Smackdown Results of 5/23/08 - La Familia Barred!

    Hello and welcome the report that covers the highest rated show on Friday night television, Friday night Smackdown! I’m your reporter, Christopher Huynh, here to give you the up and up on what went down on Smackdown! So enough with the introductions and lets get down with the Smackdown!

    Tonight’s Smackdown! comes to you from the great city of

    Tonight’s show starts off wit the Smackdown! theme video.

    The fans go wild, the pyros go off, and Michael Cole & Foley welcome us to the show.

    Vickie is wheeled to the arena by Edge.

    Opening Segement:

    Vickie states that none of the fans know how it is like to run a show like Smackdown! The fans start to boo loudly. She says that despite the pressures she faces she accomplishes her duties as a general manager. She states that one of her duties is to enforce the rules and regulations. She then goes on to state that championship cannot be won by count outs. She then states that it was Charles Roberson’s (Referee) fault for counting Edge out and giving Taker the title. She then states that One Night Stand is a PPV which all matches will compete in extreme rules. Edge helps her get out of the wheelchair. She then goes on to say that the most extreme match in extreme history will take place because it’s Edge vs. Taker in a TLC. She then goes on to state that if Taker loses it will be the last time to see him again. If he loses then Taker is barred from the entire WWE.

    Overall Segment Rating: This segment introduces Smackdown’s main event at One Night Stand really well. The fans gave heavy heat towards Vickie and Edge. The segment gets 8 out of 10 stars!

    We come back to Smackdown with Jesse, Festus, and Cherry heading towards the ring for their match.

    Maryse, Deuce, and Domino head to the ring for their match.

    Match #1: Jesse, Festus, and Cherry vs. Deuce, Domino, and Maryse

    The match starts with Festus attacking domino with a few fists. Festus knocks Domino out of the side of the ring. Festus then headbutts Domino on the floor and tags in Jesse. He grabs Jesse and throws him on Domino and he goes for the tag and gets a two. Domino tags in Deuce and Jesse gets him down and pounds on him. The match continues and with Jesse dominating Jesse. Deuce hits a clothesline off the ropes and tags in Domino who places Jesse in a headlock. Jesse tries to fight out and Domino stops him by hitting a powerbomb pin which gets a two. Domino tags in Deuce and he school boy pins Jesse for two. Deuce starts to use the ropes to choke out Jesse. Jesse starts to fight out with his fists desperately trying to tag Festus but Deuce pulls him into their corner and tags in Domino who gets Jesse down and hits a leg drop. Domino goes for the pin and gets two. Domino locks Jesse in a headlock. Jesse starts to pound his way out but Domino uses his knees to stop the momentum. He tags in Deuce and gets to the top rope and clubs Jesse on the arm. The match continues with Deuce hitting a few moves on Jesse and getting a quick pin for two. Deuce locks in a headlock and tries to throw Jesse into the turnbuckle but misses. Jesse starts to throw fists in every direction and hits a swinging neckbreaker on Deuce. Jesse tries for the tag but Deuce stops him. Jesse almost gets the tag but Deuce tags in Maryse which means Cherry automatically has to go in. Cherry starts to dominate early and Maryse tries to go for a clothesline. Cherry ducks and hits a bulldog. Deuce and Domino go in and interrupt Cherry but Jesse and Festus come in to even the score. Festus big boots Domino who inevitably hits Cherry. Jesse and Festus manage to get Deuce and Domino out of the ring. Cherry slowly rises up and Maryse hits some type of super kick. She goes for the pin and gets the 1…2…3!

    The winners of the match are Deuce, Domino, and Maryse!

    Overall Match Rating: It was an ok match but it was highly dominated by the Deuce, Domino, and Maryse side. I’m going to have to give the match 2 out of 5 stars.

    We cut backstage and Chavo enters the room with Edge and Vickie. He tries to make an understanding with Vickie and Edge. Vickie states that tonight Chavo will face Taker. Chavo states that he isn’t afraid and Edge says that the whole La Familia will be there to back him up.

    VIP lounge segment with special guest Theodore Long:

    We come back and MVP is making his way down to the ring for the VIP lounge.

    He starts to state that since he is in the ring things will be popping. He then states that tonight his guest is the former GM of Smackdown. MVP introduces Long. Long enters the arena and is getting some decent pop from the crowd. MVP starts by welcoming him to his VIP lounge. He goes on to state that he was going to give Long the floor to tell his side of the story but now he doesn’t feel like it. He says that he hasn’t forgotten what Long has made him go through since day one. He says that Long is jealous of MVP by clothes, money, and etc. He says that regardless of what he’s down he still prevails. Long starts to make his way out and MVP tries to get a little rough with Long. Batista interrupts and heads towards the lounge. MVP starts to complain and Batista stops him while he was ahead and says that he just wants to say goodbye to Long. He also says that next time MVP lays a hand on Long he will stick his fist down his throat. MVP starts to say that he shouldn’t worry about him but about the stretcher match against Shawn Michaels and that Batista is disrespectful. Batista starts to destroy the lounge and shows the things that are disrespectful. MVP moves out of the way and goes into the back leaving the lounge and making it the animal’s lair!

    Overall Segment rating: The segment was just a way to show the last time Smackdown will see Theodore Long however it was quite amusing. The segment gets 8 out of 10 stars.

    We come back and see that MVP is complaining to Vickie that Batista ruined his segment. Vickie states that he wants a match with Batista and that that match is on later on tonight.

    Finlay accompanied by Hornswoggle heads to the ring for Finlay’s match.

    Chuck Palumbo rides his way down to the ring for his match.

    Match #2: Finlay vs. Chuck Palumbo

    The match begins with Finlay getting behind Palumbo and hitting a jaw breaking maneuver. Palumbo gets Finlay into the corner and drags him down into a full body leg scissors in which Finlay struggles to get out. Finlay gets out and places Palumbo’s leg on the rope and kicks it. Finlay quickly loses momentum and Palumbo starts to use some big fists and kicks. He gets Finlay in the corner and hits a major head taking clothesline. Palumbo goes for the pin and gets a two. Palumbo locks in a headlock and uses to the knee to drive it into the spin. Palumbo gets Finlay into a corner and hits a few shoulder blocks. Palumbo then gives a huge fist and a knee to the gut. Hornswoggle uses a water gun and starts to spray Palumbo. Finlay tries to gain the advantage on the distraction but Palumbo knocks him down. Palumbo chases Hornswoggle and Finlay comes out of nowhere and hits a clothesline. Finlay goes in and breaks the count and Hornswoggle gets a little revenge. Finlay pushes Palumbo in the ring and slowly gets up on the side of the mat. Palumbo hits a big boot to the abdominal area of Finlay and knocks him off the side of the ring. Palumbo gets Finlay into the ring and hits a big clothesline. He then starts to pound on Finlay and Finlay manages to fight out and lock in an arm lock. Palumbo grabs the rope and Finlay breaks. Finlay picks Palumbo up and Palumbo hits a big boot to the head of Finlay. Palumbo then pins Finlay for a two count. Palumbo locks in a arm lock and Finlay starts to struggle. The match continues with Palumbo gaining more momentum. Palumbo locks in a headlock and Finlay punches his way out and runs towards the rope. On the rebound Palumbo hits a big boot and goes for the pin and gets a two. Palumbo gets up and starts to kick Finlay with hard kicks and goes for the pin attempt for another two. Palumbo locks in a headlock and Finlay hits a jaw breaker and crawls towards to corner. Palumbo gets up and runs towards Finlay. Finlay moves out of the way and clotheslines him into the corner. Palumbo rises up and Finlay goes in for another clothesline. Palumbo then rests in the corner and Finlay runs at him with a shoulder block. The match continues and Palumbo gets a clothesline. Palumbo drops to the floor and sees Hornswoggle insulting him. Palumbo grabs a hold of Hornswoggle and throws him into the ring. Hornswoggle gives a little green mist to Palumbo which blinds him. With the referee distracted Finlay grabs hold of the shillelagh and hits it on Palumbo’s head. Finlay goes for the pin and gets the 1…2…3!

    The winner of the match is Finlay!

    Overall Match Rating: It was a great match to see and amusing at the same time. The match gets 3 out of 5 stars.

    We cut backstage and see that MVP is getting ready for his match which is next!

    We come back and they run some video footage of the victory Batista got on Chris Jericho.

    MVP heads down to the ring and gets some major heat from the crowd.

    Batista heads to the ring for his match with MVP and gets some pop.

    Match #3: MVP vs. Batista

    The match starts with MVP trying to get a quick pin on Batista. This time they lock up and Batista gets a side headlock on MVP and MVP grabs a hold of the ropes. Batista breaks and they go at it again. MVP then gets behind MVP and locks in an armlock. Batista pushes him off and MVP recuperates in the corner. They lock up again and Batista locks in a side headlock. MVP tries to whip him off but Batista won’ let go. MVP starts to kick Batista in the legs to get out of the hold and runs towards the rope and Batista gives him a quick fist and MVP runs out of the ring. MVP gets back in the ring and hits a few fists to the head of Batista. He then locks in side headlock on Batista and Batista whips him off. Batista big boots MVP and MVP gets to the outside of the ring. Batista goes to the side mat and hits a hammer drop to the back of MVP. He throws MVP in and starts to work on him a little. MVP is in the corner and Batista runs straight at him. MVP then hits a drop toe hold and Batista’s head goes right into the turnbuckle. MVP measures Batista up for the kick and gets it. Batista flies out of the ring and the referee starts the count down.

    We come back and see that MVP is covering Batista. Batista grabs a hold of the ropes. MVP kicks Batista and maneuvers him away from the rope for a pin and gets two. MVP locks an inverted headlock and Batista struggles. Batista pushes MVP right into a corner and gives a few shoulder blocks. The referee pulls Batista out of the corner. Batista goes over to him and MVP kicks Batista. MVP goes to the top rope but Batista catches him. MVP however lands in such a way that he hits Batista’s arm. MVP goes in and starts to work on the arm using the ring pole. MVP moves towards Batista after the referee backs MVP away. MVP is close from Batista gaining the advantage but MVP pushes Batista right in to the turnbuckle. MVP starts to use the knee to attack the arm of Batista. MVP goes for the pin and gets a two. MVP locks in an arm/headlock. Batista gets to a vertical base and throws him off. MVP kicks Batista’s shoulder quickly and hits a swinging neckbreaker. MVP goes for the pin and gets the two. MVP waits in the corner waiting for the kick. Batista rises and MVP charges right at Batista. Batista gets up and hits the spear from out of nowhere. Batista goes for the pin and gets two. MVP gets up and runs towards Batista. Batista does a back body drop and MVP gets out of the ring. Batista goes after him and pushes him in the ring. Batista starts to throws MVP into ring posts but MVP comes back with a few kicks. MVP goes towards the woozy Batista and Batista hits the spinebuster. Batista singles the end and hits the Batista bomb for the 1…2…3!

    The winner of the match is Batista!

    Overall Match Rating: This match was amazing and showed great wrestling actions. I think that the match conversions for control were as follows: 70% MVP and 30% Batista. The match gets 3.5 out of 5 stars!

    They show some video footage of the happenings of Monday night Raw between Santino Morella ending up with Santino getting caked.

    Nunzio is the ring waiting for his opponent.

    Vladimir Kozlov heads to the ring for his match.

    Match #4: Vladimir Kozlov vs. Nunzio

    The match starts with Nunzio getting behind Kozlov. Kozlov throws him over and locks in a armlock. Kozlov throws Nunzio over and pins him with a bridge for a two count. Nunzio tries to fight Kozlov out but Kozlov does a belly to belly suplex. Kozlov gets Nunzio into the corner but Nunzio fights his way out for a quick second. Kozlov hits an amazing headbutt. Kozlov then sets up Nunzio into the corner and hits his unique move. He then sets Nunzio up for the Russian Rack for the 1…2…3!

    The winner of the match is Vladimir Kozlov!

    Overall Match Rating: Well… At least no we know that there are no more unknown jobber opponents for Kozlov. The match gets 1 out of 5 stars.

    We come back and see that Michael Cole and Foley thank the band for the One Night Stand theme song “Hell Yeah”.

    Matt Hardy heads to the ring for his tag team match.

    Kofi Kingston heads to the ring to meet up with his partner.

    Elijah Burke goes out and confronts his opponents.

    Shelton Benjamin goes out for his match with his partner.

    They run some video footage of Shelton ending Kingston’s streak.

    Match #5: Matt Hardy and Kofi Kingston vs. Elijah Burke and Shelton Benjamin

    The match starts out with Kingston and Burke. They lock up and Kingston hits a kick to the legs of Burke. Kingston locks in a leg lock. Elijah Burke manages to get out but Kingston gets a quick pin for two. Kingston drags Burke over and tags in Hardy. Hardy continues the pressure on Burke’s arm with an armlock. Burke presses Hardy into the corner. Hardy gets a cheap shot in and starts to work on Burke. Hardy gets to the top rope and hits the elbow right into Burke’s head. With Shelton distracting Hardy Burke manages to gain the advantage on Hardy and tags in Shelton. Shelton places Hardy over his head and tags in Burke for a double team maneuver. Burke goes for the pin and gets a two. Burke uses the rope to choke out Hardy and goes for the pin and gets a two. Burke tags in Shelton who locks in a headlock. Hardy manages to escape and Benjamin whips Hardy into a corner. Shelton runs at hardy but Hardy hits a side effect. Hardy tags in Kofi who does a few quick maneuvers. Kofi eventually ends with a leg drop to the mid section. He then goes to the top rope and hits his high flying maneuver. Kingston appears to go for the pin and Elijah comes in to interrupt. Hardy throws Elijah Burke out. While distracted with Burke Shelton pushes out Hardy. When Shelton turns around Kingston hits the trouble in paradise. Kingston goes for the pin and gets the 1…2…3!

    The winners of the match are Matt Hardy and Kofi Kingston!

    Overall Match Rating: The match was full of excitement and continues this Benjamin/Kingston feud which is amazing by my books. The match gets 3 out of 5 stars!

    Chavo w/ La Familia vs. Taker later on tonight!

    Raw Rebound is shown. It shows Regal losing his match against Kennedy and being fired.

    Michael Cole and Foley announce the current match card for One Night Stand.

    We cut backstage and we see that Chavo and La Familia are heading towards the ring for their match.

    The Undertaker makes his appearance made to the crowd and heads to the ring for his match.

    Chavo heads to the ring with La Familia acting very self conscience about himself.

    Match #6: Undertaker vs. Chavo

    The match starts with Chavo ducking a fist from Taker and start to throw some fists. The referee breaks him away and Taker grabs hold of him and starts to poundo n him in the corner. Taker then lifts Chavo up and whips him off the ropes. On the rebound Taker hits the big boot. Taker then lifts him up for the old school. Taker then locks in a chokeslam position but Chavo hold on to the rope. Taker then tries to go for the big boot but Chavo moves out of the way and Taker falls out of the ring. Chavo distracts the referee and La Familia attacks Taker. The referee turns around and orders that La Familia be removed from the ringside. Chavo then begins to work on Taker with fist. Taker however comes back with a few momentum changes but Chavo manages to get Taker out of the ring. Chavo then goes to the side of the ring and jumps off into Taker. Taker then pushes Chavo’s back into the side of the ring. The match continues and Chavo gains an advantage on Taker in the ring. Taker comes back with a big back baody drop. Chavo goes into the corner and Taker starts to throw some fists. Taker then whips him into another corner and hits the giant clothesline. Taker then whips Chavo into the ropes and on the rebound hits the big boot. Taker goes for the pin and gets a two count. Taker goes for the chokeslam but Bam Neely distracts the referee and Chavo hits a low blow. Chavo then goes to the top rope. Chavo jumps off and Taker catches him. Taker then hits the tombstone for the 1…2…3!

    The winner of the match is the Undertaker!

    Overall Match Rating: The match was full of surprises and action. The match gets 3.5 out of 5 stars!

    Match #6: Undertaker vs. Chavo
    The winner of the match is the Undertaker! (Taker hits the tombstone for the win)

    Smack of the night! (Match of the night) – Hard to choose but I had to guess that the Taker vs. Chavo match had the best excitement for the night.

    Segment of the night – The segment of the night is the VIP lounge it had more action than the beginning segment.

    Biggest Impact of the night – Taker’s tombstone hands down!

    Overall Show Rating –Tonight’s show was really great and jam packed with a lot of action and suspense if you didn’t read the spoiler… Any case tonight’s show gets 7.5 out of 10 stars!

    What will happen next week as we head into the last Smackdown! before One Night Stand? Will Taker send another message to his opponent Edge? Will MVP have something else to say to Batista? Who will step up to challenge Hardy?
