I just got back from another Smackdown event in
Boston. I must say that tonight's ECW was miles
better than the crapola of a Smackdown we had.
Dark Match
Kofi Kingston vs. Steve Corino
Nice pop for Kingston. Seemed most of the crowd
didn't know who Corino was. Some quick back and forth
action on this one. Kingston gets the win after what
can be described as a taunting leg drop where both
legs go across the chest.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
Smackdown Taping
We get the intro and the pyro so here we go.
Smackdown opens with Edge on the entrance way asking
for everyone's attention. He says that Vickie
Guerrero is now back and ready to run Smackdown.
Teddy Long wheels out Vickie in a wheelchair. Edge
wants Vickie to tell everyone how she feels. She says
she is emotionally distraught and physically hurt, but
she will resume her duties tonight. She says that all
three participants in the triple threat match at
Armeggeddon will see action tonight and Edge is next.
Edge tells her he's not warmed up and doesn't even
know his opponent. Vickie says her decision is final
and orders Teddy Long to go get Edge's entrance music
started up. Teddy walks to the back and Edge's
entrance music starts up before he comes back out.
Edge gets to the ring to get ready. His opponent
is...Funaki.
Edge vs. Funaki
Pretty much what you would expect in a match like
this. Funaki gets in some minimal offense. Edge
takes the win with a spear.
Winner: Edge
Edge walks back up the aisle to Vickie. She says that
tonight Batista faces Kane in a Last Man Standing
match and Undertaker will face both Mark Henry and Big
Daddy V in a handicap match. She orders Teddy to
wheel her backstage.
Michelle McCool and Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria w/Kenny
Dykstra and Layla
A short divas match with only a couple tags. After
McCool gets the hot tag, Kenny climbs up on the apron
to distract her. Chuck Palumbo rides down in the
motorcycle and chases him out of there. McCool gets
distract and is rolled up by Victoria for the win.
Winners: Victoria and Layla
MVP comes out to do color commentary.
Rey Mysterio vs. Kenny Dykstra
Crowd was hot for Rey. Pretty much what you'd expect
from these two. Rey hits that 619 and Droppin The
Dime for the win.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
MVP gets in the ring to taunt Rey with the title. He
says Rey use to know what it's like to be champ and
even for him to hold the belt. MVP says may the best
man win and wished him good luck. MVP extends his
hand and Rey just brushes it off. Meanwhile Kenny is
almost to his feet. MVP points to him to let Rey know
he's up. Rey turns around towards Kenny while MVP
clocks him from behind with the US title.
Chuck Palumbo and Michelle McCool are backstage
talking about what just happened. Michelle told him
to just calm down and she has to honor the deal she
made with Jamie Noble. Chuck punches a hole through
the wall.
Last Man Standing Match
Batista vs. Kane
This match was excruciating to watch and spent more
time on the outside of the ring than the inside. Lots
of false finishes including Batista being knocked out
to the crowd. The end saw Kane grabbing a monitor
from the announce table and smashing Batista, but he
still gets up at 9. Kane gets frustrated and grabs a
set of steel steps and positions it in front of the
table. Kane sets up for a chokeslam on top of the
steps through the table, but Batista battles out and
hits a powerbomb that doesn't break the table. Edge
jumps out from the crowd and spears Batista. Both men
are down. Batista starts to get up at 8 and Edge
attempts to spear him again, but gets backdropped.
Kane is counted out.
Winner: Batista
Edge then attacks Batista from behind with a chair and
lays him out before leaving.
Backstage Edge asks Vickie if she wants anything and
assures her that she's doing a good job. Vickie wants
2 aspirin and coffee. Edge sends Teddy Long out of
the office to get them while he lip locks with Vickie.
Festus w/Jesse vs. The Miz w/John Morrison
An okay filler match here. Festus takes the win after
he hits a fireman's carry into a spinning pancake
move.
Winner: Festus
Teddy Long makes his way to the ring to announce that
The Great Khali will face Hornswoggle tonight.
Hornswoggle makes his way to the ring all sad. Khali
makes his entrace with Ranjin Singh. Finlay makes his
way out to the ring to attack Khali with the
shalleleigh. THe referee takes it away and Finlay
continues to beat on Khali. Singh grabs Hornswoggle
and threatens to hurt him unless Finlay stops the
beating. Finlay turns around and decks Singh. Khali
gets back up to deliver a brain chop and a choke bomb.
Michelle and Kelly are talking backstage about having
to go out on a date with Jamie Noble. They walk into
the locker room and there are flowers, presents, and
balloons. Jamie Noble enters and says they're all for
her to get ready for the date. Michelle actually
thinks it's very sweet. Noble hands her a box with a
dress for the date and assures her it'll be special.
Handicap match
Undertaker vs. Big Daddy V w/Matt Striker and Mark Henry
This was another painful match to watch. The end saw
Taker delivering a chokeslam to Mark Henry for the
win.
Winner: Undertaker
Post match, Mark Henry and Big Daddy V continue the
beat down leaving Edge to come out to pick up the
scraps. Edge continually taunts Taker who struggles
to get back up. Edge leaves.
This is likely where Smackdown cuts off the on air
show.
After the ECW main event, Edge came out and attacked
Batista to start up the dark match main event.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Batista (c) vs. Edge
This last about 2 minutes. Batista spears Edge and he
hightails it causing a count out.
Winner by count out and still champion: Batista
The match that saved the entire show was the tag match
on ECW involving Miz/Morrison vs. Yang/Moore. Double
duty tonight was pulled by Kane, Miz, Kelly Kelly,
Victoria, Layla, and Edge. Batista technically pulled
triple duty.
