SmackDown Report - 19th October 2007
Submitted by Sam Wiltshire on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 4:21 PM EST
Smackdown opens with the usual pyro display. We then go to a video recap of how the Undertaker became the new number one contender last week.
MATCH 1:
The Great Khali Vs Kane
Winner: Kane via DQ at 4 minutes
Match was better than there Wrestle mania 23 match but was still poor.
Rating: 3/10
After the match Kane hits the Great Khali in the head with the ring bell, Big Daddy V then attacks Kane after the match.
After the break Matt Striker says that Smackdown will see Big Daddy V on a regular basis and Kane made a big mistake by interfering in Big Daddy V’s business. I guess this is because of the Smackdown/ECW talent merge.
MATCH 2:
Chuck Palumbo Vs Chris Masters
Winner: Chris Masters via pin at 4 minutes
Match was decent for its length. I would like to see these 2 in a longer match as they are both good wrestlers and both have interesting gimmicks, these should be the top big men of Smackdown not the Great Khali or Mark Henry. The Victoria interference was kind of pointless though as she is supposed to be Dykstra’s manager.
Rating: 6/10
We then go to a RAW recap.
MVP and Matt Hardy are talking backstage, Hardy says he doesn’t want MVP at him with ringside in his match tonight as he wants to keep his battles to himself.
MATCH 3:
Matt Hardy Vs Finlay
Winner: Matt Hardy via pin at 6 minutes
This was a good match but should have been longer. These two have had much better matches earlier on in the year.
Rating: 6/10
The Major Brothers are in action next.
MATCH 4:
Drew Macintyre Vs Brian Major
Winner: Drew Macintyre via pin at 4 minutes
Similar to last week’s match, decent but nothing special. Drew has a good finisher though.
Rating: 6/10
We then go to a recap of the Undertaker/Batista feud since Wrestle Mania.
JBL is in the ring next to interview Batista. The two exchange words and when JBL calls Batista a coward he gets speared.
Diva Search video airs next.
MATCH 5:
Deuce and Domino Vs Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore
Winners: Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore via pin at 3 minutes
Decent fast paced match for how long it lasted. Nothing really to note here.
Rating: 6/10
Backstage Jaime Noble attempted to apologise to Vickie Guerrero about last weeks but made the situation worse. Vickie Guerrero tells him he’s up against the Undertaker next.
MATCH 6:
The Undertaker Vs Jaime Noble
Winner: The Undertaker via pin at 1 minute
Two words: squash city. I guess Jaime Noble has become the next Smackdown jobber, what the hell happened to Funaki, I though that was his job.
Rating: 1/10
Michael Cole and JBL then run through the Cyber Sunday card. I have to say I am very impressed with the Cyber Sunday card.
MATCH 7:
MVP Vs Rey Mysterio
Winner: No Contest at 6 minutes
Excluding the bad ending this was an entertaining main event which just needed more time. The ending made sense as it carries on the Rey Mysterio/Finlay feud and MVP/Hardy feud until Cyber Sunday.
Rating: 7/10
Overall Rating: 6/10
This was a decent Smackdown but nothing really stood out. It was entertaining all the way through and the wrestling we saw was mostly decent. However the matches were all far too short and the bad ending to an otherwise good main event defiantly took away from the show. There was only one half decent segment. Smackdown would defiantly benefit from fewer matches.
