    ECW on Sci-Fi
    Tuesdays 10/9 CT

Charlottesville, Va. : John Paul Jones Arena

Good Evening to all! First off, I would like to congratulate the WWE for making progress and enhancing their broadcasts to HD. It is indeed a milestone in the wrestling sports and entertainment industry.

ECW begins with a recap showing just how Chavo beat CM Punk with the hude assist from Edge to become number 1 contender for the ECW Championship.

A new video package starts and we are officially apart of history! Tonight ECW is indeed brought to you in HD! Tazz & Styles gives us the background of tonights matches including the ECW championship match, the best body contest, and the debut of Jamaca’s first WWE superstar, Kofi Kingston.

Stage is similar to last nights RAW and might I add it is indeed fitting for HD!

Tony Chimmel is shown in the ring and he lets everyone know that our first match of the night is a Royal Rumble preview like match with 5 superstars.

Massive fireworks go off and out comes Kane who recieves a huge ovation. He is followed by Miz, Morrison, Dreamer, and Shelton Benjamin.

Match 1: Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
Match starts with Miz & Morrison double teaming Kane in one corner while Dreamer and Benjamin go at it on the other side of the ring. Some nice moves are demonstrated by all four competitors. After a few minutes, Miz, Morrison and Benjamin are knocked down in the ring as Kane and Dreamer stare each other down. Dreamer strikes with an uppercut, but his momentum is short-lived as Kane dominates him with clotheslines and eventually tosses him out of the match via a Chokeslam. At that point, Morrison, Miz and Benjamin triple team the big red machine. Benjamin hits is inverted bulldog on Kane and then Miz & Morrison double team on trying to eliminate Benjamin. They toss Benjamin over the rope but he “skins the cat” and hangs on in that position for quite some time. Meanwhile, Kane gets up and attempts to double chokeslam Miz & Morrison. Instead he walks over near the ropes, and eliminates the tag team champions. As this occurs, Benjamin, who is still in the “skinning the cat” position, wraps his legs around Kane and pulls him forward, thus eliminating a surprised Kane. (Rating: 3/5. A very quick paced match by all 5 men. It was interesting to see Benjamin pick up the win here. Nice opening bout.)

Post-Match: Benjamin gets on the mic and says this victory was only the beginning of his success on ECW.

We cut backstage and see Kelly making her way down to the ring in preparation for the Diva Body Contest.

    -Commercial-

Coach lays out the rules that each diva has 30 seconds to show there stuff. Lena and Layla lose to Kelly and afterwards they put a mini beat-down on her before they leave the ring. Afterwards, Kelly’s music is played and she taunts to the crowd. (HD is awsome!)

Backstage, CM Punk is taping up his wristbands in prepartion for his match.

Back, we see a local contender in the ring (sorry didn’t catch his name). His opponent is none other than Kofi Kingston.

Match 2: Local Contender v. Kofi Kingston
Kingston gets a decent reaction from the audience as the match is underway. LC gets a headlock, but only for it to be reveresed and immediately taken down with an amazing leg sweep by Kingston. Moments later, Kingston launches himself onto LC in the turnbuckle area and hits a botched judo flip. LC eventually tries fighting back but to no avail and Kingston hits a double leg drop and plays with the crowd. About a minute later, Kingston signals for his signature move and hits it for the victory. It’s kind of like a spinning roundhouse kick to the face. (Rating: 3/5. This Kingston guy is good. You can tell he has some great knowedge of wrestling and just because he is a rookie does not mean that he will cause the show to lose ratings. As a matter of fact, he received a good ovation from the crowd at the end of the match.)

Backstage we see Chavo in the back and is he welcomed by Edge as they talk strategy.

    -Commercial-

Tazz is in the ring with Colin Delaney. Tazz shows us a few clips of Delaney being massacred over the past few weeks and eventually introduces Khali as Delaney’s opponent.

Match 3: Colin Delaney v. Great Khali
Before the bell rings, Khali brain chops the poor guy and picks him up and hits a choke bomb. Khali vice grip and this one is already over. (2/5. For a quick match, this was actually amusing to watch. Delaney just ‘died’ out there and for the first time I heard fans actually cheering Khali on. Wow!)

Backstage we see Edge & Chavo talking some more strategy, but this time they are welcomed by Vickie Guerrero. Edge states after tonight, their new formed ‘family’ will own two shows as they will each hold their respective brands top prize. Vickie adds that a happy family that co-exists is a winning family and the three smile together.

Back we see what is actually a lengthy 3-5 or so minute video highlighting classic Royal Rumble moments, suprises, and history. The video also mentions lucky numbers and what some of those numbers have meant in the Royal Rumble match.

We see CM Punk & Chavo Guerrero making their way down to the ring.

    -Commercial-

Tony Chimmel is in the ring and says that he has just been informed that the ECW Championship bout is now going to be a No Disqualification Match.

Edge makes his way down to the ring and does and sits alongside Styles & Taz to do commentary.

Chavo then makes his way down to the ring looking confident. Punk follows to a huge ovation and immediately turns and gives Edge, who is doing commentary, a glance in disgust.

Match 4: Chavo Guerrero v. CM Punk (ECW CHAMPIONSHIP)
As soon as the bell rings, Punk corners and strikes with several knee blows to Chavo’s abdomen. Punk proceeds to hit a back club and then picks Chavo, but knocks him back down with an uppercut. At this point, Punk attempts to take off the cushion on the turnbuckle, but Chavo snapmares Punk, and he takes it off revealing the steel underneath. Chavo uppercuts Punk and tries to smash Punk’s head into the exposed steel, but Punk counters out of it and nails Chavo with a few punches. Punk then tosses Chavo to the outside, but Chavo hangs on the apron. Punk high roundhouse kicks Chavo and he falls to the outside mats below. The two exchange a few blows and Chavo eventually front suplex’s Punk right onto the steel steps! Back in the ring, Chavo attempts to hit the frog splash, but Punk moves and Chavo immediately gets up and charges at Punk, but Punk flapjacks Chavo right onto the exposed steel turnbuckle. Chavo is on spagetti legs, and Punk hits the GTS. But wait…Edge enters the ring and delivers a devastating spear to Punk and exits the ring. Chavo crawls towards Punk and covers by putting an arm across Punks chest. Referee counts…1...2…3! NEW ECW World Champion – Chavo Guerrero.
(Rating: 4/5. Definitely this match was better than the three previous encounters between the two superstars. Kind of a predictable finish with the No DQ stipulation being announced at the last minute, but this match contained some solid fast action. Chavo Guerrero continues to get better every week.)

Post-Match: Chavo is emotional that he has finally captured the top prize. Edge hands him the ECW Championship and the two hug. Soon, Vickie Guerrero in her wheel chair makes her way down to the ring with Ryder & Hawkins as they congratulate and celebrate with Chavo. All raise their hands up as the crowd reacts with boos to end the show.

    Quick Match Results:
-Shelton Benjamin wins a 5 Man Royal Rumble Match.
-Kofi Kingston wins his debut match.
    -Great Khali defeats Colin Delaney
-Chavo Guerrero defeats CM Punk in a No DQ match to become the new ECW Champion.

Highlight of the Night: Chavo Guerrero v. CM Punk (ECW CHAMPIONSHIP)

The first ECW broadcasted in HD was terrific and well done. I personally thought todays show was like a landscape change for the brand as Chavo is the new champion. This storyline is interesting and I am anxious to see what bad blood is left between Edge/Punk/Chavo. Good Night! 6.5/10
