SmackDown Report - 26th October 2007

We start with the usual smackdown opening video and pyro goes off as Michael Cole and JBL welcome is to smackdown. MVP, Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Finlay are already in the ring for the V.I.P lounge.

The V.I.P lounge segment is basically just the four men interrupting each other and talking about their respective matches at Cyber Sunday. This is also a set up for their tag team match later on tonight. Rey Mysterio attacks Finlay and both men brawl but Rey Mysterio gets the upper hand.

MATCH 1:
Kane Vs Mark Henry
Winner: Kane via pin
Match was very short and pretty bad. Kane wins with the chokeslam. This match shows how bad the Smackdown booking is at the moment. Mark Henry has gone from main eventing Unforgiven to not being used for a month to jobbing to Kane all in the space of about a month.
Rating: 3/10

Mick Foley promo then airs.

We then have the Diva search segment. Very similar to the segment on RAW and it was very bad, both the divas were horrible on the mic and I imagine there even worse in the ring.

MATCH 2:
MVP and Matt Hardy Vs Finlay and Rey Mysterio
Winners: MVP and Matt Hardy via pin
Good, long match. Glad to see we are having matches like this again on Smackdown. All four men worked hard to produce a good match. I have a lot of respect for Hardy after this match, blood was literally spraying out of his head but he didn’t slow down at all and finished the match. MVP pins Mysterio after a playmaker and after Finlay hit Mysterio with Finlay’s club.
Rating: 8/10

They then show the same recap of the Batista/Undertaker feud we saw last week.

Backstage Jaime Noble manages to piss off Vickie Guerrero once again. She puts him in a match with Batista next.

MATCH 3:
Batista Vs Jaime Noble
Winner: Batista via pin
One minute squash. Batista pins Noble after a Batista bomb. Why the hell has Jaime Noble become the new Smackdown jobber? I’m getting tired of this every week.
Rating: 1/10

Stone Cold promo then airs.

MATCH 4:
The Miz Vs John Morrison Vs Big Daddy V
Winner: Big Daddy V via pin
Wasn’t too terrible but was nearly a squash. This match was pretty unimportant as it was an ECW only match. Big Daddy V pins the Miz after an elbow drop.
Rating: 3/10

They then show the RAW recap.
MATCH 5:
Jesse and Festus Vs Two Local Wrestlers
Winners: Jesse and Festus via pin
One minute squash. Jesse and Festus get the ring after Jesse got the pin after a top rope aided splash.
Rating: 1/10

Michael Cole and JBL then run down the Cyber Sunday card.

JBL gets in the ring and tells everyone to vote for him. He then shows a video telling the fans why people should vote for him and why they shouldn’t vote for Mick Foley or Stone Cold. He then gets people to hand shirts to the fans with “vote for JBL” written on them and makes Michael Cole and Justin Roberts wear one. The Undertaker comes down to the ring and JBL tries to make him wear the shirt but Undertaker choke slams him right on the mic (ouch!). Batista then runs down to the ring and spears the Undertaker as Smackdown goes off air.


Overall rating: 4/10
If it wasn’t for MVP/Hardy Vs Finlay/Mysterio and the JBL/Undertaker segment this show would have bombed big time. What happened to the quality wrestling we always used to see on smackdown? Hopefully we see a better smackdown next week.
