ECW is 'Money' Results 04-01-08: A NEW Burning Champion!
Submitted by MIK on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 1:30 AM EST

WrestleMania 24 is over. A new champion has been crowned in the Land of Extreme…Kane! In addition, CM Punk has brought ‘money’ to ECW as he is officially “Mr. ‘Money’ In The Bank!” Will any announcements be made regarding the ECW Title or the MITB? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 95th edition of ECW on Sci-Fi and without further ado, let’s get down to the X-Stream!

    Miami Florida: American Airlines Arena

Tonight’s broadcast begins with highlights of the 24 man battle royal with Kane managing to win and further making quick work of Chavo and becoming the New ECW Champion.

Pyro’s go off and the Big Red Machine makes his way down to the ring to a standing ovation from the crowd. He grabs the mic and the arena dims a dark red light. Kane states that he had the satisfaction of unleashing destruction on 23 other man. Amongst those were Snitsky, Mark Henry, and The Great Khali. He said he earned the right to face Chavo for title and decimated him in a mere 8 seconds to become crowned the new champion. “ECW!” chants emerge from the audience. Kane further adds that ECW has seen some spectacular moments in sports entertainment, but nothing compares to what Kane has in store for all his combatants. Kane then gives us that devious laugh.

CM Punk’s music hits the arena and he walks down the ramp with the MITB Briefcase in hand. Kane sees it and comments “So you had a good day Sunday too. BUT, if you’re going to do what I think you’re about to do, I think you’re not going to have such a great night tonight.” Punk tells Kane to take it easy and then informs Kane that he is a bit jealous. Punk states that while he was winning the MITB Ladder Match, Kane won himself a championship…his championship. Punk says that he doesn’t mind cashing in the title at anytime, which includes tonight.

Chavo Guerrero’s music now hits and he tells both men in the ring to stop all the talking because no one is going to get a title match before Chavo does. He then looks at Kane from the stage area and tells Kane that his victory was nothing but a fluke. Kane rhetorically replies “a Fluke?” Kane says 8 seconds is not a fluke and Punk reinforces the comment by saying that it must be a record. He tells Chavo to look on the bright side which is that Chavo lost the belt in record fashion by having the shortest match in WrestleMania history. Chavo tries backing himself up by saying that he had to do what no other man had to do for Sunday and that was that he had to prepare for 24 different opponents and that next time, he will be ready. In the mean time, Chavo says he got a match okayed from GM Estrada and will feature Punk teaming up with Kane and taking on Chavo and his partner, Shelton Benjamin.

Shelton Benjamin comes out and stands with Chavo on the stage area. He asks Punk if he feels lucky, because the only reason Punk won the match was because Benjamin had fallen 20 feet from the middle of the ring and crashing through a ladder. He says that tonight, he will show Punk why he is indeed the “Gold Standard” of ECW. Punk responds by calling Benjamin “Goldilocks” and says that Benjamin can call himself whatever nickname he wishes, but the one nickname he cannot call himself is “Mr. Money in the Bank!”

(Segment Rating: 5/5. An excellent way to start off the first ECW after WrestleMania. It’s good to hear Kane on the mic again though it can be disturbing. It fits well on Sci-Fi! Ha! Anyway, all 4 competitors are finally get a great chance to become a star on the brand which is what it really needs…more star power!)

We get a WrestleMania recap video.

Stevie Richards makes his way down to the ring and his opponent is Mike Knox.

Match 1: Stevie Richards v. Mike Knox
Match starts off with a Stevie headlock, but Knox corners Richards and stuns him with several shoulder strikes. Richards somehow fights back and connects with an enzigiri that sends Knox to the outside. Richard is on the apron and leaps on Knox, but Knox elbows Richards right on the jaw just as he comes down. Knox throws Richards back in the ring and proceeds to hit a series of back clubs. Knox shows off his strength by hitting a long vertical suplex and planting Richards in the middle of the ring. Knox covers, but only a 2 count. Richards slaps the chest of Knox twice, but to no avail. Knox just grabs Richards and applies a bearhug. Richards gets loose, but Knox locks it in again, but even tighter this time. Knox slams Richards down and goes up top in a failed attempt to hit a leg drop. Richards now builds momentum by hitting an atomic drop and several ground kicks all over Knox’s body. Knox pushes Richards into a corner and charges at him, but Richards puts out his feet…but wait! Knox grabs his feet and lifts Richards up and hits a powerful backbreaker. Knox picks up the dead weight of Richards and hits the Corkscrew Faceplant to get the win. (Rating: 3/5. An entertaining match during the duration of the contest. One can tell that Knox is slowly coming over with the crowd.)

We are shown clips from the 2008 Hall of Fame Ceremony.

On April 5, 2009, Houston, Texas will be the home of the grandest spectacle of them all as they host WrestleMania 25: The Silver Anniversary! (This is in my hometown. I will definitely get tickets to see the show live!)

Tazz is in the ring with Colin Delaney. Delaney says that he wishes to have a match at next year’s WrestleMania because of his hard work. GM Estrada comes down and says that he has some good news for the rookie. He says he is glad to see Delaney’s work and offers him his first ever WWE Contract. Delaney is over-excited and jumps around the ring. Estrada then informs him that he has just been fooled on April Fools Day! Delaney is strongly disappointed. Estrada states that if Delaney really wants the contract, he has to defeat his opponent tonight…The Big Show.

Match 2: Colin Delaney v. The Big Show
Bell rings and Delaney is afraid to look up. He tries walking away, but Big Show stands in his way. Delaney turns around and tries to leave, but Show grabs onto his shoulders and hits the Showstopper (Inverted facelock slam) for the quick win.

(Segment/Match Rating: 3.5/5. Overall I thought this as more of a segment. I thought it was funny how GM Estrada played Delaney and receiving heat for it.)

Chavo Guerrero makes his way down to the ring and he is followed by Benjamin, Punk and the new ECW Champion, Kane as we are set for our main event!

Main Event: Chavo Guerrero & Shelton Benjamin v. CM Punk & Kane
Just as the bell rings, Punk locks Shelton up and appears to be in control. Punk proceeds to snap suplex the self proclaimed “Gold Standard.” In a matter of seconds, Punk tags in Kane and he uppercuts Benjamin. Kane follows this with a snapmare and eventually a running dropkick. Kane lifts Benjamin to his feet and sends him to the ropes, but this time Benjamin dropkicks Kane’s knee and tags in Chavo. Chavo begins to work on Kane in the corner as he delivers multiple punches. This however doesn’t work for long as Kane grabs Chavo by the throat and tosses him to the turnbuckle. Kane charges at Chavo, but Chavo dodges it and immediately tags back in Benjamin. After about a minute of back and forth action, Kane tosses Benjamin to the outside. Chavo tries attacking Kane from behind, but he is tossed out onto the apron. Punk kicks Chavo on the head as the heels are knocked outside of the ring.

If you have missed it, be sure to watch the WrestleMania encore presentation.

Back, we see Kane deliver an elbow drop to Benjamin for a 2 count. Punk is tagged in and he dropkicks Benjamin right on the noggin. Benjamin plays possum momentarily and kicks the chest of Punk and follows it by a clothesline. Chavo tagged in and he uppercuts Punk. Chavo runs to the ropes, but is countered into a tilt-a-whirl slam. 2 count only. As Punk lifts Chavo up, Chavo connects with a jaw breaker and the two fight it out in the corner. After some time, Punk has Chavo in position of the GTS, but Chavo holds onto the ropes, and Benjamin intervenes by side kicking Punk in the jaw. Chavo then hits a slingshot knee drop and applies a reverse STF. “Chavo Sucks!” chants emerge from the crowd. Chavo continues to apply pressure by switching to a surfboard life maneuver. Chavo releases and tags in Benjamin, but Punk somehow locks in a quick small package for the two count. Chavo is back in and applies an arm lock. After a more minutes, Punk finds a way to counter the 3 amigos and tags in Kane. The Big Red Machine sends both Chavo and Benjamin the corner and hits multiple uppercuts and clotheslines. Kane then signals for the chokeslam and grabs Benjamin. Chavo tries to help, but is big booted in the face. Benjamin capitalizes off the distraction with a big boot of his to Kane, but Kane immediately retaliates with a thunderous big boot of his own, knocking Benjamin down. Kane goes up top for his signature clothesline, but Chavo splits Kane’s leg on the top rope. Punk blind tags Kane and hits a flying clothesline to Benjamin. Afterwards, Punk hits the GTS on Benjamin and this one is over. (Rating: 4/5. Very good main event! This match contained just about everything a classic tag team match could contain. Congratulations to all 4 men!)
