WWE Smackdown Results 10-5-07

    SmackDown Report – 5/10/2007

    Show starts with a recap of Vince McMahon’s speech on ECW informing the fans that John Cena is out of action for up to a year and will not participate at No Mercy. He says there will be a WWE Championship match at No Mercy. The SmackDown opening video starts.

    Batista makes his way to the ring (a video of the Punjabi Prison is shown during this time) and talks about the rules of the match. Khali appears on the titantron with his translator. Batista says that Khali has no idea what happens when you lock an animal in a cage.

    MATCH 1:
    Chuck Paulumbo Vs Ace Steele
    Winner: Chuck Palumbo via pin at 2 minutes
    Both men looked decent for the very short amount of time they got. This was really just a way to get Chuck on the card.
    Rating: 3/10

    Chris Masters then attacks Chuck after the match. A Big Daddy V promo then airs. After the commercial break they show highlights from last week of Vickie Guerrero stripping Hornswoggle of the Cruiserweight title.


    MATCH 2:
    Jamie Noble Vs Jimmy Wang Yang
    Winner: Jaime Noble via pin at 7 minutes
    This was a very good match which got a decent amount of time. The first half of the match consisted of some great mat wrestling and the second half allowed some aerial moves.
    Rating: 8/10


    MATCH 3:
    WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: MVP and Matt Hardy Vs Deuce and Domino
    Winner: MVP and Matt Hardy via pin at 15 minutes of television time
    This was a good tag team match, although Deuce and Domino controlled the match for fat too long which took away some of the match for me. I really like the MVP/Hardy feud and hopefully it’s leading somewhere good. Anyway, this was a good tag team match but nothing really stood out.
    Rating: 8/10
    As MVP and Hardy walk back to the locker room, Kane makes his entrance and MVP runs off.

    MATCH 4:
    Kane Vs Kenny Dykstra
    Winner: Kane via pin at 5 minutes of television time
    Rating: 5/10
    Nothing much to say here, just a short basic television match which was there really just to get Kane on the card. It was okay for what it was but I really didn’t care about it. They could have given this time to Noble/Wang Yang.

    After the commercial break we got to a shot of the arena and then show Teddy Long’s heart attack from 2 weeks ago. Torrie Wilson and Vickie Guerrero are shown talking backstage, MVP and Matt Hardy burst in and argue about Vickie’s recent decisions. She then makes a match – MVP and Matt Hardy Vs Kane and The Undertaker. I assume this match is for next week, no mention if it’s for the tag team titles. I’m looking forward to this match.

    Highlights are then shown of the John Cena/Kennedy match up from RAW and show Cena’s injury. Note – I dislike John Cena but it sucks how he was injured, get well soon John!

    MATCH 5:
    Jesse and Festus Vs Two Local Guys (can’t remember there names)
    Winners: Jesse and Festus via pin at 4 minutes
    Rating: 5/10
    Not bad at all. Match was far too short to be anything great but the match was surprisingly back and forth, the two local guys got in a fair amount of offence in on Jesse. Jesse is a good cruiserweight style wrestler and Festus looks to be a decent big man.

    Michael Cole and JBL then run through the No Mercy card. I have to say I won’t be ordering this pay per view, I’m not impressed with the card at all.

    MATCH 6:
    Rey Mysterio Vs The Great Khali
    Fought to a no-contest at 6 minutes
    Rating: 2/10
    Terrible match but at least it was fairly short. Typical Khali match.
    Finlay does a run in to cause the bell to ring. Finlay and Khali then beat up Rey Mysterio until Batista makes the save. Batista hits Khali in the back with a steel chair and Khali retreats to the locker room as SmackDown goes off air.


    Overall Rating: 7/10
    I was fairly impressed with tonight’s SmackDown, lots of good wrestling and some decent segments. The Noble/Wang Yang match and the tag team title match ups were both very good and the MVP/Matt Hardy press up competition was fairly entertaining as well.
