The show opened with Lillan Garcia thanking everyone for coming to the show.
Paul Birchill vs. Brian Kendrick
Birchill was heavily booed by the crowd, an Englishman wasn’t
going to get much favour in Northern Ireland, Birchill cut a promo before the
match saying that since he was English, that he was superior to the entire
Irish crowd.
Kendrick then came out to quite a big pop, the match itself
was actually very good for an opening match, with Birchill managing to show off
most of his good offense, before Kendrick countered a suplex into Sliced Bread
No. 2 for the pinfall victory.
Winner via Pinfall:
Brian Kendrick
Val Venis was then announced as the special referee for the
next match, which was a Divas tag-team match, Venis was actually booed by small
sections of the crowd, while the rest were mostly silent.
Maria & Mickie James vs. WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Katie Lee
All the Divas got their usual reactions, Heat for Beth &
Katie, while Maria and Mickie came out to rather sizeable pops.
A surprisingly good match, with Maria doing most of the
selling for Beth & Katie before making the hot tag to Mickie, who cleaned
house before pinning Katie with her finisher while Maria and Beth brawled
outside the ring.
Maria has actually come a long way in my opinion in terms of
her wrestling ability, I may be speaking too soon, but she has the potential to
another Trish Stratus if used properly.
Winners via Pinfall:
Maria & Mickie James
CM Punk vs. Carlito
Carlito was given good heat by the crowd during his
entrance, but Punk was given one of the biggest face pops of the night.
It was a fairly good match between these two, not the best
either one’s ever had in WWE, but still a solid match, the crowd was mega hot
during the match, with huge CM Punk chants occurring very regularly, Punk won
with the Go To Sleep, catching Carlito after his tried to do his apple spot,
the Apple flew everywhere, even into the ringside crowd after Punk kneed Carlito
during Go To Sleep.
Winner via Pinfall:
CM Punk
DH Smith vs. Snitsky
Crowd was mostly dead for both entrances, although DH Smith
was weirdly playing babyface, I thought he was turned heel on Heat?
The match itself wasn’t very good with almost no crowd
involvement, apart from a “Brush Your Teeth” chant aimed at Snitsky, it was almost
a squash, with Smith getting in very little offense, before Snitsky won with
the Pumphandle Slam.
Winner via Pinfall:
Snitsky
Santino Marella vs. William Regal
Santino got good heat in his entrance, before he cut a very
funny promo where he said the Irish come close but no cigar at everything they
do, from sports to fighting, he also put over Italians, saying they are not
like the Irish as they were strong and excelled in sports, he also said the
Irish flag was like the Italian flag, close but no cigar (it should be pointed
out that the Northern Ireland flag is not the same flag that the Republic of
Ireland uses, which is the one Santino was referring to)
William Regal then interrupted Santino, where he got mostly
the same reaction as Birchill did earlier, Regal then also cut a funny promo
where he put down Italy, mentioned that they have surrendered in every war they’ve
been involved in, also saying that they’re the only army in the world whose
tanks have 5 reverse gears...
Regal then started getting cheered by the crowd, and Regal
chants started, before he then announced he would be facing Randy Orton on the
next Raw, and that tonight as a warm-up, he would shut up Santino.
The match itself was ok, nothing to shout about, but not bad
either, with Regal picking up the win after a running knee to the face.
Winner via Pinfall:
William Regal
Lillan Garcia got the crowd to start singing Na Na Na Na,
Hey Hey, Goodbye at Santino as he left the ring.
WWE Tag Team
Championship match:
Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly (c) vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
I actually didn’t see this match thanks to a slow moving cue
at a concession stand, but from what I could hear from the arena, the crowd was
mostly dead for both entrances and the match, however it ended with Rhodes
& Holly retaining the titles, I was told that they teased tension between
Cade & Murdoch, with Cade leaving Murdoch standing in the ring after an argument.
INTERMISSION
WWE Intercontinental Championship match
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Umaga
Umaga came out to a very big heel reaction, while Jericho
had one of the biggest face pops of the night, even bigger than CM Punk’s.
The match itself was one of the best matches of the night,
with Umaga dominating the majority of it, while there was several teased
Jericho comebacks that Umaga kept cutting off, before Jericho eventually
retained the title after a Codebreaker.
Winner via Pinfall:
Chris Jericho
Umaga then laid out Jericho after the match (Future feud maybe? Hopefully, as this was a very solid match),
although Jericho again got a big pop as he recovered and left.
ECW Championship
Match
Kane (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero
Chavo came out to good heat, while Kane got a huge pop,
about the same as CM Punk’s.
Chavo cut a promo on Kane before the match, saying that he
had to prepare for 24 men at WrestleMania, yet Kane still felt the need to
attack him from behind, and that he was going to face Kane head on and take
back the ECW Title.
A good match between these two, they teased that there would
be the same finish as WrestleMania when Kane went for a Chokeslam right at the
beginning, but Chavo managed to escape, the match went on with Chavo targeting
Kane’s legs, before the finish came with Kane countering a Frog Splash attempt
into a Chokeslam for the pinfall.
Winner via Pinfall:
Kane
WWE Championship
Match
Randy Orton (c) vs. Triple H
Orton came out to easily the biggest heel reaction of the
night, while Triple H got the biggest pop of the night.
This was probably the best match of the night, with their
being plenty of good bumps, Triple H even throwing Orton into the crowd at one point,
as well as huge crowd involvement with Triple H, and Orton Sucks chants, Orton
hit the RKO, but the referee was injured, and Triple H kicked out of the
eventual cover.
William Regal then came down to the ring, and distracted the
referee for Orton to grab his belt, but Triple H hit a low blow and then hit
Orton with the belt before going for the cover, which was broken up by an
interfering Regal for the DQ finish.
Winner via DQ: Triple H (Randy Orton still WWE Champion)
Regal continued to attack Triple H after the match, but
Triple H fought him off, hitting a Pedigree while Orton left the ring, Triple H
then chased after Orton, bringing him back to the ring and nailing a Pedigree
on him as well, then posing with the WWE championship belt to end the show.
Overall, this was a good show, not the best one I’ve been to
in Belfast, and I’ve been to pretty much every one, but it was still a solid
show, mostly thanks to the always hot crowd there is when WWE’s in Belfast.
RAW will be back in Belfast for their Survivor Series tour
in November.
Biggest Pops:
1: Triple H
2: Chris Jericho
3: CM Punk & Kane
Biggest Heat:
1: Randy Orton
2: Umaga
3: Santino Marella & Chavo Guerrero
