SmackDown Report - 10-12-2007
Submitted by Sam Wiltshire on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 5:00 PM EST
The show starts off with a recap of the Punjabi Prison match from No Mercy. The Smackdown credits then roll followed by the pyrotechnics.
MATCH 1:
Chuck Palumbo Vs Chris Masters
Winner: Chuck Palumbo via roll-up
Good match up. These two seemed to work together and Chris Masters seems to move a lot better in the ring after he lost some muscle mass.
Rating: 6/10
After the match Masters got Palumbo in the masterlock and Palumbo was unable to break it and passed out.
A Big Daddy V promo then airs (the same one which aired last week). I guess the only thing we can do is pray that he doesn’t come to Smackdown.
MATCH 2:
Jesse and Festus Vs Two Local Guys
Winners: Jesse and Festus via an aided top rope frog splash
Decent match, far too short and one sided to be anything memorable. Jesse and Festus are good in the ring and Festus is a breath of fresh air in the WWE as for a man his size he is very entertaining to watch (I can’t say the same for Khali, Snitsky, Mark Henry or Big Daddy V).
Rating: 4/10
Jaime Noble tells Deuce and Domino that Jimmy Wang Yang has been dissing Cherry. He whispers it in Deuce’s ear and Deuce is furious, we don’t hear what the diss was but I guess it was something unpleasant. Deuce and Domino then drag Jaime Noble to Vickie Guerrero’s office to sort it out.
MATCH 3:
Brett Major Vs Drew Mcintyre
Winner: Drew Mcintyre via roll-up
This was a good match for the time it got, although it was far too short. Drew Mcintyre seems to be a good wrestler and Brett Major looked good as well. I hope Drew gets pushed. Drew was accompanied to the ring by Dave Taylor.
Rating: 6/10
A Diva Search video airs – I’m not going to bother with this, nobody cares, especially me.
MATCH 4:
MVP and Matt Hardy Vs Kane and The Undertaker
Winners: Kane and The Undertaker via a tombstone pile driver
Good match got enough time to be a good tag match. This match showed why these four men are some of the best on Smackdown, I would love to see these two teams feud.
Rating: 8/10
The Raw Rebound airs.
We then go to an outside shot of the arena and then Michael Cole tells us that we have a new backstage worker called Anastasia. She interviews Rey Mysterio, Rey basically says he’s pissed off about what Finlay did at No Mercy and is going to make him pay tonight.
We are then shows Teddy Long’s heart attack from three weeks ago. Jaime Noble is inside Vickie’s office and he accuses her taking advantage of Teddy Long’s heart attack to be General Manager. He then tells her that he caused trouble between Deuce and Jimmy Wang Yang. She tells him he has a match with the Great Khali up next.
MATCH 5:
The Great Khali Vs Jaime Noble
Winner: The Great Khali via the claw (the referee stopped the match)
Complete squash, who the hell did Jaime Noble piss off backstage to get this (in real life obviously). Nothing at all noteworthy in this match.
Rating: 1/10
A Cyber Sunday promo then airs.
MATCH 6:
Jimmy Wang Yang Vs Deuce
Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang via a moonsault
Bad, short match.
Rating: 2/10
Deuce and Domino beat up Jimmy Wang Yang after the match.
Batista makes his way to the ring and is the special guest commentator for the upcoming match.
MATCH 7: NUMBER ONE CONTEDER MATCH
Winner faces Batista at Cyber Sunday: Finlay Vs Rey Mysterio
Winner: No Contest after both men shoved the referee down
Good match, towards the end it got messy but hopefully it means this feud will continue. It didn’t really get enough time to reach it’s full potential but got enough time to be a good Smackdown main event
Rating: 7/10
Finlay goes to hit Rey Mysterio with his club after the match but a gong sounds and the lights go off. When the lights come back on Finlay and Rey Mysterio are laid out in the ring and the Undertaker is standing in the ring. The Undertaker motions for the World Heavyweight Championship and both men exchange looks as Smackdown goes off the air.
Overall Rating: 6/10
This was a good episode of Smackdown, the main problem was that there were 7 matches so most of the matches were far too short. The wrestling we saw was good and I really hope the end segment was a sign that we are going to see Batista Vs The Undertaker at Cyber Sunday as I would love to see that feud continue.
