The arena was 80% full and the show lasted almost three hours. Also of note, Red-Hat sign guy was in attendance sitting in Row 2, center ring. He met with fans and posed for pictures. His most interesting sign was a trashbag attached to a sign that said "Trash Collector, M.V.P. jump in." He offered M.V.P. a beer after M.V.P.'s match which M.V.P. threw on him. Biggest Pops: Undertaker,Big Show, Matt Hardy Most heat: Miz and Morrison,Armando Estrada,Vladimir Kozlov Fan Favorite Match: Edge vs. Undertaker Best Match: Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Miz and Morrison C-ya tonite at Raw in the Pepsi Center, Denver Co.
